Good Afternoon everyone. I have just signed up to the forum because I am getting dangerously close to eating a box of muesli and it looks like you're all climbing the same mountain.
This is my day 5 of INDUCTION and I am really going to do it this time - despite the muesli based hallucinations. I have been on every diet (nearly) around. My favourite is the GI with all that lovely brown rice, porridge and wholemeal bread - which I mustn't think about now and on which I have never lost an ounce. My problem is that I hate sugar and junk food: I only eat fresh food, I exercise vigourously (cycle 15 miles most days - go to gym at least 3X a week), I walk everywhere and I have a HIGHER than average metabolism and yet I am obese (BMI 31) and I look like a dedicated doughnut eater with v. big tummy.
So, last week, when I was contemplating a 85 mile bike ride as a punishment for my fatness, I realised something. This isn't working. The government says 'eat 5 fruit & veg a day' - I eat 10, the PCT says walk and cycle - don't drive - I do I do, the magazines say 'have you tried home cooking instead of takeways' (erm yes!) and I have discovered that you can do all of these things and still be a wobbler.
So, despite the low fat high fibre mantra that shapes my thinking I am going to give my all to the Atkins. I am on day 6. I have already lost 9lb (which is an astounding miracle). I think the food is OK as you can have salad and avocados - and I am hopeful!
I would love to hear how you are all getting on and any tips for mashed potato and muesli cravings gratefully recieved.
Must dash now and have my afternoon olive
