  • Hi, I am new and very hungry

Hey everyone, today I started my Atkins journey. I remember buying Dr. Atkins book 7 years ago thinking I'd start it then. Well 30 pounds and 7 years later I'm about to begin.

I have always been overweight even as a kid at 10. My diet as of yesterday consisted of Coke and bread mainly. I'm 5'6" and weight 235, I wanna get to my target weight of 150.

Today is day 1, and I am VERY hungry! Since this morning I have eaten: 1 mock danish, 1 garlic sausage, 1 small bowl of beef stew(Atkins recipe), and 30 minutes ago I had a breast of grilled chicken with hollandaise sauce with some broccoli and a Diet Coke w/ Splenda. But, I am still hungry! Been hungry all day. Normally if I were this hungry I'd go eat a loaf of french bread and wash it down with a 2 liter of Coke. Now, I am sucking down water wishing it was Coke.

What can I eat that will fill me up? Or, am I just mental?

No eggs or mushrooms please, cant go there.

How about eggs with mushrooms - OK just kidding

You need to eat. Have regular meals - load up on snacks if you get hungry in between. It is very normal to feel hungry the first few days because the body is so used to you loading it up with sugars and starches that it is not bothering to work with the fat and protein you are giving it. This will change soon but until it does EAT

No go easy on sweet stuff - even artificial sweet stuff. I see some flags there - lots of sugars in that moch danish>, sugars in the sausage (look for dextrose and corn syrup) If you can go easy on the diet coke. Limit it as much as you can.
If eggs are not an option you have to turn to meat and fish - burgers, chicken wings - what ever make them and eat them.
Get in a wide variety of veggies - Atkins suggest 3 cups.
    Drink PLENTY of water.
Good work on staying away from the bread - you deserve to get to goal. Work it.

Re: Hi, I am new and very hungry

You can do this. Get less sweet in your meal and more fat.

Make a cheesy omelet for breakfast with lots of butter, and toss in some bacon
HOw about a pork chop for lunch, with a cup of veggies
Dinner could be a hamburger, loaded, with mayo and mustard, lettuce, tomato onion, just no bun.

what is in the Atkins stew. I am always suspicious of his old recipes.

Anyway, eat like there were no tomorrow, as soon as ketosis kicks in your hunger will kick out.

Thanks Liv, I really didn't like that danish anyway. It had that egg in it, and it felt like I was eating a cinnamon omlette, gross. The sausage was sugar, nitrate, and carb free, it was very bland.

I'm thinking of putting another breast of chicken on the BBQ cause I feel like I'm starving.

          Do it!!!
          Eat it with some fat

You could try a cream cheese pumpkin mixture. It is pretty good.

About your stew. carrots and red wine are not on the induction list. It looks quite carby with that much onions. Is the a recipe in the book?

It was on the website Atkins Recipe - Beef Stew

I didn't really like it that much either...

                        Hi,

If you just started Induction, your appetite should decrease in a few days. If fact some people complain after a few days they feel that they are not eating enough, because they just are not hungry.

Indeed. Glad it is on day 1 where I find out I shouldn't trust the actual Atkins website, and instead should go to another (Lindas). It would have really sucked to find out on day 8 or so.

                            Hey Heavy B

Has your hunger gone down somewhat? I found mine still flares up once in a while when I've eaten something that is a trigger for me and I just have to feed it with fat and protein until it goes away. I'm still learning too. Best of luck and keep checking in here. I find its really helpful .
