    Re: LIVER and ICE CREAM

I hated liver as a kid, but I love it now. Hubby still hates it.

Liver...either you love it or you hate it. I'd say I'm the latter

Since I don't eat liver I have no idea how to cook it, or what the flour would be for. But surely there must be lots of ways to cook it, without the flour.

        Re: LIVER and ICE CREAM

I cook my liver without flouring it too and it tastes no different from when I did flour it pre-Atkins!
But probably any cooked liver in a restaurant in UK would be floured like most other meats before frying so perhaps it would not be a good choice for eating out, Helena.

I LOVE LIVER, ALWAYS HAVE ALWAYS WILL. I JUST HAVE'NT FIXED IT SINCE I'VE BEEN ON ATKINS BECAUSE I THOUGHT I READ THAT THE CARB LEVEL WAS HIGHER IN LIVER AS OPPOSED TO OTHER MEATS. I ALSO NEEDED OTHER WAYS TO COOK IT. NOW THAT I SEE IT CAN BE FRIED WITHOUT FLOUR I'M THERE!

            Re: LIVER and ICE CREAM

I think liver is great if just tossed in a really hot pan and seared on both sides until it's barely cooked (or with wine and chili pepper). If it goes even a minute beyond the 'pink inside' stage, I find it gets pasty tasting and nasty.

Fitday has liver at five carbs per 100grams, so yes... higher than most meats.

              Re: LIVER and ICE CREAM

The carb amount is why organ meats, like liver, have a 4 ounce limit during Induction. But four ounces is a good amount, imo.

                Hi girls and boys

Because I have never even contemplated eating organs before, I've never bothered to look up their carb count. I always "count" meats as zero carbs, so I have inadvertently slipped up, yet again!

5 carbs per 4 oz serving is 5 carbs I wasn't counting for the last few days. And there is still some left, so having my last liver meal now to use it up.

You mean in the USA there is not a 'liver flavour' Ben and Jerry's? I mean if they make 'turtle soup' and 'vermonty python' flavours, why not?? LOL

I saw a special edition of ''Jelly Bellies'' jelly bean candy--LIVER flavor--on a morning or talk show, maybe it was the old Rosie O'Donnell Show. It was hard to watch them eat them. I could possibly starve before I ate liver again. LOL

Helena, My mom used to cook ours without flour. She fried it in butter with onions. It was good. We could use leeks instead of the onions, or not eat the onions if you want to save carbs.

Or use spring onions (scallions/green onions?) instead!

Once you move up to the nuts/seeds rung you could experiment with almond flour on your liver.

I've fried our chicken in that and it is delicious.
