  • snack for legume lovers Chickpeanuts!

Ok so it is only five carbs worth of beans and that is not enough when you want a whole bowl! ..so here is an old earth muffin trick that I love ...
take a cup of more of dried chick peas..(or soy or other bean of your choice) then rince them well and put them in a pot with clear water and bring to a boil...boil like 3 min tun off and leave for an hour..then drain and leave until fairly dry on a towel....toss in oil and curry salt or chile salt or salt salt!....put on a baking sheet and bake at 350 until nut like (keep checking them and stirring them about every 5 min) it takes about 20 min and they can be stored in a airtight container in the frig...but are better fresh!...
I love these best with chickpeas but soy are good as well! lentils are yum but harder to do...
you can get more bang for your bean with this tastey snack!

    Love, Nursey!

The lupini beans in a jar I found a few weeks ago are good too. I had to soak them in water to get rid of the excess salt, but I really enjoyed them (3 net carbs per 1/4 cup---doesn't sound like alot of beans but looks can be deceiving!)

it is funny how at first you look at like a quarter cup of berries or beans and say ...what the ****?..then if you eat them one by one ..or spread out in a dish it is enough to satisfy!!!...I like the salty lupini beans as they are but it is not good for my BP to eat all that salt...we used to eat them as kids all the time!...the more spicey you make the chick peas the less you may want to eat...for me that is not true however ..I love me some spicy!!! :icondance :icondance

okay now I need to know about how much wasabi powder do I need to shake them in before I bake them?
I've been using 1T per cup of mayo to make wasabi mayo for the fish

I am going to try a tsp of wasabi powder and 1 tsp kosher salt and go from there...I love the POP of wasabi you could start with that..taste it plain and see if you can handle the heat plain....yum....chickpeas with wasabi I have go buy a bag on the way home!!!...

fyi chickpeas=garbanzos for those who are not aware.....

I love wasabi peas they are fried not baked but in the end who cares as long as they are crispy and snack like!..you can fry the chickpease and then top with salt I have done that as well!!!.....

fried? in a deep fat fryer? is the wasabi already on them or is it added as a caoting when they come out? do I boil them first to get them soft like peas?

no you sprinkle the seasoning on after here is my method for deep fried peas/beans

wash and sort the dry beans/peas....cover with water boil like 3 min...turn off and soak for an hour...drain and dry the beans or chickpeas...then get your oil hot enough to sizzle a pea (I never check the temp but drop one in and it should sizzle and fry) they only take a min or so so try a few test them for crispiness and when they are done drain them well and sprinkle or shake in a bad with seasonings!!!!....

you do not want the beans/peas cooked you want them to the tooth!...just barely softened like an underdone potato I guess

yeah they are pretty darn yummy so be careful and only make what you can afford to eat ...I make them pass them out and eat my own right then!!!...did you bake or fry then and what ratio of wasabi to salt?

                        salt?
I put them in a paper bag when they were fried and dumpes in a T of wasabi powder and shook it up. then burned my mouth from the temp heat testing to see how they were.

I think I will bake them next time to see if more powder will stick.
