My neighbor (a weight watcher-fan who has been very critical of me, of course) told me (in the spirit of Christmas, I believe) that she had heard a nutritionist (gasp! an expert!!) on the radio say that while the Atkins diet is very bad, the Atkins for Life Diet is the best diet you could pick for long term health. Thought I would ask here what the differences between the "diets" were, since I haven't read Atkins for Life. Thanks

Atkins for life IS the atkins diet. It is the maintenance stage of the diet.

That's what I figured--what could this nutritionist be talking about!!! Or is this just more backtracking by the establishment!

As they do more studies and it keeps showing that low-carb is much healthier than the low-fat food pyramid that has been preached for a LONG time, they keep backtracking more and more. It is a shame that Dr. Atkins isn't seeing all this mainstream acceptance of what he learned some 30-40 years ago.

Thanks for asking the question, and as has already been stated, Atkins for life is the maitainance part of the diet. It is the part that you do for life once you have reached goal, so that you can stay at goal. It is also nice that the mainstream medical establishment, nutrionist etc. are finally beginning to realize what we have already discovered. We gladly accept them on board, but certainly don't have to have their validation for what we know to be good for us.
