  • Cool(?) Running for the week of June 26

AHEM....perhaps we need to rethink the topic for this thread now that the dog days have arrived??? There ain't NOTHING cool about running right now unless you're running indoors under the ceiling fan!!

I just finished my 10 miles in the heat and humidity .. I am wiped out! My body is screaming for protein!!! So we're headed out shortly to eat...

I burned 989 calories, 15% body fat. Sure am lovin' my New Balance 1221s ... they truly are a treat for my feet!

Now, if I could only find a way to lift these loose toe nails off .. ugh .. not a pretty site at the beach! :help

    Have a great Sunday everyone!

Look at your new pic girl I love it you sure are toned , Betty are you gunna fly during your Marathon.

I went for a longer run then usual really pushed my limits and Jogged for 78 minutes I managed to go 5 miles which was my goal. My times were definately not impressive but, I did it and that's all that matters. That's 8 km on the nose so I am very close to doing 10 kms YAY.

I am dripping wet and tired my legs are like jellow but, I feel I really accomplished something.

Good Morning Everyone!!! I got in my 5 this morning, it is getting easier every day. I am with ya on the heat Betty. Even at five am here in the Lone Star State I come in the house dripping. It is insane, I wonder if we have anyone from Arizona? Awesome job on your long run Sarah, that is amazing.

Jim's post last week about seeing the deer prompts me to ask....

What do you see when you run?
I see a hord of ducks and at least one cotton tail every moring.

What do you see when you run?
Alligators, herons, cranes, woodstorks, roseate spoonbills, lizards, snakes, armadillos, vultures, woodpeckers, ducks, geese, rabbits, deer, egrets, osprey, eagles, turtles, frogs.

Lots of perverts who honk and wolf whistle at a 50 year old woman, then pass me up, look back in their rear view mirrors and say to themselves, "My goodness, she could be my MOTHER!"

*laughs* You're too funny, Betty. Upper body weight day for me. The heat and humidity are still obscene here too. Over 40C.

I Rolled my ankle when it rains it pours I have been doing sooo well and all it took was a stupid little rock and I twisted my ankle. DAMN IT any how. It doesn't usually take me too long to get back at it. This is an ongoing injury and one of the reasons I run on a treadmill. I have rolled it probably 20 times since I was 13 so It's so loose now it doesn't take long to go back to normal. It's the initial shock that suck.

Take care all as of now I am very MAD!!

HEAT? HUMIDITY? What is 40C in fahrenheit?? Just curious... Wanna switch? OMG, its BRUTAL here. I just finished 6 grueling miles. Thank heavens I work for a company with a gym and a shower!! Holy cow, thought I'd die. It was cloudy, but oh so oppressively humid.

After yesterday's 10 miler and today's 6, I am definitely taking a rest day tomorrow.

40C is about 110F give or take. Sounds like we get the same kind of humidity here in southern Ontario in the summer as you do in Florida. Like breathing liquid air. I may even run at 5:30 tomorrow morning instead of 6:15 at this rate.

Sarah, hope you're ankle will be better soon. Having had lots of injuries the last several months, I can so relate. That is the great thing about cross training though. When I couldn't run, I could cycle and swim. When I couldn't swim, I could run. I still can't quite cycle, but swimming and running are in! I suppose that's what happens when you discover all this stuff in your forties like I am!

                    110F?? WOWZER!!

Our temps never go above 90, but the humidity is brutal. To me, I can handle the heat, but that sauna air makes it a bazillion times more difficult. And there's no way I can keep my HR in the right zone. My body is just working hard to cool itself enough!!!

Well, true runners don't let weather stop 'em!! Daggone it, I'm gonna continue my trek of 1000 miles, rain, shine, humidity or else!!

Friday was the first time I've run any distance since I returned. I went with a guy from work.

It was hard, and I made it about 24 - 25 minutes. I don't even think it was 5 km, but I'm not sure of the distance (he kept going, so I'm thinking it wasn't quite far enough for him).

Today we went again. Different route, lots of hills, and 20 C with a bit of a breeze in spots (felt like hotter in some places). He said I was doing better, and the pace was faster than Friday, surprisingly.

Went 30 or more minutes this time, with the last steep hill my only "cop out" - I walked briskly, and then continued with the run. Thankfully, I seem to be improving.

Chiropractor today; physiotherapy tomorrow. Hate the physiotherapy - not challenging enough - seems to be made for people who have absolutely no strength at all, or who never exercise.

Rest day for me. 16 miles in the past two days and my bones need a day off.

I'd say you need a rest, Betty. I started week four of my 10K training schedule. This is an 'easy recovery week' in the program so it was a nice 50 minutes today. The air is worse today than yesterday and my lungs were feeling it. Have a great day everyone!

I'm still a wreck but down 1 more pound to make me at 212 so I am pretty happy about that how awesome. I hope it keeps going for a while I'm on TOM and losing how cool is that.
