Hi gals!! Glad to see you've posted already today. I agree with you exactly Kathy - same thing happens to you - if I don't eat enough I get out of keotsis and then I don't loose. I've been re-reading my journal and looking at the spreadsheets I keep and found that to be true. When I started the first time (last January) I did real good through induction and the first couple weeks after that but then I started not eating enough and things just fell into oblivion from then on. I would loose a couple pounds then I would flouder for a month or two, loose a couple - flounder. I wish I would have noticed this before. I am determined not to undereat this time....another thing I've been doing is varying my carb totals because it seems when I do that I do better also.

I'm joining the veggie challenge starting on the 10th -- I started counting my veggie carbs today I have to eat at least 17 veggie carbs and today I managed to get 16 so I got real close. I couple days over the last couple weeks I needed to eat more veggies so this challenge is great for me. It seems Mitzi hosts this challenge just when I need it each time!!! Yea Mitzi...LOL

I've invited Fancy1952 (Suzanne) to join us she, like myself, got lost along the way and is now back and is a great lady to know!!

Ok -- I'll be here all week folks...LOL!!! How has your day gone?

I'm having a problem eating enough too. I just don't get hungry anymore! I wake up at 3am with my stomach growling but I refuse to get up in the middle of the night to eat. That's one bad habit I've never had. But the rest of the time, I'm not hungry. I weigh myself again on Thrusday and will let you know how it's affecting me.

I joined the veggie challenge and I always enjoy it. This time I'm trying bok choy because believe it or not, I've never eaten it. I hear it's good in stir-fries and I love them so that's what I'll probably make. Anyone have a favorite recipe for it?

I tried bok choy last challenge and was on the fence about it. It was ok but I haven't bought it again. Talk to Jill (Chinadoll) or go to the stirfry thread for some ideas -
        http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/recipe-requests/2533-stirfry-recipes.html.

I'm not doing too well veggie wise today - need to go to the store and get some fresh veggies. I had a head of cauliflower but I tasted it and it was bad...yuck!

Know what I like best about this website.....we you look at the majority of people's weight goals they aren't listing 105 or 110 .... they are listing reasonable numbers! Now, if we could just get people to understand that they aren't going to loose 50 pounds in a month, they HAVE to eat fat and vegetables AND it's a lifestyle change, not a fad diet. Sometimes it's frustrating to greet the newbies and read their theories on what Atkins is all about.

Ok, enough from me...lunch was good and I'm off to see what else I can get into today.

Hi Gals! I tried more veggies too. Last night made sauteed chicken legs (lotsa them, on sale...I guess .69/lb is the new .49/lb., hahaha) anyway, served them with fresh brocolli and cauliflower....cooked together .....w/ butter and s & p....very yuumy! Even my husband didn't notice there was no baked potatoe!!! LOL!!!
Have always wanted to try the bok choy....but never knew either how to prepare it and with what, etc.....will check it out. I think it's like a big, calm onion...not sure....OH, This morning, made the Atkins omelet with bacon, avocado, cheese and fresh salsa on the side....OMG!!! very yummy! Got it from the atkins.com site under breakfast ideas....now I'm outta eggs and almost bacon...one more breakfast left for me. I need to get the stuff to make low carb pancakes....has anyone tried them? Like the protein powder/soy thingy, or???? Whoops, there goes my timer...time to drink more water!!! I bought low cal ginger ale the other day...hmm, could also be part of my stall/gain....boo hoo! Talk later, bye,

Hi gals!!! I haven't tried the pancake with protein powder because I can't stomach the smell of it or the taste. When I first started I did find and tried this pancake recipe:
              Pancake

3oz cream cheese (soften in microwave)
              2 eggs
              1 tsp cinnamon
              1 Tbsp sugar free syrup
              Butter to taste.

Beat thoroughly pour in greased skillet on low/med heat for 4 minutes. Flip and fry another 1-2 minutes.

Didn't think much of it and it took all my cheese serving for the day so I never made it again...didn't remind me of a pancake at all and the fake syrup wasn't a favorite either.

OMG - my mother is feeding the dog jello with fruit cocktail and cool whip on top.....SHEESH! I swear that dog will eat anything!

Our neighbor came over this afternoon with her new little boy (adopted from Russia, they brought him home a month ago & he's 14 months old). He's such a cutie & is walking all over the place and really starting to talk more. She invited us to go watch her dance Friday night - it's a dinner and Polynesian dancing after so I talked to mom and I'm going to take her as her Mother's Day present. The hubs is going to the dentist that day and may have the other root canal, depends on if the one he had last Tuesday during his lunch is healed enough - if not he will start on the 4 cavities that need to be filled. He didn't look real thrilled when I ask him if he wanted to go...LOL!!

Tomorrow is my Poditrist appointment - since the cuticle is gone the toe is still tender and there is still some swelling in it but the skin has stopped peeling off (I know TMI!!!). I'm hoping she ok's me to walk long distances so I can start back on my treadmill.

I got 16 veggie carbs in today ... just can't seem to get that last veggie carb in before I'm out of carbs for the day. I'm going to plan my meals for a couple days to make sure I get enough veggies in.

We went to the produce stand this afternoon and somewhere between leaving the house and getting home I lost my new glasses (but I digress).....I bought cauliflower, lettuce, cucumber, celery, 2 zucchini & 1 yellow squash, fresh green beans, avocado, onions, broccoli & a lemon - it was slim pickens here at lunch, I had 2 oz of cucumber and celery as my veggies because that's all that was in the house! I really loaded up at dinner, not so much meat but more veggies since I was low for the day.

Ok enough from me, need to troll the board to see what's going on.

Well I weighed myself yesterday and have lost 8 lbs. in 16 days of induction! I feel great and still don't have much of an appetite but I haven't really been counting calories so I'm not sure how much I'm actually eating. I know I'm getting the fat and veggie carbs I need and that's all I'm keeping track of.

DH wanted me to make ice cream the other day and I was going to do it until I realized that if I made it when there were only the 2 of us here, I would be tempted to eat some so I've put it off until tomorrow when there will be others here to eat my share. So that's one bullet I've dodged!

                    How's everyone else doing?

Wow Nyna! Congratulations!!! That is just great!! Keep that up and you'll be able to eat ice cream whenever you want, LOL!! I'm at a stall but I'm not gaining...that really upset me those 2 lbs, but they're gone....I constantly need to remind myself to drink more water, and make sure I'm eating enough protein and fat at each meal. The protein is no problem, but the fat sometimes gets left out of the equation...except for dinner....lotsa butter on my brocolli and cauliflower, and olive oil on cucumber/tomato salad. Oh well....everyone have a great day!

Hi ladies -- I wasn't dancing last night, just went to watch my neighbor and the kids and other ladies dance. We had a great evening, my journal has all the in depth info about the evening....if you don't read my journal.....long story short - it was cold but we bundled up, the food was delicious, dancing was spectacular and we had a great evening.

Kathy, your welcome for the pancake recipe I didn't like....ROFL!!! Just posted it so you could keep away from that one - it was a waste of time, ingredients and gas for cooking that crappy thing...ROFL!!

The infection seems to be going out of my toe thanks to the antibiotics - yea! I bandaged it, wrapped it in tape, put a sock on and large shoe and cleaned up the yard where the tree limb came down during the night. We have been having such horrendous wind the past few days - luckily the tree limb didn't hit the house or anything else and do any additional damage.

WHOOT WHOOT WHOOT way to go Nyna!!! Congratulations on your loss during induction. I tell you, after being away from eating correctly it's a little hard to get back in the swing of things. I feel so much better now that I'm back on plan.

I hope everyone has a nice Mother's Day!!

                        • Re: Any 50 year old members out there?? Come on in and say hi

Hi. I'm a 63 year old guy whose been on the "diet" for about 13 years now, starting when I was 50. I just wanted to make a few general comments which I hope may prove helpful to some of you.

Getting rid of the addiction to sugar and other carbs is no different than quitting smoking or breaking any addiction for that matter. You have to reach a point where you finally say to yourself, which is more important, your health, life and appearance? Or your cravings for something that may well do you in sooner than necessary. It was tough for me to quit smoking. It was tough for me to quit driving. It was tough for me to quit a lot of things that I felt were no longer good for me. And that time came for me when I was 50, and starting to get gross and dirty. The Bible says "choose life." To me that means reducing and giving up those tempting things that will shorten it.

The withdrawal symptoms from carbs is as initially as wrenching for the body and soul as is the withdrawing from tobacco, drink, or drugs. The first phase, the "induction phase" is basically going "cold turkey" for a while until your body begins to transform itself back into the fat-burning machine it once was when you were younger.

When I first became determined to get serious, I was literally peeing my pants many times a day and literally had to get a diaper. I though the diet might have caused me some serious damage, but a health food guy I talked to assured me that I was not to worry. I was going into ketosis and that is how my body was reacting and expelling the waste. The "induction" period is the rough time of withdrawal symptoms as your body begins to burn the fat off. But just as with smoking, the craving for another "cigarette," or rather some more carbs did not leave me for a long time, and it never really does. So I learned to whip up low carb treats made with splenda that were able to fill those cravings.

Once you've lost the weight you need, the big challenge is not getting hooked again. I got many people into the diet, who lost weight quickly, but then got themselves hooked on the carbs again and soon regained it.

The key to maintenance is like when you've finally quit smoking or drinking. It is to know the evil, and know how to handle the snake. On occasion, I do eat a roll, or have some spaghetti. But these are rare treats for a blue moon, and I usually regret it afterwards. Because the belly doesn't LIE. Your waist size will tell you the truth soon enough.

The best way to think of it, is to think to yourself "What did my ancestors have to eat 10,000 years ago?" Did they have spaghetti? Did they have pizza? And did they have cigarettes to smoke? There was no such thing as fat hunter-gatherers. They couldn't have survived and been fat at the same time. People only started to get fat when agriculture was invented, and people could grow wheat and rice and vegetables and fruits, etc. That was the beginning of fat people. You can see evidence of this from the occasional archaological finds of ancient fat fertility goddesses. Since hunger had been the norm, and storing fat and gaining weight so miraculous in their eyes, that the first goddesses were the fat, bosomy fertility goddesses. It is said that women first discovered planting and hence agriculture.

So the key is, Do not Eat - or at least eat VERY SPARINGLY AND very INFREQUENTLY - those things that did not exist 10,000 years ago. Today there are good substitutes for them and Atkins gives recipes and products for good satisfying substitutes. The thing is to firmly decide what is most important: your health and self-image, or submitting to your cravings. With Atkins's alternatives, the choice is not as difficult as it once was.
Sorry for such a long generalized message, but I hope someone finds it useful. Good luck. Also, anyone who needs a few tips on how to satisfy the sweet tooth cravings, can contact me through this forum.

Another thing I wanted to add to my previous post, is the importance of water. Drink as much water (provided it is pure, clean water) as you can stuff into yourself. Water, water and more water. Always keep many jugs of the stuff in the fridge and drink as much as humanly possible. The first thing to turn to when the sweet craving strikes is to drink a lot of water.

Welcome jgarbuz....I stopped my sugar monster during induction - I didn't add any sugar substitutes to anything and ate nothing processed so after a couple days it didn't bother me. I stopped drinking years ago and smoking 3 years ago the same way - cold turkey - it's what works best for me.

As far as drinking water - I run (and have for over a year) the water challenge for the forum and I agree with you about drinking as much pure water as you can during the day. I drink 1 cup of decaf coffee in the morning then start drinking water. Once in a great while I have a diet soda (Diet Rite because it has nothing added) or Ice Tea but never more than 1 cup - it is my special drink that I allow myself.

Hi everyone!! Just finished dinner and cleaned up the kitchen. We had a beef roast and I had broccoli and turnip greens withit. After dinner I had pumpkin desert w/whipped cream on top. It still amazes me how well we can eat and loose weight.
My next weigh in day is this coming Monday -- I'll have been back with Atkins for a month that day. I'm hoping to get back into ONEderland on Monday -- I was only 1 pound from being there on induction - but I've worked harder the past few days since I didn't get there then!!!

I'm watching DWTS - it's either going to be Niecy or Chad going home tonight -- and I like both of them so it's going to be a sad night, as far as reality shows go...lol!

Well, it's time to check mail and see how others are doing....hope everyone is having a great day!
