  • I bought a pumpkin!

I bought a pumkin this weekend, so that gf's children can make a thing for halloween. Any ideas what I can cook / make using the actual pumkin insides?

Being british, I have never cooked pumkin before.

    What can I do?

With the insides themselves, all you can really do is roasted pumpkin seeds I think. They are a great snack (i buy them preroasted all the time) and very healthy. Here is a basic recipe, you can add any spices you like.

I don't know if the large pumpkins are good for eating, besides the seeds. I think the smallish pumpkins are better. I'm trying to think of what they call the smaller ones.

Aren't they called 'pie pumpkins' or 'sugar pumpkins'?

pumpinkg pie!!, just add 1 cup of cooked and mashed pumpking to your favorit low-carb cheese cake recipe, plus two teaspoons of cinamon, 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg, and dash or"clavo" ( sorry I can´t remember the name in English for this)

I assume its the picture in my avatar that made you think that? I took that pic myself when I was in Sydney last year.

oops, totally missed the jack o'lantern thing!

They typically aren't good eating. But you can eat the seeds. After you scoop out the innards, remove the seeds, rinse in water and put in the oven.

I wonder how they would be as chips/crisps....

                          That´s right Richt!

We use the seeds here in mexico to make mole verde. We toast them and blend them with green leaves like lettuce, spihach, green tomato, garlic, onion, salt and then pour the mole on chicken.

We also eat them just like that not2late, toasted with salt like chips.
