    Re: Crabby Cakes

That's funny, I would have thought that the breaded ones would have come out darker, I noticed when I made the Chicken Parm recipe that the chicken browned very quickly. Both ways look good - did you taste them both? any preference?

MY perference was the non breaded. Tony preferred breaded.

Well, of course the price is extraordinarily high---the restaurant needs to make a profit.

Depending where you buy it, 1 pound is $8.85 to 9.95 a pound. But I like the Jerry's concept---very little filler, so the crab cake tastes like crab.

Yea, I like mine with as little ingredients as possible added! I'd say they're making a profit! If you can get it for under 10 bucks a pound the restaurant is probably getting theirs for 5 bucks a pound! But then again, all seafood is usually way way cheaper to fix it yourself at home than to go out!

            Re: Crabby Cakes

Yup, it is cheaper to cook it yourself. But I've seen people waiting in a line going around the corner to get into Jerry's (so alot of people don't know this fact.) The only upside to the waiting is that Jerry will bring out a tray of mini-crab cakes to the people in line.

I can't eat crab because I have an allergy to them. But I had an auntie who used to make a crab casserole because making the individual cakes were a hassle for her: crab meat, a 1/4 cup chopped scallion and 1/4 cup chopped red pepper, mayo and an egg, throw into a casserole, dot with butter, and bake until golden brown on top. Whenever she had too many guests and too little crabmeat, she used to put slices of buttered bread on the bottom of the casserole, add a couple more eggs to the crab mixture, pile the crab mixture on top, and top it with triangles of buttered bread, then bake until it was all golden brown, lol.

Hey Megs, I could just go stand in line and whenever I get close to the door, I'll just move to the back again! LOL, maybe I could get enough free crab cakes that I wouldnt' even have to go inside~!

You know I find that alot of folks are afraid to cook seafood. They think its complicated! In fact IMO its just the opposite! Seafood is so quick and so easy I just can't see paying someone extra to prepare it for me!

                    Re: Crabby Cakes

Yup seafood is super-easy to cook!

When I was a kid, I used to watch "The Frugal Gourmet" show on PBS. I remember he talked about a seafood salad (shrimps, scallops, calamari) that was just boiled or steamed and some sliced raw onion and dressing with mayonnaise! He made a big deal out of it, because he didn't think it tasted good due to the mayo and proceeded to show some seafood salad with lemon juice, white wine vinegar and alot of other stuff. Anyhow, when I was slowly becoming a vegetarian, I did it by slowly dropping meat from my diet. The last time I bought a combo of seafood, I decided to try out that seafood-mayo salad. So I steammed the seafood, cooled it, added some sliced red onion, and of course enough mayo to hold it together. Chilled it in the frig and gave it a try. I don't know what the Frugal Gourmet had against mayo and seafood, but that seafood salad was very tasty!

When I finally snapped out of my vegetarianism, I tried it again. Regrettably, I used fat-free mayo (because I was still fat-phobic!). It didn't taste as good, but it was still passable, as long as I put some lemon juice and other stuff in it. Since I've been on Atkins, I've made it using the regular mayo. It's very good. The prep time is less than 15 minutes and the ingredients are simple: seafood, mayo and red onion.

Cool Heidi. I liked his shows. Yeah, he could get alittle obnoxious, but I still watched them. PS: I also watched them because I had a crush on Craig.
