    Re: (Re-)New Introduction

Well, this diet is really getting depressing. I can't seem to have much of anything. I have lost some weight though. I suppose it's all water loss. I guess you could say that I'm getting totally frustrated.

PS I do drink a ton of water, other than tea, as I know that anything added to water changes the chemical content. I have Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution book.

      >>I can't seem to have much of anything.>>

I can't think of any "diet" that would allow "a lot of iced tea with Splenda" instead of water.

      Are you drinking water?

      What exactly are you eating?

What are you frustrated about, exactly?

I checked the book, ok, it says iced tea with aspartame sweetener, then later tells you not to use aspartame. Go figure. Does the ice take the carbs out? Frustrating & confusing.

Am I drinking water? About 80 oz per day, minimum.

        What exactly am I eating?
        Breakfast:
2 egg omelette (0.9g) with 3 slices chopped bacon (0.36g), 1 TBSP chopped onion (1.01g), 2 TBSP tomato, red, raw, diced (1g), 2 TBSP cheddar cheese, shredded (0.18g)

        Lunch:
Chicken - roasted. Didn't weigh it to see how much.
OR 1 pork chop - BBQ'd (no sauce)
OR 1 hamburger patty - fried
Not sure of the carbs on these meats.

        Dinner:
Same as lunch for meats, 2 stalks celery (3.57g), 3 large radishes (0.93g), sugar free jello

Rules of the induction diet: 1. Your diet must contain no more than 20 grams of carbohydrates a day.

Before tea with Splenda, my total is 7.02g, and what ever is in the meats.

        Add tea (8oz) = 0.59g carbs so 3 cups would be 1.77g
Add Splenda packet = 0.9g carbs, so 3 packets would be 2.7g
This added to the 7.02g comes to 11.49g carbs for the day.

And I was getting the impression that everything I wanted to eat (that I thought to be "safe") was taboo. That is what was frustrating.

Atkins says that caffeine is not allowed for 1 week to break possible addiction. Then it may be used sparingly. I don't drink tea on a regular basis, but was really wanting something to drink besides water. Water gets boring and can make a person feel sloshy.

After reading your post the other day, I got so depressed and frustrated with the diet that I had a dixie cup of ice cream, but am back on today (and have had NO tea).

I haven't had any tuna, and no Miracle Whip because I was told that tuna has mercury, and Miracle Whip has sugar. I went ahead with the jello, even though it has aspartame because... well the book says you can have it but don't have it, and I wanted it so I could feel like I was having dessert.

          Hi,

You do not want to waste your carbs on tea and sweetener. You need to get them by eating nutritious foods, trying to get about 1/2 your daily carbs through veggies.

I had to laugh when you said this diet is really getting depressing!!!

I am not sure what you meant exactly about it being depressing, but for me...I have not felt this good in years, since I started Atkins in August. And I plan on continuing this as my eating for life.

          Depressing?
Not for me...I can eat when I am hungry. Sometimes I have to remind my self to eat, because the Atkins works, you rarely are hungry until your next meal time approaches.
          No calorie limits (within reason).
          I have tons more energy.
I weighy less today than I have weighed in over 10 years, ww and whatever else I tried never worked, and I was ALWAYS hungry and craving CARBS.
I barely have a craving anymore, and when I do, I count to 10 and it is gone. That minor and simple.
If you search the recipes, you can almost make an Atkins Friendly version of anything.
Today I made chili,( froze most of it for future use), Zucchini chips (can be used for dips or to put egg salad on), Cheesy Broccoli Hamburger casserole, egg salad, made 2 trays of bacon in the oven to last a few days, made OOpsie Rolls, Atkins friendly Green Fluff Dessert for a St. Patty's day celebration this afternoon, and an Atkins friendly Cheesecake for another gathering Sunday. And I made a great cream cheese and pumpkin pudding for dessert tonight after my dinner of parmesan crusted chicken tenderloins with fried onions and radishes.

Does that all sound like a depressing way to eat??? And I gave up my nightly cocktail , didn't miss it after a few days...though If I want it once in awhile, it will be legal when I hit the alcohol rung on OWL.

It looks like you need to up your veggies, so here is a little help for you.

HANG IN THERE, it will get easier after a few days...

I think one of the things that I find most depressing is this forum. I seem to get hit with negativity every post I have made (with the exception of my first post). Even you, you mock me because I'm getting frustrated, and depressed. To me, it's not a laughing matter.

This isn't my first time around the block. I originally went on Atkins in Jan. of 2004 and lost over 50 pounds, most of which I have kept off. I just wanted to get back on the start, so I could lose again before my trip to Germany.

I'm a very picky eater... of all those foods that you listed, that you find so enjoyable... the only one I'd eat would be the parmesan crusted chicken. Believe it or not, it's hard being so picky. I don't like to eat just plain cheese - it has to be cooked with something. I don't like fish - except tuna, but that has mercury. There are very few vegetables that I like. Of all the salad vegetables listed, I only like radishes and celery. Now, take that long list of vegetables in addition to salad vegetables, and I only like 4 of them. Since having radiation treatment, I just don't tolerate red meats much.

Do you understand my frustration now?

              Re: (Re-)New Introduction

It is too bad that you think my post was negative, and I certainly was not mocking you. I was trying to show you the VERY positive side of this WOE, and if it was a depressing way to lose weight to me, I sure would not have been able to stay with it and lose almost 50 # for the first time in my life. It is a shame when people try to help, and because apparently you have already made up your mind to only see the Negative side of any help or support, you would have this reaction. Previous Posters have show you where to correct the things you are possibly doing wrong, this is what the board does, and you call it negative?

Please point out JUST one negative thing I said, since you quoted my post.

And mocking you? By pointing out all of the great things I made today to eat? I see nothing but positive things. Again, it seems you must have a chip on your shoulder. Instead of YOU being negative, why don't you find the ways to make Atkins work for you, instead of making excuses about the ways it isn't working for you.

And if you don't enjoy any of the foods I mentioned except the Parmesan chicken...that certainly is not a reason to call my reply negative or mocking.

I also pointed out you seemed to need some help with your veggies and I gave you the link to one of the best posts ever made by a woman who put together a fantastic way to get in all of your nutritious needed daily veggies.

I will repeat what I said, and it is not mocking you or being negative...this diet is not depressing for me.

Good luck with your weight loss journey. You won't have to worry about me trying to help you out. And I hope you find a more positive way to approach your current journey. It will help you so much more.

Do you have the 2002 edition? There are three editions: 1992, 1999 and 2002.

From what you're saying, I think you have a pre-2002 edition.

You could restart in OWL, if you feel Induction doesn't allow you enough food choices.

I just don't tolerate red meats much.
You don't need to eat red meats. You can have chicken and turkey. You can have eggs, cheese (for protein you want something other than cream cheese) and tofu.

OWL will give you even more options.

You missed the point I was trying to make.

You missed the point - read back to where you had to laugh at me.

<<I also pointed out you seemed to need some help with your veggies and I gave you the link to one of the best posts ever made by a woman who put together a fantastic way to get in all of your nutritious needed daily veggies.>>
You obviously didn't read the part about how I really don't care for vegetables.

Only you and one other really had the negative tone to your posts.

                    TO Georgiana:
I still have time to finish the induction period, and will be able to go on to OWL while I'm in Germany. I did read up on the mercury of tuna - once I was told that it was bad for me. I didn't know about the mercury before. Yeah, it sucks not tolerating red meat well. Good thing I like chicken. ;-) Good idea to eat more eggs.

I looked in my book, and it showed 1992, and then 1997. I bought it used. Either way, I'll manage, but the first few days of being lethargic, and constipated just doesn't make one feel too chipper. I do have more energy now.
