  • Cool Running for the week of August 7, 2005

Welcome to a new week of cool running!! Are we all psyched for great achievements this week? Come on!! Remember, if you don't move, neither will the scale!!

Today is my normally scheduled rest day. I am amazed that after running 13.1 miles yesterday, I am not sore anywhere ... Can that really be possible??

Tomorrow's goal is 6 miles at noon with the group from work! Yippee!! Have a great Sunday everyone!

Effie is right you are amazing Sarah!!!! Great job.

Well please don't throw anything, but I didn't make it out on Sunday. One of my little guys was sick, and on top of that I think that I over extended my left leg during my interval run last week. So I apologize. I walked two miles this morning just to keep things loose, and I plan to do five days of 6 miles to keep me at 30 for the week. I feel like such a loser. My husband said I needed the time to heal, and that helps. But darn it, I wanted to feel 10 miles of earth slipping away below my feet. Maybe this Sunday.

Keep up the great work everyone.

I know, I know. My little guy is better, poor thing, he was coughing so hard, he made his tummy upset. My leg is still tight, but should be fine by tomorrow. 14 weeks until 13.1 miles. I can do it!! Thanks for your support.

I drove my rout and I was pretty close to my estimate I ran 11.3 k that's 7 miles and walked 0.55k so pretty close to 12 k here. I am still amazed not even sore today really a bit achey but I stretched like crazy. There were 2 wicked hills on my run so I was pretty happy I ran them. Today is stretching and weight day and tomorrow run again. Probably inside since It's raining like the dickens.

Re: Cool Running for the week of August 7, 2005

Just finished 6 miles at noon. It was overcast today with rain threatening, but only a few drops fell on me and they were more than welcome! A good breeze out of the southwest which really helped. If I didn't have to go back to work, I'd have done more!!

No HRM so I don't know how many calories I burned .. I would guess about 550 or so .. took me about an hour 15 minutes.

Re: Cool Running for the week of August 7, 2005

                  Sarah, you are amazing, girl!!

I did my final run of Week 6 of the C25K last night. 3 miles of "wogging", but tomorrow starts Week 7, which is a five minute warmup followed by 25 minutes of running! Eek! I'm both excited and nervous as all heck.

Last night's run was great. I have thankfully discovered the secret to my hip pain, which is just that it needs to be stretched out gently before, during, and after I run. I mean, a lot. I walked for 10 minutes to warm up last night then stretched it for a good five minutes, and on some of my walk breaks as well, followed by 15 minutes of extended stretching when I was finished. And sure, it was a pain, but better to *be* a pain than to *have* pain, you know? Today I don't even need ibuprofen and I didn't have to ice it last night, so I'm feeling very relieved and proud.

Yay us! I feel so fortunate to have found this group. You all are so wonderfully supportive of people at varying levels of experience.

And totally off topic - I made the most fabulous baked chicken last night, using a mix of parmesan cheese and wheat germ as a faux breading. Fibery and good!

Did 10 minutes on the treadmill - I hate that thing - it makes my calves hurt! Then did 50 on the elliptical. Entered my stuff on the Presidential Challenge and I've earned my Bronze!! Don't know what that means exactly, but it sounds good!

Tuesday: Ran 4 miles outside, followed by the exercise ball for the abs and weights for the arms at the fitness center.

I am 1800 away from my silver how exciting that's absoulutely great cajun Ya, for you girl you're doing aweosme.

Today is running day but, I ahve a couple of questions when I went for my long run everythign was awesome but I got rub burn on the bottom of my arms now what the heck do I do for that?? Put bandades or what I don't like to wear shirts that cover my arms when I run too uncomfortable I wear running tanks with the bra built in.

What do I do guys I need your help caus that freaken hurt. YOWEY.

Today 3 miles I want to go outside but, with kids it's too hard so I'll have to deal with the treadmill. I am addicted to running in the outdors. SO what do I do when winter comes that's the perplexing question. Are there shoes you can buy with cleats on them and stuff HMMM. I dunno.

Any answers Would be greatly appreciated.

Sarah, if there's a bike store or a running store near you, call and ask if they have Body Glide .. it works great for those "friction" burns .. and it stays in place. Bikers use it alot for long rides and swear by it. Check it out at www.bodyglide.com. Sounds like it would work well for your arms.

As for running in the outdoors in winter .. um...you're welcome to come and live with me here in FL for a few months! Outdoor running in our "winters" is FABULOUS! The summers, on the other hand...
