However, ketchup isn't Atkins friendly ... it's almost pure sugar! It has more sugar per ounce than ice cream.

Yep it's not about the carbs on this plan. It's about the right combo of foods and some things are off limits, especially in induction. The last thing you want is to stir up a bunch of cravings over some ketchup loaded with sugar or knock yourself out of ketosis.

Your energy drinks will be off limits too but like mentioned not everyone switches to decaf or quits drinking coffee. Dh still drinks his coffee and he loses fine. It will depend on your personal tolerance for it.

There's probably not very much on the burger ... but that's no reason to have it.

            Re: Day 5

I just mixed mayo with spicy brown mustard, 0 carbs and tasted so good I thought I was cheating. I had it on some roasted pork that I cooked this weekend and then cut up into slices. I pan seared the cooked pork with some onions and mushrooms. I put black pepper on it and dipped it in the mayo/ mustard combo. I had to struggle with whether or not I would eat a third slice.

Both mayonnaise and mustard have carbs.

both say zero carbs on the back and don't have any sugars or secret sugar words in them. How many carbs do they have?

                  >>both say zero carbs on the back>>

The nutritional label very often lies. Manufacturer's are allowed to round down ... and they do!

If the ingredients have carbs, then the end result can't be 0 carbs.

Mayonnaise has eggs (and sugar), and lemon juice ... all of which have carbs.

                  Mustard itself has carbs.

                  >>How many carbs do they have?>>

Why not look in the back of your DANDR and check what it says there?

Or ... look them on on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal (don't forget to subtract the fiber to get "net" carbs).

Ok, I stand corrected. I should have said very low carb instead of zero carbs. Mayo .1 carb, and the mustard has .5 carbs. So I would guestimate that I had .7 carbs to go along with my pork. It doesn't make it any less delicious!

Don't forget the serving sizes ... if you use a glop of mayonnaise, it's more than .1 net carb! Same with the mustard.

All those little fractions add up!!

Also, thanks for steering me to the guide in the back of the book, that helps a lot. I hadn't gotten that far yet. I haven't even started reading the OWL part yet. I want to get this induction thing done right first.

Heinz makes a low carb ketchup ... it's called "Reduced Sugar" (there's no sugar in it).

You can also make your own.

I buy that stuff a lot and I like it. I use it to make BBQ sauce. It is awesome.
