Hi -- I've been here for quite awhile and am tired of talking to myself, so I thought I'd start a thread for us to come in and chat or just say hi to each other. Hope you will join me!

Hi Carole, how are you? I've been busy tracking on FitDay. I love that program. Haven't been doing enough exercise tho'. Mostly because everything is in the basement, blah. Anyway, I'm going to make lunches for tomorrow. Hope we chat again sometime,

    Suzanne

Hi Suzanne. It's nice to have you join us here.

It sounds like your basement must be like mine, a dungeon! I would love to get my elliptical machine out of the livingroom but I hate the thoughts of putting it down there with all the other machines I don't use anymore. Although I do use the weight lifting machine there.

Fitday is a great program but after spending months filling out all the food info when I was on WW several years ago, I just couldn't get myself to start all over again on Fitday. I just write what I eat and drink in a small notebook and only list calories and carbs. It works for me.

How are you doing on Atkins?

Re: Any 50 year old members out there?? Come on in and say hi

I'm so happy someone found this thread and actually posted!!! I see how active the STAC group is and I know there are plenty of "over 50's" on here so it's nice to have you both stop. I hope you'll come often and we can chat here!!

I took yesterday off - I normally don't take days off but I did....I don't mean I left the plan because I ate fine and drank my water .... I took a day off from exercise. I started a new abs workout and am only doing that every other day (thank you for the reminder Nyna) so I figured while I was out of the house most of yesterday at doctor appointments I would just take the whole exercise day off. Let me tell you it felt very strange not to be doing anything.

I had my bike in the basement for quite awhile but had DH bring it up and it's in the bedroom. I have it over in the corner with a TV tray on top so I can ride and be on the Atkins board (or the internet) while I'm getting my 25 miles in each day. It really helps pass the time. The stepper is in the living room in a corner and I should do more on it but just can't find a way to make myself stay on it....I also have a set of dumbbells in the bedroom - 2lb to 8 lbs - that is part of what I'm also trying to do this month - a little strength training to help tone up more than just the cardio.

Since it's a new month I've decided to start each month trying a new recipe so see if I can add more variety to what I'm eating. I got some frozen zucchini and yellow squash out for lunch today - that was a different taste - I had 1/2 cup of them a 4 brussells sprouts in butter with pepper and vegetable seasoning and a small chicken breast left over from dinner 2 nights ago. It was a good and very filling lunch.

Last week I made the coconut cake recipe from Linda's site but I couldn't find cocount flour so I substituted almond flour - it was more of an almond bread than cake -- I put in less Splenda than it said (guess I wasn't watching what I was doing well enough). It's a good bread to eat with eggs (since it's very eggy tasting to begin with). I fried it in butter and a little cinnamon then dipped it in DaVinci maple sugar free syrup and it was a perfect french toast - just like I remember...I had the last serving of it for breakfast this morning. That will be a recipe I make again - they are small slices (it's only about an inch & a half tall) but it makes 12 slices at 2 carbs per serving. When I ate it with eggs I toasted it but you have to be very careful getting it out of the toaster so you don't burn yourself.

It is cold here today (only in the 60's) and has been raining off and on since yesterday afternoon so mom made vegetable beef soup (she calls it stew but it's a thin soup with roast beef and all kinds of vegetables) - it has carrots and potatoes in it so it's a no-no for me so I'll have to find something to have for dinner. I thought she was going to make potato soup because there is milk that needs to be used by the 6th but I guess she decided not to. Maybe they'll have that tomorrow.

How is everyone doing with their eating? Do you have anything new you can enlighten me with? I hope you'll come often and stay late!! LOL

Take care & have a great Atkins day

Re: Any 50 year old members out there?? Come on in and say hi

Hi Carole and Nyna, how are you 2 today? It's sunny but a little cool today. I was out gathering at the grocery store (again) and as usual, the cashier asked me if I was able to find everything. I said "actually, do you ever carry pork rinds? I haven't been able to find them anywhere, and apparently I can have them on Atkins?" As it happened, the cashier's husband loves pork rinds and she suggested I look at Mac's Convenience store. I did look, and bought 4 bags so I can try some of the recipes I've seen on Linda's web site.

Last night I took the dog out for a brisk 45 minute walk. Today I'm planning to do some gardening if I get outside. I can't seem to get myself motivated to go downstairs and work out.

At the moment I'm trying to figure out what to eat - haven't eaten today yet except 2 pork rinds. I have been drinking water tho' and have started the chicken wings for supper tonight. I hope they aren't too too hot or my husband won't want them. I thought I'd do the canned bean salad as a go-along. I've input some of the recipes into Fitday since Linda kindly includes the nutrition info. What a lifesaver she has been with all her ideas and recipes!!!

My son has been doing well, he's lost 14 or 15 lbs since May 1st and my husband has lost 8 and I'm down 5.5(since I started Apr. 27th). I promote Atkins at work just like I used to promote WW's. I figure, whatever works is good for me . I can't wait till I weigh in on Friday morning, even tho' it's really slow, the "extra" didn't go on overnight, and it won't come off overnight either.

Well ladies, must "get a wiggle on" as my mother used to say and make Ben's lunch (& my own, lol). Hope you two have a lovely day, talk to you soon,

          Suzanne

Carole... sorry. I saw the thread but thought you wanted to say hi and chat to people on the one particular day rather than any day, and by that time it was two days later!!!

Anyway... just dashing in and dashing out to say a quick "Hi" to everyone!

Re: Any 50 year old members out there?? Come on in and say hi

              Hi all!
I've been sick for the past few days but I'm feeling better today although my cough is coming back. It kept me awake last night until I finally took an Alka Seltzer Plus and some cough syrup at 4 am, then I slept in until 8 when I usually get up at 5. I know the syrup wasn't advisable but I needed to get some sleep!

I made Ham and Green Beans for dinner tonight and it was really good. It's been cool for the past 3 days and something hot like that really hits the spot.

I finally cleaned off my treadmill and spent 41 minutes on it this afternoon. Twenty years ago, I used to walk 42 miles a week on one but then my arches collapsed and since I had them rebuilt with plates, pins and screws, I've been afraid to go back to walking. But I felt great when I got off of it today and I plan to go back again tomorrow. I may have to put an extra arch support in my left shoe though because it ached a little bit. I bought a new pair of walking shoes last week and they are really comfortable. They are Brooks brand which I had never heard of before.

Well, I think I'm going to go weed the onions so I'll be back tomorrow. Have good evening everyone!

I wondered where you had been Nyna....Sally -- I'm glad you stopped in. I just figured the STAC was so active with their daily roll call but they seem to be about the only group that is really active.

I thought maybe this was a good place for us to come and just chat when we have the time. Hope we can keep this going!!

                      Hi all!

I've tried to post here 3 times today but keep getting interrupted!

I've been busy doing extra cleaning because there will be people here from AZ to tour the place. They are relatives of my son-in-law. We don't usually get the tourists until next month.

I now have laryngitis and I had to sleep on the recliner last night because a started coughing every time I laid down in bed! Hopefully tonight will be better.

                      How's everyone else doing?

Doing fine thanks Nyna. Gotta big lunch today, sort of a duty thing as it's work related. Gotta get all dressed up, which I hate! Can't seem to get anything done, 'cos it splits my day, but maybe it'll be better than I expect (it's morning here).

When you say you have tourists coming, does that mean you rent places out? If so, we're in the same business!
Hope your cough goes away very quickly.

                          Good Morning everyone! "yawn"
I've spent the last 3 hours attending to Oliver (my daughters 10 mth old dog) and Lincoln (my dog), making sure Oliver doesn't run off somewhere, keeping him busy chasing balls, which keeps Lincoln busy, chasing Oliver, round and round the back yard, my lord, through 2 cups of coffee! We are dog-sitting, and by golly, next time, I will take Oliver home to sleep! so I can get some sleep. I dozed on the couch, and finally put Oliver out in the sunroom with Lincoln, because they kept whining and in Oliver's case, barking/yelping cause they were separated. I'll be glad when Jenn and Curt get home, altho' if we decide to go out to an auction, I"ll take Oliver home sooner. Blah. Oliver is very high energy, Australian Shepherd/Standard Poodle, known as an Aussie-Doodle. Too smart for his own good, very short attention span, never-ending energy.

Other than that, I'm hoping to do some gardening today as it's supposed to rain tomorrow. I have plants that need to go in the ground. But, first I need to make breakfast which will be a quiche from Linda's web site. So...thanks for letting me "whine" a little, and I'll probably post some later. Have a lovely day all!

                          Suzanne

Nyna I hope you are feeling better - nothing worse than not feeling well and having people in. Sally, do you have a bed and breakfast type of place or what? Fancy, it sounds like you are busy with "babies" --- we have a 1 year old who is too smart for her britches also - she has learned to push the buttons on the remote control for the ceiling fan in the living room to turn it on.....I have to watch her every minute of the day!! She also plays and loves to fetch all day....she wears us all out!

I want to thank you each for coming and chatting -- it's nice to have a place to go and say hi!!

I finally managed to get on the bike last night -- usually I'm on it and done by 2:00 p.m. but we had running to do yesterday and didn't get home until almost 4:00 p.m.

This morning I made sure to get on and get my riding in by noon -- so I was done by 2:00 p.m. I've knocked a few minutes off the ride this week -- it use to take 2 hours 15 or 20 minutes (depending on how many 1 minute rests I took....today I am proud to say it took 2 hours 8 minutes! Not as many rests and a faster pace of music today. I was watching/listening to The Eagles Farewell Tour 1. Yesterday was #1 Disco Hits....that's always fun! I have no plans to increase my miles -- 25 miles a day is about all my rearend will allow!

After dinner I plan to do a new exercise video -- Crunchless Abs. I've been doing HipHop Abs...which is something for someone who doesn't care for "hip hop"...LOL!!! But i do get a good workout with the guy and am sweating up a storm when I'm done.

We are having NY Strip Steaks on the grill for dinner -- I made deviled eggs last night and have eaten a couple already today - still can't believe we are so fortunate to be able to eat this way.

I go Monday morning for blood work -- hope it shows something good because this is the first blood work since I started Atkins in January!! I'm running 2 blocks from the hospital while mom is having her eye surgery done. She won't miss me while I'm gone...LOL!!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.
                            Carole

                              53 1/2 here !!!

Hi everyone! Hope you're enjoying the weekend! I AM !

Started off early this morning running 14 miles on our local paved trail. It was a hot and dastardly humid central FL morning, but I prevailed! I think I sweat off a ton today! Took my water and my electromix powder and its a good thing. I'd never have made it without the electrolyte replacement!

DH DD and I went out for steak afterwards. Yumbo. I had a filet, creamed spinach and a salad and it was wonderful.

Not much planned for the rest of today; I think I've earned a rest !

Hope you're all staying on plan and enjoying life!
