    Re: KickAss TriAthalon (2) Sign-Up

Yeah! Jimmie came through! She says there are 7920 stairs in a mile! So that means I have to do how many steps? OMG! Lyssie, you are a crazy woman for sure! I will do my level best!

25 x 7920 stairs for anyone who was curious! It may be easier to count it by flights, yah think? Just divide the 7920 by the number of stairs in the flight you are climbing if you are doing it the old fashioned way ike I am (meaning no gym equipment)

      lets make sure of something.

jacks figures are based on 15 steps per flight. there are 7920 STEPS to a mile, that would be 528 flights.

as hg says, if the flights you are using have only 13 steps, like the ones to my basement, the flight number would be come out to 609 flights.

        Re: KickAss TriAthalon (2) Sign-Up

Great clarifying Jimmie! i have 15 stairs on both levels of my house so it works out to be the same for me for both sets.

I gotta say I am so looking forward to starting this challenge, but I am rethinking the swimming leg of my triathalon. The lane swims at our pool are only once a week and I may have a hard time getting there for the time they are open. So I was wondering if wogging would count towards mileage? Or does it have to be running?

I so need this challenge! I am loving how it is making me look at my body, my house and all aspects of my life to organize time for exercise! Thank you Lyssie for running this! My aim is to finish this challenge, but even if I don't, I know it will help with a lot of things I wanna work out. Thanks!

                Re: KickAss TriAthalon (2) Sign-Up

wogging, walking, running, hopping, skipping, all count towards mileage. For the stairs thing, since you're doing real stairs vs. Stairmaster, perhaps you should only have to do 20 miles instead of 25. The general consensus is that real stairs are harder than stairmaster stairs...and even I would tend to agree with this.

                Anyway. TOMORROW'S THE DAY!! YAY!!!

                  Hi Lyssie

For the stairmaster or step machines - is it still 50 flights for a mile?? I'm sure thats what we used last time

                      Re: KickAss TriAthalon (2) Sign-Up

Cool! 20 miles instead of 25? Alright, I am up to it. It will be more time consumming doing it on real stairs than on a machine since I have to go down before I can go back up! LOL But I will keep really good track of my flights to make sure I meet the 20 miles. Thanks Lyssie!

So that is 20miles x 7920 stairs/mile divided by 15 stairs per flight = number of total flights of *real* stairs. this comes out to 1056 fights of stairs.

umm... you were missing a 0.. it's 10560 not 1056... *20 not 2.. But if we're going off what Jane said - 50 flights per mile, then it would be 1000 flights instead of 10560... and then Jane and I would be doing 1250 flights. Yes yes??

                          Re: KickAss TriAthalon (2) Sign-Up

last time it took me about an hour to do 200-300 flights - so 4-6 miles per hour is about right! it all depends what program I do it on!!

If it's not too late, I would like to join!

                            I would do the following:

                            stairclimber: 25 miles
                            bike: 100 miles
                            jogging: 30 miles

I already did an hour on the stairclimber this morning for an hour. It listed me at 330 flights.
