Call it normal for now, but historically you will come down to a screeching halt between weeks 3 and 5, and then lose at about two pounds a week for awhile.

        Or less.

There's no way to look into the future and say how much someone else will lose per week.

I agree, this WOE is different to everyone for many reasons (age, strictness of following the plan, activity level, metabolism, medications, supplementation, and the list goes on and on.) I was merely trying to temper the OP's statement about this being the "normal rate" for his weight loss and prepare him for the probablilty that 20 lbs every two weeks won't keep going.

              >>i mean why get off it if it is working so well?>>

Because Dr. Atkins didn't intend for us to stay on Induction forever. The 2nd phase is called "Ongoing Weight Loss" for a reason ... the very name implies that's where the weight loss happens.

I've seen so many people stay on Induction (which implies "beginning" or "starting") too long ... then they become afraid to move to OWL ... and they end up giving up.

I've also seen people stay on Induction until they lose their weight ... but they never learned anything ... so the second time they do Atkins (because they regained all the weight), they say "this time" they'll do it right.

Why not follow the plan as Dr. Atkins wrote it the first time?

Re: Hello from Louisiana!! (second attempt)

I have done extended induction several times in the past. I blame extended induction for the reason I fail time and time again to maintain weight loss. Even with extended induction my weight loss comes to a screeching halt in weeks 3 to 5, and resumes at a snail's pace. Moving on the rungs is important for sustainability. I have had months in extended induction where I only lost two pounds for the month. It's just not worth staying there when the result is losing steam and quitting for me. I am against it personally as a way of life.

I would suggest you read Chapters 12 and 13 in DANDR 2002. The info there will help you evaluate your 2-week Induction results and take an informed decision that you think is best for you.

Megs (not2late) summarized the info in Chapter 13 in this FAQ: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-i-go-owl.html

Also, some people's weight loss actually speeds up when they add more nutritious vegetables to their menus in OWL Rung 1.

Oh boy, did I hate the corporate money-making changes I saw on Atkins after Dr. Atkins died. SAD. All of these Atkins (and other low carb) fake foods that Atkins.com said are a-okay are NOT okay. In maintenance or OWL one might find that eating these bars, etc. EVERY NOW AND THEN is okay, but they are junk- and IMO just a substitute for the junk we ate before Atkins. I personally don't have a problem drinking a low carb shake once a day, but that's me. As for sugar alcohols being deducted from net carbs? Bull!! They are absolutely metabolized and do cause a blood sugar spike. The less stomach distress you have when eating sugar alcohols means you are metabolizing more of them than others, but they DO count as carbs. I'm new here and sorry if this is redundant information!!

And V8 is not appropriate for Induction. It contains non-Induction ingredients.

                          This isn't 0 carbs.

Let me help you with the recipe. A can of the hot rotel has 3 net carbs per serving. Each can has 2.5 servings, for a total of 7.5 net carbs. Just puree the rotel, and make up the difference in fluid with chicken stock. You won't even miss the V8.

                              T.Pork rind dish
                              1/4 red bell pepper 2g - I get closer to 5 grams
1 can of v8 juice 0g - Omitted, bad for induction
1 7 oz bag of pork rinds 0g
                              1/4 onion 3g - I get 2.5 grams
1 can hot rotell tomatoes - 7.5 net carbs
8 oz chicken stock -1 gram
total carbs for the entire dish = 16 grams net or 4 per serving.
                              Feeds 4 people.

flavor with salt and pepper if needed.
mix the pork rinds, and broth in a saute pan until pork rinds are soft. Add the rotel and veggies and simmer until onions are clear.

                              review: AWESOME!!

Great recipe, if you really miss the V8, add it when you move up the rungs.

lol I like the saying "If it never had a face, it has a carb." I know some things like organ meats have *some* carb count, but... It's so deceiving when packages say "0 carbs" when clearly they do contain carbs. True, some are negligable, but they can add up. And I so hate the deceptive "0 trans fats" that can legally be put on labels of foods that clearly contain trans fats. UGH. If it has "hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated" in the ingredients, it has TRANS FATS! Another rant over.....
