  • Is everyone okay???

Well ------- this forum has been very quiet for a long time.

I thought I'd just put out a post and ask how everyone was doing. If you have a minute and you are a 50+ member, post and let everyone know your current status.

As for me ------ I'm still enjoying OWL. I'm probably eating a little above my ACE (Atkins Carbohydrate Equilibrium) so I'm not really losing at all. I DO want to meet my goal so I've started this week trying to exercise more and be better about eating induction level foods. It's so very hot and humid in Alabama, I thought it would be easier this summer to get to my goal but so far that hasn't happened. It could be because I hesitate to even go outside if I can help it. lol I do have a pool and need to be swimming every day. I plan to do that this week if I can manage a few laps around the grandkids. lol

So, if you 50+ bunch have time, give us some updated info on your status these days. :yes

    :wave :wave Hi Janice -

I hadn't really noticed before how close our numbers are except you're several pounds ahead of me in reaching goal. Good for you. I've been battling lately for a couple of pounds here and there. One thing I've found on this journey, I have far more patience than I thought I did. Pounds and inches are going but they seem sooooo sloooooow now. Can't complain, though, since 40 pounds in four months is not so bad.

      Hi Janice

I am doing great also. I've joined the Buff & Clean challenge and find myself posting more on that site than this one. But, I do check in here daily to see if there are any new annoucements.

This WOE is getting easier and easier to me as it becomes more comfortable and 'a habit'.

Both of you ladies are doing great!!

I do a lot of reading and have kept up with you whether you know it or not.

ScotsCats, 40 lbs. in 4 months is quicker than mine came off. You just keep pluggin' along. You will make your goal, I'm sure of it. Patience has got to be one of the keys to this WOE when you get to 'our' age. We can do it!! I'm confident of that.

dreamof145, well you are just melting away before my eyes. You go, girl! You are to be commended for joining that challenge. WOO HOO!!

Thanks for checking in ladies. I hope we hear from some others. I'd like an update on Becky Sue so hope she drops in and tells us how wonderful she is doing. She's really struggled too but I heard she had some good news a while back.

Everyone take care and be patient and keep on plugging along.

        :hug Janice

          Reporting in!!!
It really has been a struggle with my candidasis(yeast overgrowth).
My weight was starting to creep back up, because of the yeast and food sensitivities.
As of July 1st. I started LC WOE called (KISS) keep it simple sweetie! Basically I am eating meat(protein), and the good veggies, olive oil and water. I have eliminated dairy, nuts, besides the already illegal foods. I am very insulin sensitive and I had to do something to shake up my system to get it to loosing weight again.
I have to do the KISS program more strict than others, because of trying to get control of my yeast problem. So I can't eat vinegar, mayo, dry spices. I will post some links that have helped me, so others can read about my WOE. This is an elimination diet, eventually I will try to introduce some of the foods back into my diet and if I have reactions, I will have to eliminate them altogether. You might think I fel really deprived, but I don't, because I feel so much better, health wise and symptoms that some foods made, made me feel bad. I feel great and I am making progress.
But the good news is this. June 22nd. I weighed 248.5 and as of today, July 12th I weigh 238.5. I don't think you remember, but I hadn't lost any weight for 8 months. Just rock back and forth on the same 5 lbs. It was very depressing and I wanted to succeed so badly that I hung in there. So by eating the KISS way, I have been able to drop 10 lbs. in a fairly fast pace, for me!
I will add the links to this post, as soon as I can gather them.
thanks for asking about me Janice. I appreciate all the support I get here at ADBB.
If you have questions, because all this may not make sense, ask away and I will answer back.
Happy LC ing and Happy KISSing for me!
          Becky sue

Thanks Becky Sue! Very interesting concept - KISS... I may give it a try if things don't improve in the next couple of weeks. I just got home from the store with cream, can't let it go to waste... LOL.

As I said, the weight loss is going slow. I think nuts are a problem for me, esp. almonds. I just can't control the amount. I have decided that I may use a few walnuts in recipes and sunflower seeds for my snack in Sunday School when everyone is eating things like cookies, donuts and other sweets. I'm hoping cutting out most of the nuts will make a positive impact. I have no problem resisting anything that is not on this WOE, but darn those almonds! :anger :help

I went to Sr. Hi church camp week before last and did pretty good. I took most of my food and we had salad and veggies available at every lunch and dinner. (I cooked with 2 other ladies.) I never felt deprived and the 34 teens and 7+ adults enjoyed the meals we prepared. It was a busy, but fun week. I even lost a pound at last week's weigh-in.

I'm still checking in here every day, just not very talkative I guess.

              Hey Ladies! :wave

It's me and I am doing......O.K. I have been busy with my gardening and my exercise challenges.

It has been a bit of a struggle, although I have lost only a total of 6 pounds now, I have dropped one slack size and my upper thighs have muscle definition as I walk. So although I am not dropping the weight I would like, I am reshaping what there is. And, at my age, that a GOOD thing!!

The arthritis has made my running/walking/dancing a real challenge and some days I simply can't....so I do other things. I bought a Pilates Sculpt tape which I just love. Its Pilates with weights and the 55 minutes fly by!

On another happy note, my gardens really look wonderful this year. We have been blessed with a goodly amount of rain and it sure makes a huge difference. (As compared to the last several summers in a row during which we had no rain for 2 and 3 months running...zip, zero, nada). For us living in the country and on a cistern (no city or well water) this can be quite problematic vis a viv irrigation.

              Anyway...if you would like, have a look-see...

I too check-in on a daily basis (I record my exercises for each day on the Exercise Challenge part of the board) and more than once was tempted to ask, "where is everyone and how are you all doing?"......but being a fairly new member, I did not want to seem pushy. Hence am so glad that you did!

              I miss you guys!

                  Dear Guitarman,

I LOVE cottage cheese and can't wait to start eating it again!

Here are a couple of suggestions:

CC and berries with some Splenda - you think that you are eating cheese cake! This is one of my absolutely favorite breakfasts!

CC mixed with a bit of Blue cheese dressing and chopped tomato and purple onion on a bed of lettuce.....wonderful!

                  Enjoy!

I too have been spending a lot of time on the Century forum, participating in the Buff & Clean and also in the Christmas challenge. (I also noticed that this forum wasn't moving much.)

I've lost 11 pounds since joining ha and 21.5 inches and been cheat free the entire time! I am still on Induction and pretty much plan to stay there for quite a while. I seem to feel better the less carbs I eat. Exercising has been sporadic. I think my problem is that when I'm feeling good I have a tendency to over do it then slack off until my back starts feeling better then over do it again. I simply must find a "happy medium".

When I was eating cottage cheese I used to eat it on lettuce with tomato. You can "spice" it up with garlic powder, oregano, etc. You can use it to make dips, it's a good substitute for sour cream. Although this is not an Adkins friendly food, you can use cottage cheese as a substitute for ricotta cheese in (ugh!) :yikes lasagna (spelling?).

I'm doing well also. On my second week of vacation and thinking more and more about retirement. I could get use to this life :raving :raving . As for my WOE, I spent the last 5 months in food ****, so I have been really enjoying real food again, especially fresh veggies. Oh yum......

Sorry, I'm not really close to 50, but was reading, anyway. I always add chives to cottage cheese- nothing else, just jarred chives. They are expensive in most places, so I jsut get them for a dollar at the drug store, CVS or Walgreens.

I have stuffed tomatoes with cottage cheese when I was hosting luncheons with our wive's club when my husband was in the military. You cut the tomatoe criss-crossed and give a little squeeze. It will open in a pocket on the top and you scoop cottage cheese into it.

I've also used it on celery as a topping.

You can use it as a cheese in lasagna and I saw a good lasagna recipe with low-carb spaghetti sauce and squash (zucccini) sliced lengthwise and halved to replace the noodles. THIS IS NOT FOR INDUCTION ....but looked good.

It was nice to see so many new posts in this forum--it's one I always check but it had been very quiet lately.

I think my weight loss might be slowing a bit, since I have reached what is a very natural weight for me. It's way above my goal weight, which I basically made up for no good reason. I'm at that place now where any weight I lose is wonderful and welcome, but if I stayed here I wouldn't grouse about it. I carefully monitor daily carbs (15-22) and calories (1300-2100, a broad range!) and keep up faithfully with my exercising. This is a regimen I can live with for a long time. I only weigh myself once a month, so I won't know till August 1st if I am still losing lbs. I've added fruit in the last 6 weeks. I said when I started this that I would not go through summer with no watermelon, so I have a small bit of that now and then. When we have strawberries I put 2-3 on my flax cereal, and on days when I have eggs for breakfast instead of flax, I grab one or two strawberries as an afternoon snack. Doesn't seem to have had any negative impact on my size. I have backed way off red meat, just don't have a yen for it any more; I eat a lot of chicken and pork and have replaced red meat with fish, something I didn't used to enjoy. Interesting how your tastes change over time.

In non-Atkins news, we closed on a beautiful acre of riverfront property at the end of June and my husband took his vacation over the week of July 4th. We spent many days down at the river clearing the land, cutting down small saplings and hauling brush and debris out. When he went back to work, I needed a vacation from our vacation--whew that wore me out! But we love it out there and look forward to setting up a retirement getaway home on it in several years. We are avid canoe paddlers so this is ideal for us!

I'm so glad you asked for updates, Janice, I really enjoyed reading every single one. It's so nice to read about others in my age group!
