  • From a BIG GUY!!

    Hello,

I guess I am close to 360 lbs and 6' 2" tall. I never had a weight problem in my life untill about 6 or 7 years ago when I started working behind a desk. I was always around 200 lbs and active.

Now my arms fall asleep at night, I have dizzy spells, my feet hurt ALL THE TIME, my knee popped about 18 months ago and still hurts me, I have to fly first class because I dont want to be embarrassed sitting in the small seats, I dont fit in restaurant booths and feel like a cow sitting at chairs in the middle of the room..... I can go on and on but I bet you guys know what I am talking about.

I am 40 years old and I own an eBay store. My turning point was when two extremely attractive young college girls came and looking around and asked if this was like the store in the 40 year old virgin where nothing was for sale. Then they giggled to themselves the whole time walking around the store talking about me.

My wife of 19 years has never said a word to me about my weight. When I bring it up to her she always says she loves me any way I am.

When I told her I was going to diet she said she will too. She took the Atkins book, read it,, and is getting ready to go shopping for us to start the diet Saturday. She is 5' 4" and about 185 and she wants to get to 135 to 140. She said she was also going to join this forum so I will let her tell you guys her story. All I will say is she is sexxy as heck right now so I dont care if she loses anything. So it's up to her. I am just worried about myself. I dont want to be one of the guys who dies in his 40's.

Anyway that is all for now I guess.

    Re: From a BIG GUY!!

from one big guy to another, this is your chance to lose a lot of weight very fast, very easily. stay commited.
i lost about 120lbs on atkins about 10 years ago. it was my first time doing atkins, and took me about 7 months to do it. this time around, it is alot slower, but im fine with that. once you guys lose the weight, youll be much happier, healthier, and will enjoy life again. stay focused and dont gain it back like i did!

I've said almost the exact same things you've said about myself so I know where you're coming from. It takes a big commitment but if you're willing to give it the attention it needs, you'll succeed. Good luck!

My husband and I are doing this together too. He only had about 30lbs to lose to my ~150, so he reached goal ages ago, but he is still going strong. We both read the book - it really helps! We love the food (it takes a bit of getting used to...but within a few months, we were converted) so we don't find it TOO difficult to stay on track.

Best wishes to both of you for success!

                Re: From a BIG GUY!!

From one "Big Guy" to another, welcome aboard. A lot of success stories here will keep you encouraged. When your wife joins you, it sure makes it a lot easier.

Good for you to look at the health risks at a relatively young age. That's good motivation. I lost my youngest brother to a heart attack 10yrs ago. He got large. He was only 36.

I'm on my second go around with Atkins at 56. Better late than never.

Glad to have you both here.

                  Re: From a BIG GUY!!

Hi and welcome Master!!! Glad to see you and your wife made a decision to become much healthier! Check Linda's recipe site for wonderful ideas for full meals or side dishes. http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/

Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily – more is better but at least 64 ounces. Take a vitamin w/o iron daily and exercise.

Eat when you are hungry - remember on Atkins you have to eat to loose! Best of luck to both of you - can't wait to see your wife's intro!
