I envy you southeners that can garden year round! I'm just drooling over seed catalogues that are spread around the house.

      Hello FBG,
Aero gardens are cool! Isn't it wonderful to pick your fresh herbs as your preparing meals. Love it!
Do you have the recipe for Atkins friendly Jalepeno Poppers? You can use some of you jalepenos in your garden to make a yummy appetizer. Here's the recipe-

      1.) 8 fresh jalepenos
      2).4 ounces cream cheese
      3). 8 slices bacon
4). Cut chilies length wise, scrape seeds.
5). Fill each half with cream cheese
6). Wrap each with 1/2 slice bacon, wrap from one end to other, tucking underneath.
7). Place on foiled cookie sheet
. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 25 minutes. If bacon isn't quite brown, broil untill golden.

      Enjoy!

        Re: Low Carb Gardening 2007

Hi gardeners. Anyone out there? It's about that time for us northeners to start cool weather veggies, so i thought I'd share....
I've decided to grow only what I et the most of....plus some tomatoes, cause what is summer without tomatoes. anyway, I found a couple of spinaches that say they are low oxalic acid.....the stuff that binds calcium. One of them is Viroflay. I forget the other. But it's a non-savoy spinach that grows to 2 feet wide and has 10" leaves.
!! Huge! My seeds should be here by next week. I'm still plugging away at cleaning up the bed that was inside the greenhouse that got blown down. Took on too much last year. I do have a bed of asparagus (that also needs weeding badly) and I'll grow broccoli, brussel sprouts, peppers, cukes and a tub of pumpkin (Seminole)

        What's everyone else growing?

Hey chicklady - despite the 1/4" of ice covering everything after the storm yesterday, I too picked up some seeds. Am building a new *kitchen garden* this year with raised beds and a *rabbit proof* fence. Found seeds yesterday for spaghetti squash and armenian cukes...that Spinach sounds nearly decorative!

by the way, love your babies!

Woodchucks - my front yard is a road map of tunnels. And hawks, yikes. Have noticed some really big ones in the fields lately.

I have Cuckoo Marans, Easter Eggers and Orpingtons....would like some more too and would have ordered from McMurray near me but they're having quite a problems with chicks lately....and my dh is like yours...thinks I have enough birds, lol.

still in the planning stage for my raised beds...zucchinis, eggplant, cukes, squash, tomatoes...maybe some turnips? And greens and tomatoes of course. Spring has not arrived here....*frown*

I am miffed. I went to my usual seed catalouge place, the one I used when I was in Mississippi because they ship glorious plants. AND THEY WON'T SHIP TO CALIFORNIA!

I had totally forgotten about that. I was going to get this.

Porcelain---try territorial seed. They have a nice selection of plants that came all the way across the country in perfect condition They're also 3 bucks a piece instead of 4 and tyou don't have to order any certain amount. Says they ship to the continental US. I was very happy with the mato and pepper plants I got last year. So was the woodchuck.

Jersey---- of course, our husbands are wrong I have been so tempted by the Marans; nice dark brown eggs. Had easter eggers all my life, until a couple of years ago----people didn't want to buy green eggs

It's California law. You can't import plants.
