  • Cool Running for the week of July 17, 2005

Welcome to another week of running goals and achievements!

Last week was TERRIFIC, as we had Sarah finishing her first 10k (WOOHOO!) and I did a 13.1 mile run yesterday without dying, so I know come January I *will* be ready for Disney!! YAY!!

Its great seeing so many new posters here on the cool running thread! You're all soooooooooooooooooo inspiring!! Keep up the great work this week! Let's see what we can really accomplish!!

As for me, today is a rest day ... but come tomorrow, I will be shooting for 8 miles with the running club from work. I can't believe it, but I am over 700 miles for the year and its only mid-July!! Who knows, maybe I'll have to adjust my goal to 1200-1300 miles for the year!! YEAH MAN!!

Have a great week of running everyone!!

Wow Betty great job on your 13.1. I have 16 weeks to make it there. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can! I did 7.3 in 1hour 20min this morning. Which is amazing to me because that is how long it took me to do 6.3 last week! My body feels great, it is like it has finaly realized I am not going to quit so it might as well join in the fun!!

Sarah I can't say enough how inspirational you are. Again great job with your race. I am with Betty, I see a half marathon in your future!!

Get up!! Get out!!! Get Moving!!!

    That means you!!!

This is my rest day too, but I always feel like a slacker on those days!

Oh well, I'm gonna BBQ some ribs, make some cole slaw and deviled eggs and enjoy my rest day. I oughta sweat off something just BBQing in south Louisiana!

Monica, I know what you mean! I always feel like a slacker too! But, girlie, what both of us need to remember is, these are not REST days, they are STRENGTHENING DAYS .. tomorrow, we run stronger than ever because of today!!

Perspective is everything! Enjoy your BBQ!!

Ok since yesterday was my "long" (7.3) run today I "rest" (if you have two boys under 5 do you ever rest?) and do Tae Bo. Tomorrow I will start my 5.5 miles x 4 days cycle. Keep it going everyone!!

6.2 miles done at noon. It was a good running day and I'd love to have gone farther, but ran out of time. Dang work, anyway! There was a good breeze out there today (a rarity around here) and the skies were partly cloudy which really helped ease the heat. I may run again when I get home .. will see how things go.

My blood blister on my third toe is pretty gross today, but doesn't hurt a bit. I guess sooner or later you know you're a bonafide runner when you have the world's ugliest toes and no toe nails. Must be the initiation process of an addicted runner!

Today was a landmark achievement: My HRM went over the 100,000 calories burned mark ... 28.61 pounds burned off since May 2004.

That's aweosme everyone I am going to start training for my Half marathone for next summer by then I'll be at goal and be running easier then ever. You are all GREAT and look at all the encouragement I couldn't be more happy to be apart of any group you all ROCK>

I am still freaken sore it's running day tomorrow and maybe it'll turn into walking day LOL. Oh, dear how long with this last hopefully I'll be ache free in a couple days. My poor body But I get to soak in my accomplishments a few days longer this way.

WOW you are all awesome I can't wait to be running 13.1 miles How excellent would that be and in 2 hours that would be great. I need to lose some more weight before I'll be doing that but, it's comming. Can you imagine what I'll be able to do when I lose this 32 pounds Goodness I'll be unstoppable. Being my size and running like I did well I don't know too many who could do that. ANd I was also up 9 pounds cause of TOM so I ran the race in 1 hour 20 with a 9 pound sack of water on me LOL makes me wonder how much better I would have done if I was not all swelled up.

Any how I better go I'm jabbering away here.

Hey all, I've been MIA in this forum for two weeks or so, but I saw Sarah's 10K post in the main forum, so that was the nudge I needed.

I ran 3 miles this morning in 36:04. That's a minute and 20 or so seconds off my time from when I was running a few weeks ago. I'm impressed! I thought I'd taken one or two steps back, but I'm still right there in it. I'd like to sign up for a 5K in the next month or so, and hopefully finish in under 33 minutes.

4 miles done today. It was plenty hot and humid out there! Yawn, so what else is new??

Would have gone longer, but had to attend a lunch meeting at work. Dadgummit anyway!!

10.2 miles in for the week thusfar ... heading to 30-35.

I did 50 minutes on the elliptical yesterday - forgot how many calories I burned.

Today my body was just tired for some reason? I could only muster up 35 minutes on it, and the odd thing was that my heart rate got up high pretty quick and it usually takes a bit for it to get up into the 140s. Maybe that would explain why I was more tired? I don't know......

Just more confusion from the walking science experiement!

Great Job on the Elliptical I want to run but, I have 6 kids and they are all nuts I swear I am posting really quickly cause I have no time gotta go and break up the craziness.

The reason I am on is I was wondering if any of you have a 1/2 marathon training program I could see I would like to have a fairly intense program running 4-5 days per week but, something that works the milage up slowly so I don't suffer a heart atack. Any how if any of you could post a program or direct me to a websight that would work well for me that would be excellent.

                          Thank you

                            Sarah,

Hang in there with all of those chillins. Jim provided me with this site. I think it looks like a good plan. I am basing my training on it. Good luck!! www.ehow.com/how_10627_train-run-10.html

I have 16 weeks from last Sunday to train. My running schedule looks like this. You can see it is a gradual increase, but the miles accumulate like magic.

                            Last week
                            5mile x 4 days
                            rest
                            7.3 miles
                            rest

                            This week
5.5 miles x 4 days (this is the 10% increase Betty and the website recomend.)
                            rest
8.03 miles (again the 10% increase)
                            rest

                            next week
                            Repeat

                            Week after that
                            6 miles x 4 days
                            rest
                            8.83 miles

                            Repeat
