    Re: Tea Drinkers?

Thanks guys. I did find a couple of tea companies in Olympia and will go check them out. The store does sell Twinnings but I think only in bag form.

My tea pot is really dusty so it will be fun to get it out.

Thanks for the link Meg, when they said to steep the tea for 5 minuetes I wondered if it didn't get cold if you added cream to it.

If you're brewing the tea in a cup, put a lid over the cup. The lid can be a saucer or a small plate. That will help the tea stay warm.

      Editing to add....
I've also brewed a cup of tea in an insulated travel mug----that keeps things warm too!

I'm so glad you are going out of the bag. I couldn't believe how the taste of the bag was part of the "tea" flavor until I went bagless.

You would add the cream to the tea when it's steeped and before you pour the tea in to the cup. Keep in mind that some studies show that adding milk or cream takes away the antioxidant benefits of tea.

Tell me about it! Some brands have that nasty bag flavor. however there are some brands that pack their teas in cotton bags.

I have a friend whose son-in-law is from Pakistan and he brought some of the tea his family grows there. What a HUGE flavor difference it is!

                How to Brew Persian Tea

Dec 4th, 2009 by My Persian Kitchen

Any Persian will tell you that they love to drink Chai, pronounced Cha-ee. Tea, in general, is what Persians drink in the morning, after each meal, and not to mention throughout the day. Additionally, the first drink that one if offered when visiting someone else’s home is usually tea. Iranians make tea in their own way which I will demonstrate in this post. Personally, I see this ritual as an art.

All you need is a nice teapot, loose tea, and a pinch of rose petals.

I like to use a mesh tea infuser to keep the leaves from going onto the cup. You don’t have to use one…

Place a couple of generous pinches of loose tea and one pinch of rose petals in the teapot.

                Add boiling water.

Cover and let steep for about 5 to 10 minutes. Persians will usually place the teapot on top of the kettle st it simmers on the stove in order to keep the tea warm.

Here comes the Persian way of pouring tea. First pour some of the hot tea into the cup to check its color. It must be somewhat dark. Then pour the tea back into the tea pot. This will do two things: 1) it will warm up the cup and 2) it moves the tea inside the teapot around so that color of the tea is even. If the color is light, let steep for a little longer. Then fill up one third to half of the cup with tea.

Pour hot water over it. And Voila! You have Persian tea!
Note, Persians always drink their tea in see through glass cups. This allows the person who pours the tea determine the consistency and color of the tea. A good Persian host will always ask his or her guests how strong or light they like their tea. Some people like their tea dark and strong, while others like it on the light side. I am a medium type of girl. The color that you see in the picture above is how I personally like to drink my tea.
I wished I had a nice set of pretty Persian tea cups to include in these pictures. What I am using is my mom’s favorite cup that she likes to drink her tea from when she comes to visit. Heaven forbid if she gets her tea in a mug. All **** will break loose…

Thank you, thank you. Awesome post. Mission, it looks as if your using about a tablespoon per cup. Is that pitcher a cup'ish?

Okay so I am going to go get some Earl Gray, loose leaf, lady Gray, loose leaf, and Chai. Rose petals might be an issue but if I go to a tea shop, they just might have some.

After this adventure, I am going to be the tea tasting queen

Numi Tea has a white tea and rose tea.

For herbal blends I really like the Tulsi brand.

My mom HAD TO drink tea in a bone china cup. Saucer was optional but a mug??? THAT would have been an abomination to the senses and NEVER, EVER allowed.

Yes totally great thread! Last fall I really started getting into tea and I am hooked. I LOVE white tea, it has a lighter taste plus more catechins, antioxidants, antiviral, any antibacterial properties than green tea or any other tea!
