    Re: Creeping Up The Rungs

The blood sugar crash sounds scary!

I have been absolutely exhausted lately, and my appetite is big again. I think it's the extra exercise I've been doing. I decided to take a rest day today and will try to talk dH into going shopping later.

The thermometer says it's warm here, but the wind is brisk and chilly. I am going to keep putting off the yardwork until it warms up. I HATE the cold... don't tolerate it well at all.

Hope the eye surgery went well. It would upset me, too.

I bet the pots are gorgeous. Would love to see pictures!

So glad you are getting together with your girlfriend. That should make for a very special weekend! Enjoy!

      Re: Creeping Up The Rungs

Hi Sunny -- I talked to my brother this morning (he called about mom's day) and ask if I could drop mom off with him for a weekend when I go to KC to see Denise....he said they could probably do it ::rolling eyes:: The hubs likes mom but she is just nasty toward him so there is really no way I want to put either of them through being alone here for more than a few hours at a time...hence, mom going to Jeff's for the weekend. I ask her last night if she'd like to go up for a weekend and see the girls and stay with Jeff....she said that would be nice, then I told her about me going to KC....LOL!!! We'll see, I'd like to have some selfish no hubs, mom or dog time....I don't remember the last time I had a weekend to spend with a friend - I know it's been years.

My carbs were low today but I'm full so I can't see eating anything else.....I had extra veggies today so they were a bit over on FitDay but not that badly. When I sit here and think about it I want something to eat.....arrrrrrggggg!!!! I'm going to bed now....good night

          Re: Creeping Up The Rungs

that weekend can't get here soon enough! The last couple years have been one thing after another with little time to sort things out. A weekend away with a best friend from childhood that I haven't seen in over 40 years will be so much fun. We have been talking through email and on the phone for about a year so we have pretty much caught up on the little things and the big things. It's sadly funny how our lives have parallelled over the years - we've both been married 3 times (she just got her 3rd divorce), she had 1 daughter, 1 gave up a son for adoption...we worked multiple jobs at 1 time to make ends meet. Now we are both taking care of a parent -- her mom passed about 10 years ago (my dad 26 years ago) she moved back in with her dad after her divorce - mom moved in here with us. When we were in brownies and girl scount my mom was one of the leaders. When we had scout day the meetings were at our house, so I would go to Denise's house and spend an hour with her mom then I would be home in time for treat time with the scouts. I never missed treat time -- especially when I was younger. Denise's mom always wondered why I didn't go home for the scout meetings - I didn't like being there, I liked being at their house because her mom was a nice lady. Her dad worked in the meat department at one of the grocery stores. If her mom wasn't home when I came to "visit" her I would sit on the front porch until she came home or until it was time to go home for the treats. LOL. We are trying to get another friend to come too but she's taking care of her mom who is in the middle stages of cancer with no hope of recovery or of stopping the progress of the disease. We have all grown up, raised families and now take care of our parents. At least Wanda has both of her parents still so her dad is there to help take care of her mom. That has to be a great help for all of them. It's just nice to be close to both of them after all these years.

Friends like that are one of the greatest treasures in our lifetimes, I think.

And isn't it strange how our lives often parallel those of our closest friends? Almost spooky sometimes!

No matter how bad it's gotten you can do this, this is manageable, take it one day at a time.

                Re: Creeping Up The Rungs

This was a vicious weekend and without thinking I had a big spoonful of baked beans in my mouth....I can't believe I did it - I have been so good at not tasting things while cooking since I started. It happened I can't take it back so I have to live with it.

The hubs is mad because he says it's hot downstairs and thought I should have the air on .... it's 76 degrees outside and a stiff wind -- I'm NOT turning the air on - he can open windows and turn his fan on. I'm ready to go to bed - I've had this day.

I hope tomorrow brings something better than today!

                    Re: Creeping Up The Rungs

so far so good --- I'm back on track...joined Mitzi's veggie challenge starting next Monday. I don't have problems getting my veggies in everyday as a matter of fact I have to stop myself from overeating veggie carbs - so I thought it might help if I really watched and counted the veggies!

It's raining here and has been since 7:00 a.m. so I ate lunch and laid down for awhile. I have been so tired the past week and think maybe I'll stary laying down for a little while in the afternoons again until this passes.

Ok -- time to get on the bike and ride like the wind...LOL!!!!

                      Re: Creeping Up The Rungs

I overdid it on the veggies tonight.

I fixed broccoli and cauliflower with cheese sauce and pumpkin. I went back for a second helping on the broccoli and cauliflower. It was TOO good!

I am amazed at your bike mileage.

I had intended to walk this evening, but ended up just riding the bike. I was tired and felt like I was in slow motion... so 4.68 miles took me 40 minutes!

Carole, I tried your fried radishes last night and loved them! I will definitely be making them more often. And the fact that they're low carb and low calorie, doesn't hurt a bit!!!

Dh's response to them was, 'Well, anything fried with an onion has to be good', so he liked them as well.

After I made them, I thought, 'That was dumb, I should have waited until the Veggie Challenge starts on Monday'! Oh well, I'll just have to find a new way to fix something else next week.

I love veggies and could live on them if I had too! Thank you for that great idea! It's now a new favorite!!!

How is everything going for you today?

Another fried radish convert!! I agree with your DH -- anything fried with an onion has to be good!! I have them at least once a week because they are a great side dish. You can have them at any meal - I've had eggs, ham and fried radishes for breakfast (or as an evening meal) and have them for lunch and dinner -- who'd a thunk it!

I'm doing very well -- woke up this morning and decided it's May and time to shake things up again...I'm back in the abs & squat challenges where I started and where I seemed to loose my stomach the best...plus I'm still in the Route 66, water, stairs and cheat free challenges. I seem to do better when I have to account for my movements. How are you doing? Hope all is well because, a day without radishes is a sad day!!! LOL

WOW, Carole, I don't know how you manage all those challenges but it's great that you do. You must be in terrific shape!

I can't do squats because of a bad knee except for 10 that I do in the leg rountine when I strength train. I'm thinking of joining the strength training challenge but I'm not sure about it yet.

I got busy last night and raked the leaves and old flower stalks out of my flower beds. Spring comes a lot later here than where you live. I'm going to plant some bulbs that my daughter brought over from her house. It's 42° here but the fruit trees are in full bloom and smell wonderful. I hung the hummingbird feeders out last night because they will be returning any day now. I just love watching them!

                              Re: Creeping Up The Rungs

I use to live in Sherman, NY -- halfway between Erie, PA and Jamestown, NY -- 90 miles SW of Buffalo so I remember that Spring comes much later there. We had about 2 weeks where the temperature got above 80 and people thought they were gonna die from the "sweltering heat".....it get's in the 90's by noon here and if we're lucky we don't get into the 100's...THAT's hot!

I get up in the morning and before I have breakfast I do my stairs, squats and abs work - then sometime during the day I ride my bike - I started out trying to get 5 miles done -- now I do no less than 15 and no more than 20 miles each time. I also walk and am trying to get some exercise DVD's added to my routine. I'm not in good shape by any means, But I have a lot of weight to loose, and it's going very slowly so I keep trying to keep what little weight I am loosing moving.

The more I exercise the better I feel (which is weird for me to say because I'm not a big exercise person) -- but it helps keep my mind off eating and everything else in the real world.

I'm trying to figure out a new veggie to try for the challenge....there isn't a big variety of different things out this time of year so I may just have to use an old veggie and cook it differently. I'm slightly "addicted" to spaghetti squash now..LOL -- I nver had it before starting Atkins, and didn't care for them to begin with but I really like it now! It's the changing tastebud thing I'm sure.

Hope you are doing well -- keep eating fried radishes!!! LOL

                                Re: Creeping Up The Rungs

I miss Sunny!!! If you are reading this, I'm so glad we've been talking daily - you are a true friend regardless if we are on Atkins or not.

I mowed the lawn today, it was cold and damp this morning so i turned the heat back on but by noon I had it back off and was opening windows.....we went to the veggie stand to get a new bunch of veggies for the week. I bought, lettuce, cabbage, jalapeno pepper, apples, tangeloes (for the hubs not me!!), a 7 pound bag of Roma tomatoes, carrots (for mom), cucumber, green onions and grapes (hubs again) - all together it was under $16.00. Then we went to Aldi and I got 3 dozen large eggs - .79 a dozen, chorizo, beef slices (for lunches), cheddar cheese, string cheese and 3 NY Strip steaks which we had for dinner tonight. Mom hasn't been feeling well so we took her steak off the grill and put it in a container - we'll have it tomorrow for lunch....fajitas maybe!!??!!

After my 3 pound loss on rung 2 I thought it was safe to go up another rung. I went to rung 3 today -- I've been missing nuts so I had 1/2 ounce of almonds before dinner - they tasted so good! I buy Blue Diamond no salt added whole almonds - another thing I didn't normally eat before Atkins. If I had nuts it was cashews or spanish peanuts but I find almonds have a wonderful flavor. I bought a bag of almond flour when I was shopping last week - there are a few recipes I'd like to try with it.

It's time for bed -- midnight is fast approaching and I may turn into a pumpkin if I stay up much longer.
