  • Atkins Newbie..finishing day 1

Well today was my first full day of the Atkins Induction and of course it started off with a 6:30 am flight to Florida, a long car ride and a night spent at a hotel. But through it all I believe that today has been a success.

For breakfast at the airport I ordered a breakfast bagel and only ate the 2 eggs and sausage pattie - that was very tough as bagels and I have had a very long love affair.

Lunch was not as easy- I drove all around only finding fast food until I saw a Pei Wei in the horizon. Pei Wei is a great arena for healthly chinese food and offers take out. Here I ordered a chicken dish and had them boil and not fry the chicken. I then always request to have broccoli also added. It comes with brown rice but today I was good and did not give it to the temptation.

Dinner ended up being very easy but very pricey as I am in a hotel and had to order room service which consisted of a rotisserie chicken substituted the potatoes for the broccoli raab and a side salad with italian dressing. All in all I think it has been a very successful first day. I just hope I am doing this right! If you have any suggestions please let me know!

My goal is to hit a healthy weight by September so that my husband and I can begin the process of growing our family. As far as I am concerned this is the best goal I have ever had. I just pray I stick to it!

    Welcome to ADBB.

    Well, what's eaten is eaten.

I would check with the websites of the fast food places you ate to see what was in the eggs and the sausage.

Did your hotel have a restaurant?

Rotisserie chicken is very often plumped with a sugar solution and there's very often flour on the skin.

Do you know how much sugar was in the Italian dressing?

What will you be eating tomorrow?

hmmm. The breakfast place at the airport was Au Bon Pain and it has nutional facts but only as a whole and does not break down to the individual egg and sausage.

The chicken did come with skin but I peeled it before I ate it - what would be your advice since I travel 2-3 times a month?

Tomorrow I am at an all day conference where there will be a buffet with a salad, fish, soup and other foods you would normally find. I know I will be drinking tons of coffee but I want to make sure not too use too much sugar substitute. A little nervous!

You should drink tons of water instead.

Does the Au Bon Pain website give a list of ingredients?

Do the best you can ... be as knowledgeable as you can before you eat something ... not after.

Traveling is tough. I agree that you should try to educate yourself beforehand if possible. There are carb count guides that include most chain restaurants. That's a handy thing to carry with you. I think you did quite well under the circumstances.
