  • Fajita Spice Mix

My BF loves Fajitas and eats them most weeks. He uses Old El Paso Fajita kit which comes with a spice mix. The info is:

Ingredients: Sugar, natural flavourings, vegetable powder (onion and garlic), yeast extract, salt, spices (pepper, cayene pepper), acids:sodium acetate and citric acid, colour:caramel.

    56g of carbs per 100g

I like to eat the chicken, peppers (green and red) and onion on its own as the tortilla is not allowed on the stage I am in. I'm guessing that the spice mix isnt great to eat either as the first ingredient is sugar.

I was wondering if anyone had a spice mix of their own that they have created that was more Atkins friendly?

    Re: Fajita Spice Mix

Here's a recipe for a Taco Seasoning Mix

    Taco Seasoning Mix

    2 tsp chili powder
    1/4 tsp salt
    1 tsp paprika
    1/2 tsp splenda (one packet)
    1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
    1/4 tsp garlic powder
    1 dash onion powder

Has some of the same ingredients as the Old El Paso, so may work for fajitas also.

      Re: Fajita Spice Mix

I haven't tried this recipe yet, but it looks like it would be really good:

      Chicken Fajitas

Juice of limes (small bottle of Real Lime Juice)
      12 T. olive oil
      2 tsp. oregano
      2 tsp. pepper
      2 tsp salt
      1 tsp. cumin
1 clove of garlic (diced) or one tsp. of minced garlic
3 tsp. coriander or 1/2 cup of fresh cilantro

Add three pounds of boneless, skinless chicken that has been pounded flat to the marinade. Let sit for at least three hours (the longer the better). For best results, cook on an outdoor grill.
