2.25 miles this morning, with a new personal best time of 25:50. I wasn't even trying to run fast. I actually wanted to do 3 miles, but pooped out at the last second before starting the final loop. I was actually pretty impressed with my time considering I wasn't really pushing for it.

Re: Cool Running for the week of July 17, 2005

I've been MIA from this thread for too long. I haven't run since last Thursday and since the Saturday before that. Talk about frustrated. I woke up at 4:30 this morning, was gonna run and let DW talk me out of it. I told her a few minutes ago never to do that again. If I'm gonna go run, I gotta go run. Life is really getting in the way. But I have been doing some strenuous landscaping work, so I'm still getting exercise.

I'll be racking up the miles again soon, I just have to make the time to fit it in. Period.

There is a race I want to run tomorrow but I don't think I'll be able to. And they have a superheavyweight division. Which is over 225, what the heck am I? A super-super-super heavyweight. LOL But I think I'd be able to place in the division maybe. Not many big guys can run. I need some heavy negotiations tonight. Pun intended.

I feel like quite an amateur next to all of you, but I'm still getting one foot in front of the other, and getting out there.

30 minutes at lunch with the guy from work who is way more experienced than I am, but he puts up with me, anyway. It's probably about 7 km - I really don't know the distance covered - seems to change the route constantly - keeps me with him - because I'd get lost and never make it back to work, otherwise.

Yesterday, the instructor at the gym set me up a program mostly with resistance tubing, to try and get my shoulder back ready for military training (if it were up to me, I'd be back at it, anyway, regardless of the opinion of the physiotherapist).

Great job, CM!! 7k is no small feat!!

Glad you're back on the thread, Jim ... I know what you mean when life gets in the way of running ... But I know you'll be back on course soon!!

I finished 6 grueling hot/humid/intense miles today at noon. OMG, at about the 3.5 mile mark, I felt nauseas, but fought it off .. I hadn't drank enough water before the run and I guess I underestimated the impact of the heat index which was well over 100 ... Obviously, I've been drinking nonstop this afternoon .. trying to get rehydrated!

Anyway, that gives me 16.2 miles for the week thusfar .. well on the way toward my regular weekly goal of 30-35 miles.

5.5 months until the half marathon ... NO SHIRKING NOW!

Jim-- Glad to see you back!! Does your wife know how important your running goals are to you? I know she is very pregnant so we will give her some slack, but you need to let her know she should be pushing you out the door instead of talking you into staying. My husband is my biggest support. Besides you guys I don't talk to any adults (hazard of being a stay at home mom) so he really works hard to give me encouragement and let me know how proud he is. I don't know what I would do without him.

Re: Cool Running for the week of July 17, 2005

Did 50 minutes on the elliptical and burned 570 calories. Once again, my heart rate went up relatively quickly, before I even started the alternating high intensity stuff. Got my heart rate up to 167 during the high intensity spurts.

Does anyone know if the quicker increase in heart rate could be the results of me doing this high intensity stuff? I'm just always curious about the changes in my body's response to anything I do.

Yes, the harder you push, you can expect a higher HR. Stands to reason. I also notice mine is really HEAT RELATED .. today was an extraordinarily hot day and I was fighting to keep my HR under 180 ...

Some days are just plain tougher than others. Today was BRUTALLY HOT. I must have masochistical tendencies...why else would a middle aged woman fight the intense FL heat and humidity for an hour and 20 minutes at noon?

Well, what better way to get back in the swing (even though it's only been a week) than to run a race. Tomorrow night, 6:30, 5 miler, South Boston. Flat, fast, and along the water. Super-heavyweight division. I want to place. At least I'm well rested.

                          Hey Jim,
That's not the Sugarbowl 5 miler, by any chance is it? C'mon, really, the sugarbowl?

hehe, seriously, good luck on your run! I've done that one twice before. It's always the hottest day of the year, and I never do well, but then again, I'm not an evening runner. I always feel like my legs are full of lead. I've been looking for a weekend 5K this month or next month, but so far I haven't seen anything good. Coolrunning.com seems to only have the regular weekend runs on their page. I'm disappointed in their race schedules lately. Do you know of any in the Boston area on a Sunday morning?

Good morning all. 5.5 miles in 50 min. this morning. My body just wanted to go faster than usual. I am so happy, my only goal is to finish, but it would be great not to be last.

Great job getting right out there into a race Jim.

                              And Effie 3 miles--- Awesome.

Something ironic struck me as I ran this morning and thought about Betty's other thread regarding marathon training. My running chant is no walking, no walking, no walking. It is ironic because this is what I would chant during my cc races 10 years ago. For a measly 2 miles!! Now this Sunday it will be my chant to get me thru 8 miles. Youth is wasted on the young!!!!

Thanks for reading my ramble. Have a good day.
