Does anyone know if Shredded Coconut is the same as Desiccated coconut?

Not really the same. Shredded coconut is just shredded coconut meat. Dessicated coconut is shredded coconut without the moisture.

ok thanks, that must be why more korma went a bit wrong then! I couldnt find shredded and used the dessicated which made it really bitty. Is the shredded pieces bigger than the dessicated pieces?

I would guess so... but I'm not sure. Because the moisture is extracted, their volume should theoretically decrease (if they are shredded the same way).

ok, ive looked everywhere for Shredded Coconut with out any luck. Is there another name for it in the uk??

I don't think you can find shredded coconut that is not dessicated. I'm sure there's no such thing in Germany. You could shred coconut meat yourself, I suppose...

By the way, if I remember correctly, on American labels "shredded coconut" is the same thing as "dessicated coconut" in the UK (someone please correct me if I'm wrong with this one). So if a recipe asks for shredded coconut, it's probably dessicated coconut what is meant.
