Re: PUMP UP THOSE PECS! November Push Up Challenge

Always is right. There are all kinds of modifications. The stair ones are challenging-more so than the knee ones so if you want to progress towards regular push ups. Then just go down a stair as you get stronger, until you are at ground level. Also you can do a regular push up on the down and a knee one pushing upwards to make some progress. This month I am continuing with the perfect push ups but on one set will throw in a low stairs push up because I think it is a bit more challenging. My long term goal is a straight set of 20 guy push ups. Its, um, a very long term goal.

Re: PUMP UP THOSE PECS! November Push Up Challenge

Hi everyone, I did try this one sometime last summer but gave up This time I will keep going! Aways has the right idea
Just a note for anyone with back or knee problems (or who worry that they won't be able to participate because they feel they can't DO a pushup) - any type of pushup is better than NONE! Particularly for those with back or knee issues, you might start by doing pushups against a wall, a countertop, or standing at the bottom of a staircase and then pick out a stair to put your hands on and do them on that... maybe by the end of the month-long challenge you will be able to work down to a lower step!
So here goes, put me down for 300. I've already done my 40 min. of yoga which included plank position, so, pushups shouldn't be that hard right? Starts Sunday!

Re: PUMP UP THOSE PECS! November Push Up Challenge

Ok, I'm a little gung-ho! I did 10 stair pushups just now using the 4th stair from the bottom. I had to pause and hold #7 at the top to catch my breath but then finished the last 2. Then when I sat down here to post it, I realized it's not Nov. yet!!! So now I know that I CAN do at least 10, lol.

I'll keep reading the posts then start for real on Sunday

Re: PUMP UP THOSE PECS! November Push Up Challenge

Can a guy join this challenge? I am trying to turn over a very big (HUGE) leaf and exercise more often. I would like to join this pushup challenge if it's okay.

I want to set a challenging goal for myself of 3,000. Time to work the guns and chest.

Re: PUMP UP THOSE PECS! November Push Up Challenge

I keep telling myself I need to get up and go to the gym or go for a walk before work, but I have yet to do so. At least I can do this at home. Shooting for 50 in the am and again at night. Hopefully the creaking and popping noises with each pushup will go away soon!

Re: PUMP UP THOSE PECS! November Push Up Challenge

LOL, I know what you mean. One of my shoulders tends to pop a little for the first ten or so each time I do them, but it isn't painful at all and quits after those first few.

I am with you on the gym thing - once I finished college, I have joined a gym numerous times and fully intend to go, but rarely actually get there. I really LIKE being at the gym and I enjoy exercise, so that isn't the issue. It is just hard once I get home from work to make myself change clothes, pack up a bag and leave the house AGAIN to go to a crowded gym - and so I end up rarely going.

I finally quit trying to go that route, accepted that it just is NOT going to happen, and instead have worked on coming up with things I can do at home. Got a treadmill (not using it enough, but some) and started with pushups and squats this past month. Been watching for a used weight set and will purchase one in the next few months. Picked up some exercise bands the other day also. I want to have a variety of things around to choose from.

Re: PUMP UP THOSE PECS! November Push Up Challenge

I'm not sure what I got myself into! I did 70 pushups (one set of 30, two of 20, on my knees to be safe, though I was doing them "guy-style" a couple months ago), and that was definitely to EXHAUSTION! Not only do my pecs and arms hurt today, but my abs hurt, too! I must have been holding them tight enough? Or I did something wrong...

Re: PUMP UP THOSE PECS! November Push Up Challenge

Were you straining to do those and holding your breath? That might account for sore abs...

I signed up for 700 also - I'm thinking if I do pushups every other day, that is about 15 days of pushups in November. I would need to do 45 to 50 each session in order to reach 700 by the end of the month. If you think of it that way, that is quite a bit less than the 70 you did in that one session... so you oughta be able to reach that goal!
