  • Hi

I'm on my second week of induction and decided that excitement about this WOE can only take me so far. Being that I am the only one amongst my friends who has made this decision, I'll need moral support from you guys. That said, I'm still very excited and surprised by myself for making it this far, I usually give diets 3 days and quit.

I was a chubby kid and thankfully lost it all in middle school till about 23, and the weight slowly crept back. I let things go and just got bigger sizes, but soon realized there is nothing cute about a size 14 body and 16 hip at 5" 1.
But I am here now, and one week is a huge mile stone, 8 days and going strong, 6.6 pounds lost, life is beautiful. Day 3 was tough, I was visibly shaking all day and the halitosis (OMG!!!). Anyway I survived, tempted as I was with all the junk in the airport.

It took 6 years to get here so I know it wont melt away in a split second, but I am committed to at the very least have a normal BMI!!!!

I will appreciate meal planning tips from members who travel for work.

    Re: Hi

Good for you. One of the best ways to keep up the momentum is to start a journal here and post daily. The journal folks keep tabs on each other so if you go AWOL they check up on you. Also, look for buddy thread or start one of your own. Often newbies become each others buddies on their journeys.

DO you travel in a car for work or are you talking frequent flights?

Welcome to the ADBB, Hipster! And congrats on your loss and for sticking with it!

The fact that this way of eating is so natural and easy is the thing that keeps us all going. Diets that leave you feeling hungry and deprived just don't last.

        Re: Hi

Welcome and congrats on your success this far. When you notice the bad breath brush your teeth and drink more water - both will help keep it at bay!

We can only encourage you so far - the hard work is yours to do, but we will do everything we can for you as we do for each member here.

Plan your meals for a few days so you have everything legal in your home. Linda's recipe site is very helpful with delicious recipes - it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html.

The 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) is our guideline here on the board. Continue to eat only the foods listed on the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html, When you eat a variety of foods you'll keep from getting bored. Remember, to count “net carbs” (carb minus fiber equal net carbs) everyday - not total carbs.

Exercise, take a non-iron multivitamin and drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), daily. If you need anything we try to help each other here as much as possible.

          Re: Hi

Thanks for your support and advise. At chinadoll, yes I do a lot of air travel hopping between cities every week. That makes it hard to plan ahead. But so far I have kept the induction food list where ever I go and stick with it. My one indulgence which I am not sure is induction friendly is honey mustard. Not everyday, but in my opinion everything tastes better with it. I made some at home using dijon mustard and splenda, but the test is on travel days and Mayo makes me nauseous.

So far so good 8lbs in 9 days, I can't complain. For the halitosis, it's kinda hard brushing ever so often in a client's office. So I carry around travel size mouth wash.

I appreciate the comments and encouragement, every bit helps.

            Re: Hi

The honey mustard is not Induction friendly or Atkins friendly BUT you can buy sugar free syrup and mix it with mustard in a squeeze bottle and pack it in your suitcase. If you only do carry on this would be a problem with the NSA so I would travel with Splenda packets and a little cup you can mix it in and then rinse out after to make your own as you need it. I fly about 30K miles a year so I know how hard it is while traveling. Do call ahead when you can to order special meals--a few Airlines in the past have even done a low carb meal. Not so much nowadays..sigh. Its not easy when traveling but it can be done.

              Re: Hi

My travel is domestic, so I mostly carry on luggage. Traveling with splenda is a great idea as most places carry aspartame and sugar. Thanks.
I guess its bye bye to Honey mustard.
