    Re: I re-start 3/16/09

the only fish I can choke down is shrimp and tuna....I have eaten walleye before with some success but it was breaded & deep fried - not quite Atkins friendly! We're talking about going to Red Lobster because mom loves lobster and I really want to try it. My luck since it's expensive I'll like it...LOL!!! There was a restaurant here that fixed a wonderful tilapia that I would order occassionally but they are no longer in business and when I tried making it I couldn't handle the smell or the taste -- so I stick with tuna and shrimp.

I take Hellman's and put just a pinch of Heinz Carb One Ketchup in it (enough to make it pink) then dip shrimp in it for my shrimp cocktails. One of the grocery store where I shop has a hugs cooler filled with large shrimp you can buy by the piece or pound...I go get about a pound or less and make shrimp cocktails for lunches once in awhile -- that's a great meal and requires no cooking .... would be a great take-along meal for those on the go also

Carole, I'm with you on taking the old, rehashed nutritional research as gospel.

I have seen so much sensational research... much of it based on one flawed study or influenced by whoever did the study's financial interests. And there is so much cheezy science now. Also in a lot of studies, results that don't fit the agenda of the one doing the research are simply suppressed.

And remember the AMA is still telling people to eat low fat high carb diets.

It's probably better to eat red meat two or three times a week, but I have always believed that moderation in all things is the golden key to health.

good afternoon -- I've got 10 miles in on the bike this morning and have had breakfast and am eating lunch as I'm typing.

breakfast is my usual (I love this breakfast) - 2 scrambled eggs with ham & 1 oz green onion with scant cheese. Coffee w/splenda and 30oz water

additional 30 oz water during morning

lunch (see below) 2oz turkey breast, 1 Tbsp Hellman's 3 radishes, 1oz zucchini, 1 string cheese, 6 asparagus spears w/olive oil & veggie seasoning. 30 oz water. I'm stuffed!

I second that. Thanks for sharing the photos. Digital cameras have just made life so much more interesting, haven't they?

Since we're discussing seafood, I cooked blackened shrimp alfredo for supper tonight. It was sooooo good!

                Re: I re-start 3/16/09

blackened shrimp alfredo sounds wonderful Sunny!!! Maybe next week...lol.

It rained all afternoon so I couldn't get outdoors. Dinner was 1/2 stuffed green pepper (Linda's recipe), a salad 2/ranch dressing and asparagus spears. I'm going to have a flax cookie later....things aren't moving for me so I need a little help!

After dinner I took Sadie for a quick walk before the rain started again. She had so much energy since she was stuck in the house today so it was quick but she ran off enough energy that she's not bouncing off the walls here! LOL

My friend Heidi is thinking about re-starting induction but she has her hands full training a 9 week old guide dog at the moment -- she's doing this for 6 weeks so she's started running 3-4 miles a day while the puppy is taking his morning nap. She is on a gluten free diet which she found out after starting Atkins and having so much trouble losing any weight. She has a total of 18 pounds to loose and has lost 5 so it's taking her longer since she doesn't have as much to loose as someone like me. She's a retired college professor and is super nice! I'm going to try and get her to join us once she has time to restart.

It was supposed to rain here today. Would alternate between cloudy and sunny. I thought I was going to get away with not having to lug the hose around, but no such luck. The rain never came.

It would be lovely if Heidi could join us!

Anyway, I think I'm going to cut down and eat more fish. It didn't say to stop eating it, just to keep the portions small because of heart and cancer risks.

On Fox News this morning one of the segments was Dr. Toon, Epidemologist from the American Cancer Society. This is what he said:

"this study was done with people who were eating red meat 3 times a day, not 3 times a week or 3 times a month".

paraphrasing the rest of his words. I recorded him so I could rewatch it:
this was an Epidemological test of 500,000 people ages 50-71
How were they studied? they were member of AARP who filled out a questionaire for how they ate for 10 years. It was not a scientific test and
should not be "the last word on red meat" - you can't believe 1 study -
it doesn't clinch the case for don't eat red meat.

Hi Carole, I know I've been AWOL, but it won't be for long, work should slow down soon.

I heard the Red Meat Report on NPR and okay, everything in moderation, thats my motto.

hi Lynne -- glad you stopped by to say hi...can't wait until you're here more so we can harrass you more!!

Today was pretty good .... had to go get supplies again to get through the next few days - it was nice to get out but didn't have time since mom was home in bed....I don't like to leave her alone for long periods of time when she doesn't feel good. I'm taking her to the dr. Friday at 10:40 -- this has gone on long enough and I told her I really didn't care how much she didn't want to go to the doctor, she's going.

It was colder today but still sunshine and no rain! I talked to Charlie and he now knows what my plans for the yard are. He thought it all sounded doable and as soon as I find the landscaping brick and type of rock I want he'll be over to do it. Yippee!!

Breakfast: turkey sausage pattie, 2 scrambled eggs w/hot sauce, 30oz water & coffee w/splenda

                        midmorning: 30oz water

Lunch: tossed salad w/ranch dressing, 2 oz pastrami w/melted swiss roll ups.

Afternoon: low blood sugar - pepperoni chips, string cheese & 30oz water ... that worked! When I checked my blood it was 68 - I get the shakes in the middle to low 70's so I was at the shakey, sweaty, blurred vision period when I ate. At dinner it registered 84 so I was back to where I needed to be.

Dinner: 3oz Country style pork rib (yummie), 2 cups fried cabbage & asparagus spears. 30oz water & coffee w/splenda.

I ate too quickly and need to go take a walk to get that overfull feeling to go away....Sadie would love to go so I guess we'll take off!

Carole, THANKS for posting the picture! It is so nice to see what people look like. I know you have your photo on your avatar, but a bigger picture sure is nice!

Well face, neck, boobs and rear end is where mine has all come from. My poor face looks 10 years older now... DEEP wrinkles! I will wait to post another picture until the smaller size balances out the older face!

Hope the doctor can help your Mom feel better soon.

I will probably take Sunny (my maltese) with me on walks after I get him groomed. Right now his ears are dragging on the ground and his hair is TOO long, so he would be a mess to clean!

I don't know why I put off taking him to the groomer, but I always procrastinate on that!

                              Re: I re-start 3/16/09

I managed to get some coconut oil in today so far...I put about a 1/2 tsp in my eggs with butter this morning...and another 1/2 tsp in the chicken I cooked for lunch....I didn't taste it so it was ok! I just can't do the coconut oil in my coffee thing....the oil slick isn't what I want to see.

This morning as soon as dh got up and in the shower I made the bed and cleaned up the bedroom - I had 2 loads of laundry done and put away before 11:00 and ate lunch just before noon. I had my normal breakfast, so had chicken breast, broccoli and 3 radishes for lunch...it was yummie!!

We're having chicken again for dinner - there were 5 breasts left in the package so I thawed them all this morning. That way I'll have an extra for lunch tomorrow. I have some fried cabbage left over from last night so I'll add a veggie & salad and call in good....mom & dh can have leftover mac & cheese, a veggie & salad - that's easy enough!

Today is bike day....so I'll have to get in there and get it done. I finished my ads challenge this morning (yea) -- I think I'm going to switch my challenges for next month....I need a change for awhile. Will have to figure out what I'm going to do. I did join the weigh/no weigh challenge that starts this coming week so since it starts the day I should weigh for the end of induction I'll weigh on Saturday instead...no biggie.

I've finished 10 miles on the bike so I came in to have a cup of coffee and relax. I was looking at people's pictres here and came across mine...I just couldn't see that much of a difference in my face so I put the 3 pictures together and finally - there it is....I have a chin -- it's gettig to be more of a prominent chin and not as much of a little indent at the bottom of my face.....I might have an oval face again instead of a round plate face!
