  • Lets get this party started!

    I am starting Atkins TODAY!!!
    I am 5'1" and 134 lbs. I was 115lbs before I had my baby. I want to get back down to that!

    STARTING: 134 LBS
    GOAL: 115 LBS

    I would like to get to these results by Jan. 1, 2010! I know that is pushing it and not very good to try to loose weight that fast...but a girl can dream, right

    Atkins is not a quick fix. I don't know if you were joking, but you will likely not lose all your 20 extra lbs in 25 (or so) days if you follow Atkins correctly.

      How long since you had your baby?
      So Atkins suggest no breastfeeding and Atkins induction. You may know this already but I am just adding it.
      Also a new mom will have hormone issues for a while yet and weight loss may not be as fast as it used to.

        Welcome to the Atkins Board.

        Glad you found the board and are excited about starting the plan. First of all, Atkins is not a "diet" or a way to loose "a few pounds"...it's a way of eating over a lifetime. Make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal. If you can’t find a copy of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) locally check online at www.half.com or www.amazon.com. Eat only foods listed on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables.         Because you don't have much weight to loose it may not come off quickly -- so as soon as you get through your cheat free 2 week induction move on to OWL (ongoing weight loss) and start adding foods back into your daily life. You'll need time to add foods back so you'll know which foods bother you and which ones you can eat again without problem.

        A few more tips to help get you started: Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins so start now and get off on the right foot. Also, start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/

          I was joking! I know Atkins is not a quick fix. Quick fixes usually have quick problems! I got up to 163 lbs when I gave birth. My boyfriend is a carb junkie so it is really hard sometimes to explain to him why certain carbs are bad. I have the will power to do this. I am actually hoping to lose 10 lbs in a month. I have recently began treatment for hypothyroidism too. My family has horrible obiesity problems. Four of my family members have had gastric bypass surgery. So I understand that this will be my new way of life. I also like the idea of being able to sleep again. It is my understanding that low-carb diets help with insomnia. Before I had my son I did the Slimfast diet for about a year. I had made that a lifestyle which worked but I missed eating. My jaw mucles also became very weak after about a month and I suffered horrible leg cramps every morning when I woke up. When I did that one I had lost about 12 lbs in two weeks. The minute I ate anything in the first two meals of the day I would throw on a few pounds So I had remembered my mom doing this a long time ago and she lost alot! So I am going to do it the right way now! I have always been aware of carbs but I have never lowered them to the phase 1 level. So I am very excited about getting in to a new way of life!

            Again ... this may be setting yourself up for disappointment. This isn't a race.

            And since you don't have much to lose, your rate of lose will likely be slower.

              The meds you are on for hypothyroidism may slow your weight loss some. There is a forum for it here also: Thyroid - Atkins Diet.

              Make sure you eat enough daily -- keeping your carbs closer to 20 net carbs daily will give you more variety and also makes sure you aren't undereating. Make sure you drink enough pure water daily (64 ounces MINIMUM - more is better). Exercise will also help you loose and both will help keep you regular.

                  They are not reliable. They don't tell you if you are following the plan correctly... nor does a change in color guarantee weight loss.

                      I just weighed myself today and I am 133.3 lbs. Is that normal to loose that much the first day?

                          SO I did not do so good at lunch today My boyfriend came home from an awesome meeting and wanted to celebrate. So we went to a favorite place of ours and I ordered the pork roast. When it camme out it was slimey...ewwwww. So I ate the roll and potatoes that were with it but I did great at breakfast and at dinner. I am going to be strict tomorrow and start my two weeks from there since I had my set back today.
