  • New to here: 4th week Atkins

    Hi all! I started Atkins around four weeks ago (from their web-site) for the second time. The first time, a few months back, I wasn't in the right head space, and while I did all the "Courses" available, it didn't stick in my head for some reason. This time around, I am finding it SO easy! Okay, I have had vodka and Club Soda on Friday and Saturday nights... but they have NO carbs, and seem to not effect it. I read somewhere that one of the main reasons for no alcohol, even no carb alcohol, was because of the loss of self control.. IE: EATING when you are drinking. See?! That's the kicker. Hubby 'sabotages' me almost from day one on low-fat/low-calorie diets, because HE losses his self control and makes up Salmon Lox, or Buffalo wings during a movie ...and then bacon and eggs for breakfast. I can now enjoy these little sabotages (using cucumber instead of crackers for the lox, of course...)

    So anyways, I started Atkins on April 6th or 7th at 170 lbs... and am now (as of April 29th, my official weigh-in day) am 161.4 lbs. Not bad for a little over 4 weeks... The best in years, in fact! ...AND I'm doing great! I haven't craved bread, rice or potatoes (rice is one of my biggest down-falls! in fact, I made sushi the other day, with cauli-rice! It was JUST THE SAME! Got the idea from here! THANKS!) I seem to have tons of energy, AND I'm sleeping better.

    Anyways, you'll hopefully be reading more from me as time goes on...
    Goals:
    Immediate Goal: 157 lbs (lowest weight @ TOPS)
    Next Goal: 153 lbs (10% of highest weight)
    Fun Goal: Donate all my size 1X, 14 & 16 clothes!
    Final Goal: 142 lbs (to try on all my stored "TOO SMALL" clothes... and to donate 3/4 of them because, well... the 90's are dead!

    Welcome to ADBB!

    Alcohol is not acceptable on Induction. The reason for this is because the body prefers to burn alcohol first, not fat... so fat burning stops (temporarily) if you consume alcohol.

    The information on the Atkins website is not all correct. Their Acceptable Foods List is not complete, the net carbs listed for some foods are off, there are no Rules of Induction...

    If you prefer to follow the plan you read about in the courses at Atkins.com, then I would suggest you read The New Atkins for a New You.

    ADBB doesn't follow that plan though; here we go by the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution.

    Of course, you could read both books. Even better.

        I am currently reading The Atkins NEW Revolution Diet Book... Just picked it up. And I guess, in truth, as I am having a few drinks on the weekend, I AM in OWL. I will read up more on that tonight. Thanks.

          Looks like I might already have met my 1st mini-goal! Official weigh-in is tonight! Wish me luck!
