  • Clumping Agent...?

    LOL ok I don't know if a clumping agent is what I need...

    But does anybody have any tips for making stuff stick together?
    My kids and I tried to make 'granola' out of roughly ground up almonds, butter, splenda and cinamon and put it in the oven for awhile. It tastes yummy but it's just flakey and we wanted it more clumpy... Of course it has to be healthy and Atkins friendly so I'm lost!
    We tried making balls before we put it in the oven but they fall apart as soon as we pick them up.
    Any ideas would be greatly appretiated!

    Started Dec 2005 and lost 105 lbs by mid 2006, maintained loss for the most part until 2009...then really let go & gained some back... lol

    For regular granola, sugar is used to make it stick together. Splenda doesn't have that "crystalization" property of sugar. Sugar alcohols, however, do. DiabetaSweet is isomalt, a sugar alcohol and allegedly can crystalized like sugar. But we all know that the sugar alcohols affect people differently, so be aware of this if you choose to use this product.

    Other "sticky" materials are proteins, like egg white or gelatin.

      Yeah sugar alcohols are the devil!! lol.

      I didn't think about egg whites or gelatin.. I'll give them a try this weekend.
