The incline is Good it Builds up the strength in your legs, be sure if you do this though to have some days where you just run with no incline as you don't wanna build up those muscles to the point that they are overtaking the others on your legs. I try to have 3 runs with incline bursts and 2 without and then I run harder.

You're doing Aweosme Yoly I am really Proud and Impressed with you, Also Reveal You are really doing great I am sooo hap[py that you're doing so well I had to take a lot of steps back before I got to where I am it's a good indicater that you are going too hard I am Very PROUD OF YOU!!! Nikki E you are really doing well and I think that you will be running so well by week 9. It a short way to look into the future and you'll be running like a pro by then I know it.

Look at all the new people we have here it's totally awesome I love comming here it's my inspiration to keep going you are alll AWESOME. WOOOHOOO.

Oh, I got some more new runners these babies are expensive but felt like heaven. I have to run my first few runs on the treadmill in case I have to take them back cause if they have any signs of outdoor running on them they won't take them back. These set me back 140 Bucks but, well worth it and another pair of Adidas They are like My shoe I was really happy I found them. YAY. They felt sooo god on like when I got my other shoes I am sooo happy after the catastophy with the ones I bought yesterday I was worried. LOL. I was actually worried about spending that kind of money on a pair of shoe but, My Husband told me you don't wanna be messing with your feet they are your sanity That's how he put it LOL. And he's right. I couldn't afford them but, if I buy crap shoes I am sure that I will be down from injuries it's not worth it.

I better go I took the day off and did NOTHING WOOHOO. I really needed this day it's the first in 3 weeks I have taken 1 day and not done anything. I am itching to try out my shoes but, I'll wait till tomorrow.

    Take care all

Good Morning all!!! Wow we are really starting the week off well. Sarah, over 8miles whew, that is great!! Congrats on you new shoes I know you will be sailing in comfort.

All of you C25K'ers out there are really rockin it. I am so impressed with your dedication. My attention span is just not long enough to do a structured program , I am very impressed by all of you--yoly,nikkie, effie, reveal---- great job.

Jim we have missed you!!!! Welcome back into the fold(we were beginning to wonder we should move this thread to the womens forum )

Did 6 miles in 55 min this morning. I am loving my hrm, it is really keeping me from being a slacker. I only had 2.46 min below my target zone this morning. Yeah!!! (burned 501 cal)

Have fun on the trail today Betty. We are all rooting for you on other fronts as well.

WOWZER!! I take one day off from this thread and look at you guys go!!! I AM SO PROUD OF ALL OF YOU!!

Welcome back, Jim!! Man, what a workout you've been having doing the roofing! IN THIS HEAT?? Holy cow, I can't imagine it! Great job, losing those 70 big ones!! YOU ROCK!

Revea, that's awesome you are down another size!! WOOHOO!! Did you tell them at Lane Bryant that you won't be seeing them much longer!! ALL RIGHT! You have a Himalayan too? WE LOVE OURS! Got him a year ago in May and he's absolutely the love of our life!! His name is Marty St. Louis (named of course after last years MVP of the Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning!!) I'll see if I can post a pic of him... Have you had a Himmie before? OMG, they are spectacular cats. SO SMART!! What's his/her name?? Here's a pic of Marty when he was little!

Yoly, I am so happy you've joined us!! You're doing great! WTG listening to your body and taking it slow! Most people aren't that smart!! GOOD FOR YOU! Keep up the great work!

Nikki, you're doing excellent!! You can do it, girlfriend!!! Remember: "The race goes not always to the swift, but to those who keep on running."!!!!!

Rach, I knew you'd love that HRM!! I miss mine so much!! One of these days (when I get a job!) I'm gonna get me another one! Wowzer girlfriend, 6 miles in 55 minutes!! THAT ROCKS!! I am so proud of you!! Look at how far you've come in a short time!!

Sarah, glad you got new shoes! Yep, they are expensive, but think of it as an investment in your joints!! Keep track of your miles and don't go over 300 in your shoes!

All right .. time to hit the trail... I guess I'll be going it alone since DD about did herself in the last time we were both out there! What a wuss!! She's 20, her mom is 49 ... go figure!!

Have a great day everyone!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

Jogging/running will tone your entire body, including shoulders, arms, tummy. Betty, what's that saying you have? Walking is for the butt, running is for the gut. Did I get it right?

A few of us on here are doing the Couch to 5K running program, which you can find here: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

It's a great place to start!

ABSOLUTELY!! And when I say walking, I don't mean a casual stroll. I mean power walking ... FAST. You will feel that in your butt!!

As for running, definitely it will help raise your metabolic rate and burn fat from all over your body. The key to burning fat while running is to RUN SLOW FOR LONGER PERIODS OF TIME. So, simply put, what you want is SLOWER, STRONGER, LONGER. If you have a heart rate monitor, they are wonderful tools to ensure you are going slow enough. If you don't have one, I strongly recommend it. Most novice runners err by running too fast and too far, particularly in the beginning. Running is not a RACE .. (pardon the pun) its to develop stamina, build endurance and strength. You do that by going slow.

The couch to 5k program is excellent. I highly recommend it. Welcome to the world of running .. You'll soon be a full-fledged addict!!!

I just finished 9 miles on the trail. Gad, will August *EVER* end?? I mean, yeah, its summer and all, but a cool front would sure be nice, yanno?

I think I'll go jump in the fish pond we have in our back yard.

Well, I did my 2nd jog/walk on the couch to 5k plan last night and it was rather enjoyable. I really think I'm going to like running. And I'm not sore today. I did my first on Saturday and on Sunday I was very sore and even a little sore still yesterday. But I feel good today! I'm so glad there are so many people doing this plan and starting out around the same time! Its always good to have support!

Tried out my newest pair of Runners HEAVEN WOW great runners and my hip didn't hurt when I ran so that's a good sign. I kicked it up a notch and was aiming for 3.3 miles in 40 I was sooo close Like I can tell you I ran it in 40.30 WOW I am impressed with myself. 2 months ago running this fast was not an option I would have died. I could barely run a 15 minute mile and here today I ran a 12.12 minute mile what a vast improvement I am really getting faster WOOHOO. As my weight drops it'll be even better. I am so PROUD of me. I am sure at this point I am under 200 Won't know till the 6th of September and I'll let you all know. It's sooo cool to be improving so much. I had to go in and get a hormone panel well my testosterone is low so I am on a low dose gel every other day. The doc said it should help my stamina as well as my fat metabolism so that's cool. I am excited to see how I feel if it was low who knows what 2 weeks will bring it's exciting.

Any how better go take care all

Hey everyone! You're all doing amazing, as usual. I went white water canoeing on the weekend (I've been playing in white water in open canoes for 20 years). Anyways, I missed a crucial eddy turn and dumped us in some nice class three rapids. Long story short, stitches in one knee, both knees (one blown from a nasty skiing accident, the other wrecked last winter curling) swollen and bruised all the way down my shins and a whole whack of skin wiped away from my arse. But I had a blast! Needless to say, no running or cycling for me this week. Although I did sneak out today to give a little run a try...ouch...but don't tell anyone.
