    I know I don't feel my age...but of course if I had woke up being 52 maybe I'd feel different. My body has problems but thanks to Aleve I get around pretty darn good!

    Only 3 college bowl games left....then I can officially say I've watched EVERY SINGLE ONE!!! They really need to do away with about 10 of them, it seems like every business has a bowl named after them anymore!

    I had leftover sloppy joe pie for lunch today -- we had it before Christmas and I put 1 serving in the freezer to see how it would taste after being frozen -- it was great! It doesn't take much to fill you up. I had it and 2 pieces of celery w/cream cheese in them.

    Hope everyone is having a great start to their week!

      Morning all hip still bothering me a bit, but it's much better. Getting in and out of the car is the most painful part of my day. Looking forward to a good day at work, then grocery shopping...much needed. So cold here, hard to look forward to anything but curling up at home.

        Hi everyone in the over 50 group!! I am starting over again started in October and lost 9 pounds in two weeks but the closer to the holidays it got the more depressed I became and started eating and drinking everything in site! Now am in a good frame of mind and can do this!! I have a question...I have trouble sleeping and have been taking Advil PM, Tylenol PM, or Benadryl for a few months. Is there a connection w/weight gain and/or water retention if I do this most nights? Is hard to tell since I have been eating and drinking everything in sight over holidays!

          Hi and welcome billiedee -- I take 4 Aleve daily and 1 aspirin (per my dr). I drink 128 ounces of water daily to help keep water retention at a minimum....so I can't really answer your question.

          barr....what are you doing for your hip? Hope it's better soon.

          today was a bit of a wash....I'm starting to have symptoms of catching a cold (flu - whatever).....the hubs has had it off and on for about a month and I've been lucky enough not to get it full blown but I think I'm at the end of my luck rope. I just feel out of sorts. I didn't eat near enough today because I didn't feel like eating anything....I ate what I could.

          Waiting for the end of the Iowa/Ga Tech game (hopefully Iowa can hold on and pull this out since we're the underdogs) then I'm off to bed. Hope everyone is doing well!

            Ok I might be really stupid but I gave up smoking today....2 pkts a day person to zero!....I wanted to start swimming and I figured that I couldnt do that with smoking...people keep telling me its too much to change too much at once...Im thinking I feel good so why not? Its worth a go

                how much water are you drinking? how much salt are you getting daily? Salt was my biggest enemy for so many years. I stopped using salt on my food probably 25 - 27 years ago because I just couldn't eat it without bloating up horribly. When my husband had emergency triple bypass (just a few days shy of 4 years ago) and with his subsequent heart problems the cardiologist told me to use sea salt in place of table salt. I took the salt shaker off the table and threw it away - he's not allowed to add ANY salt to his food. Probably 95% of the food we eat has no added salt of any kind, thank the food processors for adding enough salt to everything and anything that we don't need to add any more! Soup, and a very few other recipes do I add any sea salt to....you may want to check your salt intake also!

                It could also just be a normal fluctuation -- even if I eat nothing but Atkins friendly foods I (and many others) have normal fluctuations from 2 to 4 pounds .... that's why I only get on the scale every other week or once a month -- depending on how I feel. Put your scale on a shelf in your closet and only get it out on "weigh days".

                  NO way is that stupid! That is the BEST thing you will ever do for yourself!!
                  How is it going??? I am 2yrs and 2 months quit. I smoked from the time I was 12yrs old til I was 47yrs old. And 2 packs a day!
                  You can DO it!!! It's tough, but you will be so happy you did it!
                  I am running now for the 1st time in my life too!! So see?? Go for it!!

                      Deena - how are you doing with stopping smoking? I quit on July 4, 2008 (I kept saying 2007 before but I checked and it was 200 - from 3+ packs a day to nothing -- cold turkey! You'll do fine - just take it a step at a time...like your Atkins program!!

                      welcome cherilyn! Glad you found us. Usually we are a little more busy than we've been lately but I'm sure it will pick up again soon!

                        Hi everyone!

                        I've been so busy lately that I go for 2 or 3 days without getting online at all but I miss being here and am always vowing to get back to posting all the time. We bought a rental house and when we aren't out buying materials, we are working on something. Right now we are insulating the attic and putting a new exterior door in the basement.

                        I'm doing well on the plan and am really enjoying the PC FitDay program I downloaded last week. I overdid it on oranges yesterday (my favorite fruit) but since I have a cold, I figured I needed the extra Vit. C. Today, no oranges!!

                        About salt, I love the stuff! And when I don't eat things like hot dogs, I crave other salty things like popcorn. I just can't seem to be able to do without it! Any suggestions?

                          I had to give up salt so many years ago I really don't even think about it anymore unless I eat something that is way too salty! Since the hubs had his triple bypass he can have a limited amount of sea salt daily -- we really have to watch everythng he eats for the sodium content ... something he never thought about - he just kept adding more salt!

                          Any plans for the long weekend? I forgot Monday was Martin Luther King Day and the hubs as it off - yea we get to sleep in!! LOL.

                          I'm feeling a little better today -- just tired still. Called the doctor yesterday and gave him our symptoms (mom and I are both sick - different symptoms than what the hubs has)...he didn't know what to call it...we have some symptoms of Swine Flu but not all and he didn't think it was full blown Swine flu so he said "rest, drink plenty of fluids and let me know if you aren't any better by mid week"....well, by mid week I better be feeling well again...LOL!!! I just decided to get up this morning and forget it -- I had to go to the store anyway....so I went!

                          Ok, that's it for me...hope everyone is doing well!!

                            Carole - I'm so glad you are feeling better!

                            Here, and feeling 50 today just worn out tired. Very busy week at work - huge project, but got so much done today, feeling better. Quiet house right now, deciding what to make for dinner - may try spaghetti squash and meatballs...that would be fun!

                                I'm so proud of myself. Made myself do it. Went to lindas site and looked up how to cook spaghetti squash - she does it in the microwave. Also suggests using a screwdriver to poke holes for steam. I have it cooling on the counter right now...waiting for my husband to walk into the kitchen and comment

                                Also made some meatballs and they are in the oven.

                                Can't wait!
