              Ok, so when one starts doing crunches, is it better to do them every day, or every other day, to give your abs a rest, and help the muscle fibre build itself when healing? Also, I'd better up my goal!!

                    Fancy - I haven't read up on these things in a long time, but if memory serves and theories haven't changed much over the last few decades since I bothered with such things, LOL, to just tone and firm, one would aim for a lower number of reps done numerous times a week without any added weight. To actually build larger muscles, I think you would do a harder workout/more weight used/more reps to stress the muscle fibers more intensely and then skip a day or two in between sessions to allow the muscle fibers to rebuild and add a little mass.

                    That being said, I believe most women (and some men, too) would struggle to add a lot of mass/muscle bulk without intentionally trying to do so, especially if they are not adding extra weights to their exercises over time. There will be some muscle building, and they will definitely firm up and become more defined and stronger in any event with regular exercise. So there probably isn't too much to worry about in regards to accidently bulking up ab muscles more than you might want if you are meaning to trim your midsection and firm up the muscles there. A lot of women used to avoid weight machines, etc, for fear they would bulk up accidently and look more 'manly', but with rare exception this is an unnecessary fear.

                    Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

                          Oh, I'm not Norman, I was wondering if Norman had some commentary to add on this subject. He is currently bodybuilding, so I know he is more aware and up-to-date on this topic than I would be.

                          But anyways, hope that helped a little.

                          I will post some more ab work on Wednesday or Thursday. My back is extremely touchy, so I am only doing sets midweek and weekend (2x weekly) to give my back a thorough rest in between ab workout days, which seem to aggravate it somewhat.

                                Oh good grief aways2go. Sorry about that, I wondered why you had a question mark after "Norman" Anyway, I'll be doing my abwork everyday, whether it's crunches or my yoga workout. I don't know how many "crunches" I do in the 30 minutes of yoga, and part of the workout is leg lifts which work different ab muscles, I really must count them next time
