Jimmie they ain't my trainer just ones that work there and give pointers to folk not with a trainer as they walk the gym.

the pool is awesome but very cold water for swimming can you say blue lips is the color of those standing in the water most try to stay on the surface where it is warmer. good for promoting lap swimming

yep that is a roman chair. you get the work of holding your body up with your upper body muscles and then work of doing the leg lifts. you can get the same ab workout on laying the ground doing leg lift to your chest, but trainers like to torture folk with the chair at least mine used it as punishment cause I'd just embarrassed him on the butterfly press machine when he set up my workouts back in 2002. looking at him doing it I was expecting it to be hard so I put lots of effort into the press and slammed the handles together. I apologied for making that loud noise and banging the machine and he added 10 pounds more and told ne to do 10 of them. on number 7 he stikes his trainer pose and confidently ask are you feeling it now? I said not really. barbells hit the floor and several serious lifters started laughing hard. One big guy said real loud I never heard anybody answer that question like that. watchout your next lift will be impossible! and sure enough next was the abs and he changed from on the floor to the roman chair.

Ran 35 mins, 10 mins bike (50 mins jimmie..good for you..i barely did 10!) and chest and back weights. Stayed away from that roman chair today LOL. though sometimes i do it between sets. maybe i should give it more of a chance...though i will admit it is tough, i can't do more than 10 in a row..but I really don't feel it in my abs.

Sadi are you lifting your legs out straight or bent to your chest. when i started he said to do 3 sets of 15 with 1 min between sets. it was the holding up of my big body that worked me more then the abs but as I got stronger upper body and lighter the amount of abs went up a few each week now I do 125 roman chair ones 3 days a week In theory I could do more but as the fellow in the gym said you aren't in training for the olympics so just do a workouts worth. too bad he isn't a trainer.

Jimmie jo they got a nice abs recliner chair too no back on it though.

Felt good to get back into the swing of my usual routine today. Never thought I'd say that about exercise!!

Makes me chuckle to read all your posts about the various pieces of torture equipment you use to exercise, most of which I know nothing about... not even the names (more familiar with Italian names of such things). Sometimes it sounds like scenes from a bondage party or something!

But... seriously... am thinking of two pieces of equipment: the ball, which you all know about, and a cycle. Would love a treadmill, but haven't the space which is why I was considering the cycle. Never tried one before... Any thoughts, favourable or unfavourable?

sal, are you talking stationary or about bike to go outdoors with?
if you mean stationary, i would get one that had all the gagets for calculating on it. mine has speed, miles per hour, time, calories burned and a space on the curved handle that will monitor heart rate if you hold on in the proper place. you can change the tension but simply dialing a knob up or down.

barbiebabe will swear by her eliptical. she likes the seat position on it. i think her's has more calculating stuff too. i would upgrade from what i have to something that tells you more.

get a comfortable seat whatever you buy.

treadmills fold up now and stand against the wall when not in use see they don't take up much room any more http://www.fitness-machines.com/images/spacesaver.jpg when they are down they are about the size of an exercise bike.

yep get one with adjustable tension and get one with built in fans if you can afford it if you already got a heart monitor you can skip that but if not definitly get one.

and test it out I know back in my biking days some had the seat and pedal angles all wrong for my body.

Sally I don't own a bike or treadmill (no room either) though i've used them at the gym. i like the recumbant (i think?) bike that has the seat with the back on it. I'm no longer a fan of treadmills since i started running outside i find them boring, though i'll probably have to use the one at the gym in the winter occaisionally

I've heard the heart rate monitors on machines aren't as accurate as the personal ones with chest straps. . I have a basic Polar HRM has a chest strap and was very cheap, i think I paid $50 canadian for it.

I definately recommend the stability ball..though they take up room they're easy to move from room to room to get them out of the way, and if you really have to you can deflate/reinflate it. I use mine as a chair sometimes when working on the computer. they also make a great 'bench' for doing chest flies..i use one at the gym instead of a bench.

Today was a rest day for me...my legs were so tired i almost couldn't walk up the stairs so i figured it was a good day for a rest.

I'll be taking pup to the park to play frisbee later though.

Thanks Sadie! Good to have a few tips before taking the plunge... not sure quite when that plunge will be... too frantic to shop these days and there isn't an exercise equipment shop for miles and miles, so it'd be a day trip. Grrrrr.... need at least double the amount of hours in each day!

On track again with all the exercise.
