• I'm back!

    Hi there,

I am 26 and I have been overweight since the age of 6. I'm dying to find out what it's like being fit, healthy and comfortable with my body! I'm re-starting Atkins & think this'll be the time I get rid of that title for good. This may be what I have thought several times as I started out Atkins, but I never really fully committed to it. This time I've made a very detailed plan which includes joining ADBB , starting a blog to sort out my crazies whilst I'm at it , and starting a food and exercise journal. My roommate's started Atkins with me, too, so that's all the more support.

I'm in the healthcare field and when I was a student in '05 and read the "New Diet Revolution" I felt cheated of all the years that'd past me by without me knowing about Atkins and trying unsuccessfully to lose weight! I was (and still am) inspired by the dietary sense that it made put in a historical and scientific context, the potential speed of results and also the "mouth-watering" meals he promised (really, that dude had a way with words!) I started immediately and went from 203 to 183 in a month with a good few hefty cheats interspersed! It was great! Of course I stupidly stopped and after wearing my "tiny clothes" for another month or 2 then started my ascent to 240-something! I started & stopped Atkins since then, but never put my heart in it after the first time. Luckily I was back at 211 8 months ago when I started on & off dieting again and (long story short) ended up at 238.

I just started Atkins again 4 days ago and I don't know where the motivation came from that allowed me to lose 9.2 lb so far! I always lose really quickly, but just give up cz I can't bear the cooking & advanced planning required (maybe due to the ADHD I just found out I have, but I feel pretty guilty blaming things on that.) I feel much better now than I have before when starting, because my kitchen's stocked and there're a good few super recipes here on this website I'm excited to try! Anyways, I'm putting everything I have into this, I've a good plan and support and please wish me luck with this, because I can't describe how much I need it!

    Thx!,
    blackbird

    Dinner tonight:

Bacon Cheeseburger Delight- beat egg and mix in finely-diced onions, fresh ginger, fresh garlic, fresh lemongrass, fresh coriander and ground beef. Add just a little salt and white & black pepper, mix, separate into small balls, flatten and fry as burgers. Place on a big lettuce leaf and sprinkle some cheese. Add just a little sauteed mushrooms and bacon & cover with another lettuce leaf. Not sure of the net carbs, but I'll watch it, I promise!

    Welcome to ADBB!

You could use a program like Nutrition facts, calories in food, labels, nutritional information and analysis – NutritionData.com, FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal to figure out the carbs in your recipe.

Wow- thanks, atkinsgal08, that was quick! & helpful! I added that first link to my blog and will definitely be using it

I'll be reading around the website more, but forgot to ask: does anyone have any motivational tricks/techniques they use to keep themselves on track? That seems to be my biggest challenge and probably the reason why I didn't get back on the boat before when I fell off!

        What worked for me:

Just because <insert food here> is on the table, doesn't mean I have to eat it.

"No, thank you" requires no further explanation or discussion.

This is simply how I eat.

Biggest motivation: standing in front of the mirror naked.

Oh my goodness gracious... what a great idea! Maybe every Sunday evening before I start the week. There'll be... so much to contemplate!
