if you are diagnoises hypothyroid you need to be taking your medication for the rest of your life. your doctor will monitor your levels and adjust the amount you take but something caused your body to stop producing this vital for life hormone and with being too low your body slows down and makes weight loss very difficult. if your level is in the normal range you should have no side effects from taking the medication. You will feel better as long as you have the hormone in your system in the normal range and when you stop it willtake a few weeks to start having new symptoms show up just like when you start taking it it takes a while for your body to get cranked up again.

      Jenny,

Have you tried posting your menus to have people look at them? Do you keep a food and BS journal? Include the times of day you eat, snacks included and your fluid intake. My blood sugars jumped around a bit when I first began but the did stabilize enough to produce a reasonable HmgA1C after four months on this program.

I, too, have hypertension, thyroid disease and was diagnosed shortly before this WOL with CHF. I'm Type 2 Diabetic and am controlled with insulin, oral meds and diet and I have RA and OA. I know about frustration and I understand the meds being costly.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

As frustrating as it is, it just may take some time before everything kicks in and are on the same page of music.

Just try to give it some time!!

Well, I decided to watch my calories as well as my carbs. I started last Tuesday, so let's see what happens in the next couple of weeks. I also started my gloucophage. I must say that is giving me nausea, vomiting and stomach distress, but I am trying to see if my blood sugar comes down eventually. I am eating about 1,000 calories and 15 gr of carbs. I track everything using Fitday PC. In another week and a half I should see if there are any changes. Thanks for being such a support for me.

Well, a week ago I got up and my blood sugar was 190 when it had been coming down little by little each day and I had no idea why. I got so depressed that I went on a binge and gave up and hated myself. I forgot that if you are sick or something the blood sugar goes up. I had been having terrible pain in my neck and right arm. Maybe arthritis and the way I sleep or something. Any way, my bs today is 290 in the morning, but I am back on my diet. My pain is still there, but I took Tylenol to see if I feel better throught the day. I am so tired of this daily struggle to survive ! I was down to 249 and now I am back to 270 in a week. Back again trying to lose the weight. Thanks for your help.

welcome back I just saw your 1000 cal limit that is way to low for your weight on Atkinsas you use up many of the aten cals just to get the food from your mouth to your needed energy molecule and the cals in the fiber are unusable by humans.

Try eating your normal induction for a few days while you adjust back to your blood sugars being lower and see what happens that big gain was the restoring of your glycogen reservers with water and you should be shedding most of that in the next couple of days.

Hang in there you can do this and your future life depends on managing the blood sugars as it is the culmulative damage you do from yrs of too high BS that causes the organ failure, blindness and amputations of elederly diabetics.

              Happy low carbing.

ya if go on such a starvation diet your bode will stop burning for sure and freak so I wouldn’t monkey around trying to invent your own fad diet when this one works well, but it only works if do it by the book, cant low fat it, cant low calorie it, that’s when we see people falter.

Send us some menus and we'll critique it to help you get on track but if you don’t do something in end you will pay big time and it is sad to pay when there is a way to keep it in check.

I too gain weight fast too if go off, we are so carb sensitive….gained ten lbs on holidays and have lost 8 of it in 5 days so know by end of week will have lost the whole weight,am enjoying induction as don’t get tired like when upped my cars. I will never be able to eat like other people eat and when you know that and accept it you less battle with yourself. Wonder if you have come to that yet>

Oh yes, I know that I will never be able to eat like other people, but I am fine with that as long as I can low-carb and feel well. As long as this way of life can control my constant weight gain and other health issues I have. I have to go to the store today to buy olive oil and bacon which I forgot today. I don't usually eat bacon, only once in a while, and this is the time. My menu will be:
Breakfast: 2 eggs fried in butter.
                  2 slices of bacon
1 cup of decaf coffee with 1 oz of cream and 2 packets Splenda

Lunch: Lettuce salad with 1 Tbsp of oil
                  6 oz of chicken

Mid day snack: Decaf Coffee with cream and Splenda

                  Dinner: Salad with olive oil
                  6 oz chicken
                  1 cup green beans

                  Before bed: Atkins shake

The rest of the week is about the same, changing chicken with steak or fish.

Thanks for your opinion on my menu.

I've lost where you are jenny, induction......what level.
if induction the shake and bacon is probably not wise, bacon has sugar unless can get sugar free but nitrates aren’t in program in induction and shakes cause cravings and stalls for most people, but cant recall what level you are at.
That not really low calorie then its low carb.see how you cant mix the two or it won’t work
I thought I read you said low calorie, I have not had shake so do know what is in it but some of the frankenfoods will boost BG up with the glycerol and sugar alcohols so will have to test lots I guess.
if you stuck with this for two weeks, no shakes, no bacon, i dont see why you wouldnt lose, staying under 20 gr of carbs a day, sounds good to me

Well, I forgot to buy the bacon, so I have not had it and I will not have the shake. No, what I said is that I was doing low carb and also trying to control my calories at the same time, but I was doing around 20 carbs a day and about 1400 calories a day. I have such a difficult time losing weight it is rediculous !!!

Yes, induction again, one more time. Thanks.

well if you meant 1400 you made a typo. We were just going by what you posted up above.
How are you doing with your exercise part of your Atkins that can help your blood sugar issues and your weight loss if you are low carb Atkins eating.
If you need a late night snack for AM blood sugar control the shake would be fine but real food would be better some fat some protein and a bit of carb would be best.

just to explain why i said no the shakes in induciton is it creates cravings for so many in induciton, I would say wait till after two w eks is over, even walking is good to get the bg buring and metbaolism jacked up, even slow walking if not used to anything.

No, what happened was that I started to keep it around 1,000 calories, but just could not and continued with trying to at least not go over 1500. My excercise part is non existant at this time. I think that on top of everything I am a bit depressed, as I don't want to go out of the house or do anything. When I have the gloucophage it gives me a lot of gastric problems and I have incontenence issues and don't want to leave the house because I am afraid of having a problem outside the home. I am just a total mess.

sounds icky, have you had an assessment by a psychiatrist regarding the depression, maybe its time for some meds, there are also treatments for incontinence available as that too is a royal pain, then if not leaving house, glucophage issues should pass in few weeks, walk lots up and down your stairs or your rooms and being a movement that body is not used too, the foreignness of moving will create a higher metabolic rate for your body, on winter days I am lazy in cold so do things in my house, run the stairs etc.till I have done 100.
I wouldn’t watch calories at all as they don’t go hand in hand with this program and not in induction as need to eat when hungry or will blow the program.

if after trying it a few times(like the textbook program not your own developed one) :hug and its not working some people have told me South beach works, only problem there is they have lots of low fat thus they have hi sugars and that’s not what a diabetic needs.

Well, I am back into the life of LC. I had been very depressed and was not doing the diet at all. I gained 40 lbs. I can never gain 5 or 6 lbs. I am back on Induction today. My blood sugars are very high and I had to get my medications again. I hope to have them controlled soon. I have the feeling that I have done more damage that what I can see. Went to buy the Actos and it cost me $180 for 30 pills, or $6 for each pill. I hope the my BS is under control before the end of the month. Wish me luck and courage to continue. Thanks.
