  • I need help finding something...

Alrighty, I have posted this a few weeks ago and I didn't get an answer. So I'll try again...

Where can I find the flax meal/flour? I can't find it in the grocery stores around me.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!!

I bought mine online from Bob's Red Mill. You may find something from Netrition - that site seems to have a little bit of everything.

    Good luck!

Paula-Thanks, I was hoping I wouldn't have to order online, but I will check out those sites.

Paula-one more thing, do you know if the flax "hamburger buns" that everyone raves about are induction friendly? I know DANDR talks about the flax seed and how you can eat it, but I don't know much about it.

        Thanks!

Hmmm, I see you live in Tampa. Is there a health food store nearby? You could probably luck out there. I know some members claimed they found theirs in the baking aisle, amongst the flours and such. Our Wal Mart has flax seeds in the vitamin section but they were much more expensive than buying online.

Netrition has $5.00 shipping if you spend so much so you could always stock up on flax meal (assuming they have it) and stuff like sugar free syrups, vitamins, etc.

No, I don't work for them.

Geneva, Wild Oats at the corner of Dale Mabry and I275 (there is a target there and a home depot--across the street from the Walmart).

Chucks Natural Foods carries it too...it's in Brandon on Parson's, north of Hwy 60 across from Babe's Pizza.

Umm, I think I got some at Walmart here too.

Thank you ladies, well I'm off to Wal-Mart in a few (after I leave work, been here 12 hours and counting). Rouge- If I don't find it at Wal-Mart I will go to Wild Oats, forgot all about them. When I lived in Colorado, my mom lived in that place.

              Thank you again!!!

                    Flax is limited on Induction.

It can be used as a daily fiber supplement with a limit of 1 tablespoon daily.
It can be used for the relief of constipation, you start with 1 tablespoon and increase or decrease the amount until your constipation is relieved.

If you want to use it as a food source, rather than a fiber supplement or a constipation reliever, then you wait until the On-Going Weight Loss phase. In that phase, flax seed is limited to 1 ounce, like the seeds and nuts.

Re: I need help finding something...

I thought flax was safe? There is a thread on the board that talks about flax, and the report makes it sound safe on induction? Now i'm confused. I have been eating a flax muffin daily with 1/4 cup of flax. Am I jeopardizing my diet?

Re: I need help finding something...

Flax is safe for Induction, but as I wrote the book gives specific amounts and conditions for its use during Induction.

If you look at my responses in the flax threads, I always note the uses of flax during Induction and the amounts it's to be used because people mistakenly believe flax is a "free food". It's not during Induction.

                        For daily fiber supplementation
Chapter 8: "I recommend that you take one tablespoon of psyllium husks daily. Be sure to select a sugar-free product. You can also take one tablespoon of coarse wheat bran or flaxseed meal."

                        For relief of constipation
Chapter 11: "If you are constipated, mix a tablespoon or more of psyllium husks in a cup or more of water and drink daily. Or mix ground flaxseed into a shake or sprinkle wheat bran on a salad or vegetables."

So there is a limit set forth in the book. Again, if you use the flax as a food, then the On-Going Weight Loss phase is the appropriate phase to do that. During Induction it's only used as a fiber supplement or as a constipation reliever in the amounts specified in the book.

I didn't realize flax was not that safe on induction. Wow, and all this time I have been searching for it (and found it in Wal-Mart last night). I will be keeping it in my cupboard then for a little while.
I was so looking forward to making the "hamburger buns" with it. Oh well....

Yeah, Wal-Mart tends to have it. If you have Whole Foods grocery stores, they have it. If you happen to find the whole seeds, you can use a coffee grinder to make the flour.

Flax is safe. But it's "safety" during Induction is like green beans, tomatoes, heavy cream and artificial sweetener....there's a limit to what you can have during Induction.
