Re: PLEDGING FLIGHTS *** A Stair Climb Challenge

myjack finished blackpool tower today. he's moving right along! i still think it's funny how he just keeps track all day long. he is moving right on up to the seattle space needle. 78 flights.

OH SALLY! I HAVE TO TELL YOU!!!!
we watched this national geo. special tonight on skyscrapers. guess which one they hightlighted? THAT'S RIGHT! PETRONAS TWIN TOWERS!!! i was amazed to see what went into the construction. do you know that it takes only 70 seconds to go from ground level to the top?!!!! and the elevators are double car meaning they are 2 stacked on top on one another. when you go into the buildking you can get on the elevator there and go to any odd number floor. if you wish to go to an even number floor, you take the escallator to the second floor and get on the elevator there. they did that because they would lose too much space in the center of the building.

the ground that the towers are on was very unstable ground so they had to put concrete pilings down in the ground 393 feet! the pumped concrete for 52 hours 24/7 and at one point it started to rain very heavy. that will ruin the mixture they had to use so the whole project was covered by what looked like a huge circus tent. it was fancinating!

i had to giggle at one part, a very quick glance showed a guy walking up the stairs that went from floor to floor. when i saw it, i yelled out, THERE I AM! PASSING SAL!!! lol

it took 6 years to build the towers. it would have normally taken 8 but the officials wanted it done in 6 so to speed the project, 2 different crew were hired. one for each tower. they competed for bragging rights on who finished their tower first.

it was very cool to see the project that never slept! that thing in the center is the space bridge. it was built on the ground then hoisted up. the crane works got hit by ligntening a couple times while they were lifing it. the space bridge was designed so that if fire or some sort of terroritst attack were to hit, people could have safe and faster passage by going from one building to the next.

Re: PLEDGING FLIGHTS *** A Stair Climb Challenge

Cool Jimmie! I'd love to see that documentary. Maybe it'll hit Nat Geo prog or Discovery here in Europe. Also good to hear that they at least thought about terrorist attacks too. Glad you noticed me as you flashed by! (winks) But...wait a sec... if you do flights every other day, as I seem to remember you do... I may just manage to squeeze past you again today! Hey! this is great incentive to do a few extra flights! I won't say "race you to the top" though... would need that 70 sec elevator for that!!!

Thanks, Christine. Anything to make this rear of mine smaller. lol I'm a little disappointed that I can only go up twice before my calves hurt. Hopefully in a few days, I can at least double that.

The first day I started, I pushed and pushed myself and did 150 steps. My legs turned to jelly and I hurt SO bad that I almost decided to just give up After a few days, I started breaking up my stepping, and I'm doing quite a bit more now. You can do it! It's just hard when you first start. I know it's going to take me a LONG time probably to work my way up to the big mountains!

For doing as much as you did today. It's a start!
