It was a blessing to find the information I acquired; like Skinny; on this topic. I reached out immediately to my friends that had common health problems and weight stalls and they had the same results as me.
SO; I thought I would share it with my firends I have known here on the board for close to 2 years now, especially after reading the endless posts of weight stalls and bloating.....I had NO idea it would blossom into its own topic here on the board; BUT to have it scrutinized and debated has really thrown me for a loop. Like this Candida problem was somehow a scam to hurt others...come on NurseLady...get real here. This yeast has been overlooked for years by doctors; and medications prescribed for conditions that never healed or improved due to the yeast. The book The Yeast Connection has been around for quite awhile and doctors have been turning a deaf ear to it's existance. Believe me...it exsists in close to 80% of the population. The meds were just a huge bandaid to line doctors and phamacutical companies pockets, to so call "help" patients with their different ailments brought on by the yeast. I totally agree with all Skinny has said here on this thread ;because like her; I too have searched this topic for hours on end. I have seen the positve results in not only myself, but my family and friends. It has been a Godsend to me and I hope all of you out there with different health problems will hang in there; as I'm sure you ; too; will see positive results and a healthier body and mind! :hug

Take care and smile and Happy Holidays to all!

Missy this did not come from what your wrote this thread had nothing to do with you!...not that you or your story are not important...it has to do with skeptics and I happen to be one who believes the whole yeast theory is way overblown ...this thought is NOT TO INVALIDATE YOU!!! it is to express mine and others opinion that there have not been enough studies done and there is not enough info to prove this...I am disputing the whole yeast theory and still with all that has been sent to me ...believe it is overhyped diagnosis that is a blanket self diagnosis for a presumed illness that I am having trouble believing exists!...yeast infections can happen I do not dispute that but to say it is the cause of the long list of things that supposedly are cured by these restrictive diets...well I am not seeing but if you are!!! then more power to you this thread was not meant as a rebuttal to your success!!! I have read the book several times and a book is only as good as the sources there are a lot of good books...The Atkins plan is safe and healthy if done correctly but it is not a cure for the human condition it is a weightloss program! Dr Atkins believed a lot of unproven theories!...So do I!!! Just not this one...not so far.....but there are more things to read...and I have yet to see a lab slip that shows over growth of yeast then someone on a CAD then the final proof it cured the problem...The book The Yeast Condition has been around for ages and has time and time again been disputed and found to be a bunch unproven theories! as well that is not the best source to point to...I am real I think if I were not I would go along with this and not dispute it!

Oh my gosh, this thread is crazy!

Nurselady, I am also a nurse, and you should know as well as I do that antibiotics kill off natural flora in the intestines that cause an overgrowth of other "stuff"... Have you possibly heard of C. Diff? (For those who don't know what C. Diff is, it is a bug that takes over your intestinal tract soemtimes after a course of antibiotic therapy causing severe diarrhea.) And can you get rid of C. Diff without Flagyl? Probably, if you injest enough probotics. I'm not sure as I refuse to do research on something I already know, natural flora in the body is to regulate the bad bugs that live naturally in our body. If that balance is upset, some other bug will take over, why not yeast? Makes perfectly good sense to me. With such vague symptoms, people may think it's IBS, or gas, or their nerves. I would never have gone to the doc with those symptoms. Open your eyes, surely you have seen the ramifications of those with an upset of their natural flora, haven't you?

To address that you found a lot of the same symptoms matching different syndromes, have you look looked at a PDR lately? It has drug after drug after drug with the same side effects... of course there are many syndromes with the same symptoms!

Because these symptoms are not as obvious as say, a visible trauma, it is up to each individual to do their research to try to figure out to the best of their knowledge and present it to their physicians. Say, "I have these symptoms, I'm concerned it may be X, Y, or Z." And let him do the testing.

You were the one who went on a yeast treatment when you tested negative, sounds like sour grapes to me.

I never disputed the yeast post antibiotics!!! if you read what I wrote several times I said ...except for being immune suppressed or after a load of antibiotics...that is valid!! I agree there!!!....I am just not getting the whole "Yeast Connection" thing....

I think the misconception here is that I do not believe in yeast...impossible ...yeast is here!!! and after a load of antibiotics you can have a yeast infection!!!.....that said...read what I wrote and you will see my stand ....

No not sour grapes ...just curious on looker!.......I do not mind theories..but also being a skeptic is not being bad!!!....

          One more anecdote:

I talked to my doctor about it a couple of days ago, and she mentioned that it's starting to be talked about in the medical community. There are studies being done in research universities about it. She actually gave me the name of two doctors at the University of Pittsburgh who are studying it.

So, it can't be too much of a myth. See

          for more references.

The connection between fungus and chronic sinus infections has pretty much been validated. http://www.mayo.edu/comm/mcr/news_773.html

(if you google for "Systemic Yeast studies" you'll find plenty of case studies and studies, by the way, see: http://www.emedicine.com/EMERG/topic76.htm for an example of one)

Thank you knickknack for those links. :hug

I, like Missy and many others, know that this is real and that the overgrowth has caused many different problems for us. And by doing the CAD and taking the suppliments recommended that we have been able to free ourselves from the yeasties!!! I've only been on the diet for a week and have gotten amazing results, would be specific but that should be left for my journal or the women's forum! LOL

I am not saying this is the answer or cure for everything, but it sure has worked for me. And while I like discussing both sides of a subject, something about this being the first post to show up in this forum and the negative spin it has taken just sits the wrong way with me... :no

              Just my 2 cents...

              HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE :hug

Well if hearsay is goodsay then I talked to a lab tech who informed me stool cultures for fungus are only as good as the collector...he says that Poop is a great medium for growing yeast because as soon as it hits the air it is the fertile ground to drop a spore ...yeast is a rapid growing fungus and stools being the great medium ...well voila'....Brats thanks for that...I am thinking disputing yeast theories has been like saying there was no God!....I believe in yeast...what is NOT to believe in????....I am happy for those who feel better and still plan not to over look it...so far what I have read (and I have read ...) I am not convinced...I think the fact that the sypmtoms seem to be only evident in women (unless there are men out there with yeast?) is a huge issue...what is going on with us?....I am very concerned ...and never presume that because someone is a skeptic they do not care...heavens I care ...in fact I care soo much I am still trying to figure this one out!....who wants to see folks suffer?.....I am just skeptical and do not consider "The Yeast Connection" a great source of evidence....good luck to you all..see you soon! :wave
