  • Getting on the bus (for good this time!)

Hi all! I was really glad to find this forum. A little about me - I am 40 years old with a wonderful wife I have been married to for 14 years, and two boys. I own a life and health insurance agency, and am also a professional sax player.

I did the Atkins diet for about 5 months back in 2000 and lost 60 pounds, then I got off the diet and never looked back. I had lost down to 330 pounds at that time, and now I have ballooned up to 489 and just turned 40. I have dieted and dieted for years, but the only diet I was ever able to stay on for more than a couple of weeks was Atkins. When I graduated high school, I was 215 and looking good. I want to get back to that weight!

I have been looking into gastric bypass, but instead, I have joined a gym with a personal trainer three times a week (spent a lot on that) and am going to make this happen. This is my last option before I consider surgery, and that is something I don't want to do unless I have to. I am heading to the grocery store in the morning and Day One begins tomorrow!

I have a blog that I am going to keep along the way (in my signature). I know many of you have used this program successfully and being a part of your community will help me in the area of accountability. My wife and two boys are counting on me and are behind me 100%. They are my biggest motivation.

Thanks for letting me be a part and I hope to make some real friends here along the way! God bless!

    -Keith

Hi and welcome back to Atkins Keith--

Good for you getting back on plan! This is a great place to be and you'll find all the support you want or need. I hope you have the 2002 DANDR (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution) book it's the edition we follow on this site. It sounds like you have your exercise under control -- good for you! Don't forget to take a non-iron vitamin and drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure. Check Linda's recipe site - it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over --
    http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

Since you've done Atkins before you may enjoy the STAC (second time around club), they have a daily sign in that people enjoy Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet. Also many people start a journal to keep track of themselves. It’s also a great place to meet new people http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/journal-chats/.

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck.

          Welcome, Keith!

Now you know that, in order to be successful, Atkins is not just a diet, but a way of eating for life.

Why did you stop Atkins last time? Were you feeling good following the plan?

I know. In my first blog post, I said that I am changing lifestyles. Last time, I decided to splurge and never got it going again. I did feel great! Just getting all the sugar out of my system gave me so much more energy. My problem was that I was always getting back on it tomorrow. And tomorrow I was getting on it the next day. And I can go the Chinese buffet that day because I was REALLY going to start the next day. NO MORE TOMORROWS! I am doing it NOW, and this is it. I do not want surgery. I am disciplined in other areas of my life (I am a professional musician, and a devout Christian), so I can apply my discipline to this area as well, and I will.

Thanks for all of your encouragement. What an awesome resource this site is!
