Re: Triathlon Dreams, Tips, and Training

Triathlons are doable, but much training and building a base is required. Once the base is reached, it's just a matter of maintain and building up endurance in each sport.
Today I am off to the public pool at 11am for some laps...
I've joined a fitness center to keep up the base and do weight training. Multisports are really benefit. I am studying fitness and I just read that cross training is the best, because you don't tire out one set of muscles and it reduces your chance of injury. It's got great benefits...I came to understand also about "getting in shape" so much of it is your lungs learning and developing the intake of more oxygen and then capillaries forming to the muscles, so that the oxygen can get there and assist the muscles in their work. Facinating, once you get it!

That is fascinating! Good to know that our bodies will adapt, so if you can't do it now, keep at it and we will!

Re: Triathlon Dreams, Tips, and Training

triathlon times! Well I have upped my exercise alot this week, trying to get in some good workouts before traveling scales me way back. Yesterday I did a "brick" workout. A brick workout is when you do two of the three sports back to back...Yesterday I ran 2mi, then biked 10mi. That's a brick....It helps the body get use to the blend....It's very hard to come off the bike and hit the ground running....
This next year I hope to do an Olympic level race, where I will get off the bike having done 25mi and then run 6.2....I have a long ways to go til then, but that's my goal...
Today I am headed back to the gym to again do a Brick workout...I can get away with that because I have some rest days coming with traveling....Where my body will rest, rest, rest in a airplane seat!

Jess - so I can begin to train at the gym? If I do 30 minutes on the bike and go to the TM right away for a 5K, thats a brick? Can I use any machine? I wanted to start changing it up a bit with the stepper and ellipitical...
