  • Howdy howdy everyone!

I am Heather, and I will be beginning induction in the morning (11/16). I have spent the last few weeks reading and preparing, so I am ready to GO now. Back in 2003 I lost 40lbs on Atkins (190 down to 150). My doc made me quit while pregnant. After loosing twins, I went into depression and my weight didn't matter to me anymore. Well, I didn't gain a lot, just about 20lbs before I was pregnant again. That pregnancy went well until our son was stillborn in 2005. Even though I didn't feel "depressed", I still lost all interest in myself and all my focus was on my living children and their lives. I have certainly put myself on a back burner. I had gotten up to 221, but have lost about 6-7 lbs doing weight watchers (has taken 3 months and that is just not fast enough for me).

During this time I have also been diagnosed with MS. The research I have been doing suggests that those who follow a low carb diet often have a reversal of MS symptoms.

So, my reasons for doing Atkins are many, but it all adds up to better health and better looks.

I love meats and eggs, some cheese and veggies. I also have a massive sweet tooth, but I know after a few days that will be GONE. I remember clearly how after about a week into induction the first time, I didn't even want anything. One day I tried a sip of a non-diet drink and gagged from the sweetness. Not sure how I converted back again, but I did.

Anyhow, I am excited to be here and get to know you all.

    Re: Howdy howdy everyone!

Hi Ellie, this site uses the 2002 Atkins book. It will work again but probably slower now that you are a little older and your body has changed a bit. Don't expect 20 pounds a well. LOL But it should do better for you than WW. Wishing you success and help with the MS.

Do visit the Atkins Phases forums and read the permanent stickies in Induction forums. There is invaluable information there.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Hi and welcome back to Atkins --

Regardless of what you did before, or what people are doing now, your body is different than anyone so it’s best not to compare - just follow the plan the way it's written. Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support. There are so many threads with specific information and help, look around to find what interests you.

As Jill said, the 2002 DANDR book is the one we use - hopefully you have it and have read it. Remember: 1) Get enough pure water in daily (64oz minimum is recommended), 2) exercise and 3) take a non-iron multivitamin.

Check this page for answers to a lot of your questions: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. Make sure you are eating enough vegetables – Atkins isn’t just meat and cheese – vegetables are a huge part of your daily menu and is where most of your carbs should be coming from.

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!
