Re: Cool Running for the week of December 25, 2005

All I got for Christmas was ... a sprained ankle! :P It's not too bad, the swelling isn't terrible and it only hurts when I turn it a certain way, and I can walk on it. But I'm going to take the next few days off running just to be sure! I've got a half marathon to train for and I don't want to be dealing with an injury in the new year.

How long do you think I should give it? Prolly until it doesn't hurt anymore, huh?

          Rev, I'M SO SORRY!!!

Use the RICE method ... REST, ICE, COMPRESSION, ELEVATION and definitely DO NOT RUN until the pain subsides.

Oh, My I'm sorry Rev that is horrible. I know how that is and have been there.

I have been a very bad runner this holiday season I am going today though YAY probably 1 hour get me back to it then I am starting Body For life on the second WOOHOO it'll be fun. So I'll be doing both. I may have to change my plans now I wanna do a full marathon but, I am worried about being able to complete it now I know myself even if I had to walk I would finish I am unsure as of if I should run the half or the full any suggestions I really wanna do the full. Training is gunna start hard and heavy in Feb again gotta get the miles up. By then I should have my Spanky new Treadmill. WOOHOO.

Any how I'll let you know how I do

Re: Cool Running for the week of December 25, 2005

Sarah, I'd opt for the half marathon first .. and increase your miles slowly after you complete that ... up to marathon distance.

For me, my idea of success is to FINISH. I signed up for the half-marathon last summer because I figured that would give me enough training time to be able to FINISH the course by January. Right now, my Saturday long runs are up to 18.5 miles, so I am well prepared for the January 7th halfer. After that is over, I will continue to build up my training miles to 26, so that by the time the full marathon day rolls around (Feb 25), I'll be able to finish.

              That's my strategy anyway!

That's excellent I know I'll have no problem finishing the half have run 17 miles so it shouldn't be a big deal. I may enter just the half this year comming and do the full the next year where I am at there isn't much for runs which totally sucks. and with the kids it's hard for me to be able to do a lot of the runs outside my area.

I ran 7.5 miles today was an awesome run felt really good byt the time I was done I had gone 8.2 miles with walking YAY!!!

Any how it felt good to run again.

I went like a wild Jack rabbit today and my legs feel it. I ran 10 miles in 1 hour 50 minutes a total of 10.6 miles for today with walking WOOHOOO. I was really going how proud am I.

Betty I would love to do the disney with you I'll have to see how stuff goes as I still have little ones around so it's hard for me to get away and finances are really tight for us to take a vacation. I will most likely do that in time but, time will tell.

I haven't done a ton of mileage yet this week. I am going to have to fix that as I have been reading a new running blog. (http://racerdad.blogdog.com/) He's another overweight dad who took up Atkins and running at the same time. He is going from starting at a slow 1.5 mile run to a full marathon in June. I am now motivated to the do the Dam2Dam half marathon (20k) in June. I am looking for a good program to follow get my base amount up.

Anyhow here are my runs for the week:
                          Monday - 5k - 26:10 minutes
                          Tuesday - 2 mile slow recovery run/walk
                          Wednesday - 2 mile 16:30 minutes
                          Kent - 35-M-6'4"

Whoa you picked the wrong one.... This one is more style:
Before starting to train for a half marathon, you need to possess a basic fitness level. But assuming no major problems, most healthy people can train themselves to complete a 13.1-mile race. This guide will tell you how. Much more information is contained in my book, Hal Higdon's Half Marathon Trai

My mpw is only 15-20 right now. Starting at 30 would definitely kill me or deinterest me, which one is worse I will leave up to the reader to decide. I was already thinking about Hal Higdon for his plans or this one at Coolrunning:

Jeff Galloways plan (http://jeffgalloway.com/training/half_marathon.html) seems a bit easy as it focusses on more walking than I am used to. I think either way I need to build more base runs especially on the weekend. Lately, I have been squeezing my run in late at night while I still have bunches of energy to speed through a 2-3 mile run, I am not looking for a 4-6 mile at that time (midnight).
