    Re: February Mix-It-Up Challenge

Everyone is doing a great job "Mixing it up"

I did an hour of yoga yesterday (Sunday). I'm pretty sore this morning from the race on Saturday. I'm going to TRY to go do something at lunch hour. They have a strength training class today if I can make it. Tonight I have class. This school thing interferes with my exercise.

      Re: February Mix-It-Up Challenge

Looks like a great plan for the week, Alexa. I know kickboxing is your current favorite, but are you enjoying getting back to other things? I'm eagar to start back up with Body Pump....

Good for you, Joy -- you've already gotten in two kinds of exercise for the week. Is it your hip that's bothering you from the run?

I learned something today about mixing it up.... I "power walked" for a little over an hour yesterday, and today, I'm really feeling it in my outer thighs/saddlebags! You'd think that since I run a lot, a walk would be a piece of cake. But clearly, my body felt the difference. When I do my walk breaks when I run, it's a slow-to-moderate pace with small steps. Yesterday, I walked at a good clip and took longer strides. And today my saddle bags are feeling it -- which is a good thing. Lord knows that's a target area for me... makes me think I ought to walk more often.

Let's keep mixing it up, ladies and gent.

        Re: February Mix-It-Up Challenge

Adena, no, not my hip. Other parts, like my quads and my core of all things. Shoulders. It's already starting to lessen since I went to the strength training fitness class at lunch today and worked a lot of it out.

So, I've already got my 3 done for the week. WOOHOO.
However, i won't be taking the rest of the week off!

I just got my official chip time from the race 1:49:20, which is 11:43 pace. WOOHOO.

Oh, I've noticed that when I do power walking, I feel it in totally different muscles. More quads and ESPECIALLY in my hip flexors. So, a good power walk will probably help your running too!

Ditto on the walking! I used to think that walking wasn't worthwhile exercise for me (ya know, because I'm so "buff". Ha.) but it really does target different muscles than running. ESPECIALLY walking on an incline, whoooheeeee!

Tonight I'll be doing a cardio warmup (10 minutes on the bike or treadmill) and then hitting the weight room for UPPER BODY strength training.

Yep - though I've been neglecting bodypump a lot so it was HARD! My weights have gone right down again. I am loving the kickboxing, it is a great reason to other things - run, pushups, squats, weights, skipping, everything - because it will all help me get fitter and get better and get belts I think having a strcuture like this is really helping me because I was getting kinda bored.

RUnning does hurt - I walked 6 miles on Saturday (in heels, d'uh) and I can really feel it in my waist.

Joy - congrats on a great time!

Alexa I think the kickboxing is a great workout. If you are lifting your own body weight, that is strength training too. It just isn't necessarily pumpin iron!

Okay, I did an hour of spin class tonight WOOHOO

                Re: February Mix-It-Up Challenge

Joy, I told you before, but that is such an awsome time for the 15k... you are getting your speed back again. Remember, that's the pace you used to run (but for shorter distances)? I didn't really think about the power walking that way, but I'm definitely going to mix it in more often. Good job on that spin class!

Julie, I thought the same thing about walking. I mean, jeez, I'm so "buff" (ha) that I can do a marathon. What's a little walk? Apparently, my saddlebags felt differently. Anyway, I know you're sick, so if you only get in 7 different types of exercise this week, we'll let you off the hook this once...

Alexa -- 6 miles in heels?! Silly girl! Next time wear those clunky running shoes on your grand home tour... fashion be damned! I want to give kickboxing a try... since we both love Body Pump, I trust your taste in classes.

I went to spin this morning -- I need to run tomorrow for my third exericse.

                  Re: February Mix-It-Up Challenge

4 mile run in under 48 minutes this morning. It was kinda cold...45 degrees. Very dry too, my lips started cracking. I'm a bit dehydrated, though I don't know how that's possible...I drink at least a gallon of water every single day.

Going to try to make it to yoga today at lunch. I missed power yoga last night

                    I know, stupid, huh?!

Kickboxing is GREAT! I am really enjoying the challenge and it's good fun. Give it a go if you can - everyone!

Joy - yep you're right I hadn't thought of it like that.

Checking in today as might not get the chance tommorrow:

                    Sat - walked 6 miles - DONE
                    Sun - REST - DONE
Mon - Bodycombat and bodypump - Had to work late so did bodypump and extra bits
                    Tues - kickboxing - DONE
Weds - Run and homebits G- KICKBOXING
Thurs - REST - Run and homebits
Fri - Kickboxing - Might run

Had to swap some days around.

So kickboxing, running, homebits and bodypump = 4. Also lots of skipping here and there which is knackering.

Great run, Joy! Sorry about the cold, though... I've been wimpy about running outside lately now that I've gotten a taste of warmth. I'm doing a half on Saturday morning, though -- so I might be stuck in the cold, like it or not...

Alexa, great job this week -- and you didn't let schedule changes keep you from getting in your variety. You just "mixed it up" even more -- good for you!

Jules, right back at it, even after being near death yesterday, huh? Good for you.

Well, I have to get in something else tomorrow or I'm in default on my own challenge (the week ends on Friday). I was going to run today, but decided I wanted to be home this morning with the kids for Valentine's... I'm going to the gym in the morning. For sure.

So far this week I've run (a half marathon). Not sure what's on the agenda for tomorrow, but I'm going to the gym to do SOMETHING!

Have a good, varied week, guys.
