  • New.. Have question about fat

Hi....I'm a 39 year old wife and mom. I haven't lost my "baby weight" yet and my son is 20 months. I've definitely been ready to do this. 3 weeks ago I let someone talk me into doing the Mayo Grapfruit diet, where you can only 3 times a day, same thing for breakfast and of course drink the grapefruit. Well, I lost 3 lbs initially, which I'm convinced was water only. Then I realized how many carbs the grapefruit has and it made no sense to me why I had to drink it 3 times a day. Long story short, I then decided to start Atkins 2 weeks ago. So 4 days into that, I lost 2.5 lbs. So in 2 1/2 weeks I lost 5 lbs. That I'm very satisfied with. However the last 10 days the scale didn't move and I started to look at what I consumed. Soda with Aspartame...Read I should probably stay away from. But I used it for my "sweet" fix. Now I have to admit I didn't buy the book.
My biggest confusion is... do I have to watch my meat portions and fat or not? I've read your body doesn't know the difference between consumed fat and your body fat and something about it will burn the consumed fat. Should I only then stick to the chickenbreast instead of pork chops after all? It's not like I'm going crazy on the fatty meats, but I try to spice it up by switching between them all. Yet, I read if you try a low fat version, it will not work............?
Thanks for any helpful comments. BTW, I haven't "knowingly" cheated, as in no alcohol, caffeine or sneak something in. Unless I snuck in hidden carbs but I've carefully read al labels. For example, I did have bratwurst one night but because they were 2 g a link, I omitted my veggie carbs. Is that a no no???

Re: New.. Have question about fat

Welcome to ADBB Nelle. I would first highly recommend that you get yourself a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution~2002 version. In the meantime read all of the "sticky notes" at the top of the Atkin Phases Forums.
Atkins Low Carb Dieting - FAQ's - Atkins Diet

Atkins Diet 14-day Induction - Atkins Diet

This should get you started on the right foot until you can get a copy of the book so you understand the concept of this way of eating. Hope this helps! Good luck!

      >>I used it for my "sweet" fix.>>

You would do better to not feed your craving for sweet. One of the purposes of Induction is to get over our desire for "sweet".

      >>Now I have to admit I didn't buy the book.>>

Are you going to get a copy soon? It's almost impossible to do Atkins with long term success without a copy of the manual!

      >>I omitted my veggie carbs. Is that a no no???>>

Yes. Atkins is primarily about the vegetables. It's a high fat, low carb [not 0 carb], medium protein way of eating.

If you read the book, you'll understand.

Re: New.. Have question about fat

Yes you need to know what you are doing. Diet works if you work it. And that means following ALL the rules.
Cutting out veggies and eating artificial sweets. Nah - not Atkins 2002.
So buy Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 and have fun with it. Small price to pay.
