  • Starting Atkins.... Day 1 is today

    Hi all, my name is vicky and I live in south wales uk. I did atkins a long time ago but didn't stick to it wish I would of now. I am 30 years old and have a lot of weight to lose, I also have PCOS which has triggered the interest in atkins after reading how low carb has helped other sufferers with their symptoms. I can see your a friendly bunch here as I have been reading these forums before taking the plunge and joining and any help/tips/advice would be great.

      Hi Vicky!!! I wish you success!!!! Hope your doing great on it!!!! I'm a newbie too started a week ago today!! Did good, no cravings at all until we went to a birthday party...the cake looked wonderful. But I did good, didn't eat it!!! Had a salad instead!

            Thanks all... I am on day 3 going ok so far I think it's taking a bit of getting used to making sure carbs are below 20 and eating all my veggies just getting used to a whole new way of eating. Good on you for saying no to cake, that would have been so hard for me.
            Anyone else have a bad headache and feel slightly sick when first starting out?

              Headache and sick feeling is definitely normal. Stick it out and it should pass in a few days (from now).

                Thanks Farley I am hoping it does not last too long but am going to stick it out because I know it will be worth it in the end. I have not really eaten much today but feel slightly sick and not hungry at all, I guess I am just not used to it yet.

                  You can take whatever pain meds you need. Getting through induction flu is tough, but you've got it in you. And when you are in keto during induction, your appetite will be curbed slightly. Don't be surprised if you are eating less. Is there something you liked a lot before that you can't think of a substitute for? Maybe someone will have an idea to help you get some food into you (when you're hungry).

                    I am going to take some painkillers I think, my headache is just not going away. Thanks for the advice it has made me feel a whole lot better that it is normal. I have been reading the recipe forums and found some lovely ideas which I will try at the weekend. The things I miss most even after 3 days is bread, potatoes and diet coke... I did find a simple idea of hard boiled eggs mashed with butter and a little salt which I had yesterday and for breakfast this morning.

                      I am on day #9 of my Induction, and am wondering when my energy level will come back up a notch? As well, constipation seems to be settling in....any tips?

                        Hi Theresa, I know how you feel I feel quite tired and slightly constipated. I have read up and apparently with the energy it just comes back no time limit really. With constipation well if it continues I will get some flax seed as you are allowed 1 tbsp a day on induction but only if constipated. I just keep thinking that it has to be worth it and in a few weeks I will be wondering what all the fuss was about. Hope you feel better soon, take comfort in knowing it's all normal as farley said it will pass

                          Psyllium husks is what you are limited on induction.

                          Flax meal is o'tay Remember to drink an extra 8 oz of water if you are having flax.

                          Muffin in a Minute

                          Serving Size: 1

                          1/4 cup flax meal (8.09 total carbs, 7.6 fiber) (30 g)
                          1/2 teaspoon baking powder (0.64 net carbs)
                          1 packet splenda packet (0.9 net carbs)
                          1 teaspoon cinnamon (1.84 total carbs, 1.2 fiber)
                          1 large egg (0.6 net carbs)
                          1 teaspoon butter

                          (total carbs is 12.07, fiber is 8.8; net carbs is 3.27)

                          Put the dry ingredients in a coffee mug.

                          Stir.

                          Then add the egg and the butter. Mix.

                          Microwave 1 minute (or more). Take out. slice, butter, eat.

                          The cinnamon and splenda can be replaced to make it a savoury muffin/bread. I use it to make sandwiches.

                          This is allowed on induction.

                              Ah I see I got them mixed up I think. That recipe looks good quick and easy is always a bonus. Going to get some flax on the weekend will definately make this sounds really nice might be a treat instead of bread rolls (obviuosly countimg carbs)
