Food fixation
YES I CONFESS I FIXATE ON FOOD!!!!
and you know what? ..rather than pretending it is not an important part of my life and trying to avoid it to loose weight ..I realized that for me anyway...embracing food in it's entire glory has helped me succeed so far ...
I know that when I was going through all my moments of freaking out ...trying to get this right ..people were kind enough to share their own experiences and sometimes someone said something that triggered me in the right direction. So if this helps then I have given a little something something back!
I have said this before and I will say this again ...
it is soo important to eat fresh food in a great variety when it is seasonally fresh and as close to the source as possible...Everything that goes in your body should count for something important..and I am not talking about just vits and minerals, I am taking pleasure as well (remember I love wine
)...
Food and it thought and preparation are a big part of my daily life. I don't "stock up" and sometimes I shop several times a week. I am as busy as anyone else ..trust me..and we do not have a huge income so I do budget... my priorities include making sure that when we sit down to a meal in this house it is a whole body experience ..of the best I can find.
Food is a top priority in my life and I personally think it as important if not more important that most anything ...including exercise ...if you do not fuel your body with good food nothing else matters ..because you become run down, grumpy, overweight and miserable ....I know!!! that is what brought me here in the first place.
Learning about foods, the history, the nuances, finding new recipes. Making new friends, new and healthier family traditions, through the adventure and quest for food is a wonderful thing!..food brings people together ...look at us here all caring and learning from each other? ..yes it is an obsession and in my minds eye like exercise it is a healthy obsession!
When you learn to make food a priority and learn to find and prepare the best of the best ..you actually save tons of money. and more time because your body is healthier you do not need to go to as many medical appts!!! I do eat well and buy the best I can find. But my food bills are extremely low.
some of the secrets I have found to save money, keep my weight down and gain a tremendous amt of satisfaction in my life is
1. I shop often for fresh items and usually (other than spices and condiments) buy only what I need for a couple of days. I find that I use what I have and rarely have to toss anything out. As I said I am as busy as anyone. But this is a priority to me so I do it.
2. I shop in "ethnic" markets, not only does this save me MASSIVE amt of money!!! It saves a ton of time to run into a tiny market, buy just what you need and run out the door. Instead of a huge grocery store where it becomes opportunity to purchase more than you need and takes forever to find anything. I get recipes, "how do you make this?" freebies for being curious, personal service and best of all new friends.
One question I have learned to ask when getting a recipe in these markets is "how much of this do you eat in a meal" WE EAT HUGE PORTIONS in the States (something we are hard pressed to hide) So asking this is a good way to gain perspective. If you ask about portions, you will be stunned at the cultural differences and really understand how we have gotten so fat in the US! little bits of lots of differing kinds of food actually keeps you thin ..how cool is that?
3. when you buy fresh healthy naturally low carb, unprocessed food and cook it yourself enjoying the aroma and the visual appeal as well as the flavor..when make every bite a conscious one, you eat only when you are hungry and stop as soon as you are content. You eat less. Period. Then save money while buying quality!
so yes I a fixated on food ...not just eating it ..but every aspect of it ..it is to me one of the most binding, sensual, sexy and fulfilling things you can do yourself and others ..so why not?
I gain more pleasure from cooking food, giving you a bite and watching your face as you savor my efforts to please you and make you healthy...than eating it myself!
