the color of the sticks only indicates you are in keotsis -- purple on the sticks normally means you are on the dehydrated side - so more water would be the thing you need to add. You say you "can't do more than that" -- what else do you drink during the day?

I'm just interested, what do you eat that you only get 9 -10 carbs per day? I've never understood what people eat on induction that they don't get near 20 carbs. I'm back on induction (I've been sick the past few days so I'm out of keotsis again). This is what I've eaten: Breakfast: 2 eggs, green pepper, green onion & cheddar cheese (made into an omelet) - that is 4 carbs right there. Lunch: 1 cup sauerkraut with 2 Nathan's hot dogs, 2 halves of deviled eggs and 1/2 avocado - that is 7 more. Dinner: chicken parmesan, 2 cups salad w/ranch dressing - that is 8 -- total of 20.

To answer your question, when you move to OWL if you've been eating 10 carbs daily then you would add an additional 5 carbs for a total of 15 carbs for the day. You need enough time to go through OWL slowly so you can add the foods back you are testing so you know what bothers you and what foods you can eat without problems. Many people think they should wait until they are just about through loosing then quickly go through the rungs.....many of those people end up going off plan and gain their weight back. Just remember, Atkins isn't a "diet" -- it's a lifestyle you follow over the rest of your life.

    Good luck
    Carole

Thank you Carole. I hope you are feeling better soon. Maybe I should elaborate a bit. I'm eating lots, I do my darndest to eat the 2 cups of salad, plus the 1 cup veges... I'm drinking 2 litres of water a day.... mostly every day I have eggs with some meat at breakfast; lunch is 1 cup of the salad, with a bit of cheese, the olives; supper is 1 cup salad, with the 1 cup veges... usually a bit of cheese later because I like to nibble and that satisfies it. I think I'm probably not counting correctly and that I am getting the right carb count. The mayo I use is 0.. as is the salad dressing... I've started to have a cup of tea at night with a bit of the cream... the box also says that's 0. Since I started ATkins I have been dinking water and nothing but water. lately I have a tiny glass of diet pop, probaby only about 2 oz... and that's only as a treat, maybe twice a week... I'll have to research and read some more to understand the counts... I have no idea what salad counts as... mine are usually just lettuce, cucs, a tiny bit of cheese, a bit of tomatoe... and my dressing, which is PC Caesar says 0 on the bottle... I feel absolutely fantastic... amazingly so. I think I'm doing it right... but input is always more than welcome.

Night all. Thanks again Carole... I'm learning so much from you, I appreciate you a lot.

        >>'m also a very deep dark purple, which is good too.>>

Purple isn't always "good". It can mean you're dehydrated. At your weight, you should be drinking MORE than the minimum of 64 ounces ... many find that 1/2 their current body weight in ounces works best. Too little water ... and your body keeps the water it finds ... and you don't lose.

You can also stop or slow losing because you're not eating enough food ... both in calories or carbs.

Your body might be telling you it's time to increase your carbs.

Also ... just because a nutrition label says "0", doesn't mean it's really 0 carbs. Mayonnaise, since it's made from eggs, does have carbs. As does your salad dressing I bet ...

The best thing to do is to read the list of ingredients and if anything in the list of ingredients has carbs, then the end product simply can't be zero!

Also ... you should start counting the net carbs in what you're eating ... as you move through OWL, that will be very useful as you increase your carbs and find what your CCLL is.

ok, gotcha girls. Thanks for the input. Today is a holday here, so when hubby goes to work, I'm going to spend the rest of the day with Dr. Atkins... ooohhhh how naughty is that. I've read the book, fully, and parts of it many times. Today I see you should spread the veges out during the day, so I'll do that more. And, I've gone to the carb counter to really get to the nitty gritty. What I discovered so far this morning is that I havn't been counting correctly... I missed a few things. Also, water. I've been doing the 2 litres a day (74 oz), and Atkinsgal, you are right... if I count as per my weight, I should be doing 2 1/2 litres. So, I'm doing the water challenge at 2 litres, which I will continue to the end of oct, then go to the 2 1/2 until I'm used to that. I'll input in my daily log as to the food and CORRECT counts for the day... I eat basically the same thing daily, but I will change that in time. Thanks girls, so appreciate the lesson.

Just to be clear, 2 litres is 67.72 ounces.

105 ounces is just over 3 litres.

oops, read my bottle wrong... it's a 2.2 litre at 74 oz.... my 1 litre is 32 oz... so I should be drinking both bottles a day... I'll fill them up in the morning... and make sure they are done by night. Boy, am I going to be sloshing around!!! See, me and numbers just do not get along! Tks.

Remember, you shouldn't reuse store bought plastic bottles ... once is ok, more than that, it's not a good idea.

Thanks for replying...I know it slower as we get older, actually I will be 61 in November (they say I don't look a day over 45). I lost 2lbs over the weekend, so I am happy about that. I went to the library & got the Atkins 2002 edition. I plan to read the whole book, it is very informative & interesting.

Where is O'Fallon? I live in Ocala, FL. It has been so hot here; in the 90's & I am sick of it.

I just had lunch with brocolli & ribs (without the sauce) it is delicious. Talk to you later. Sunnyone1

Hi all! Sorry I haven't been around much but I've been busy and it's only going to get worse.

Dh and I are in the process of buying a house to fix up and rent out and starting tomorrow, we will be clearing it out, cleaning and painting.

It's strange how things work out sometimes because we make an agreement to buy this house 42 years ago but the seller changed his mind at the last minute. Now he is dead and his widow is selling it to us. The main reason we want it is for the land because it borders our farm. Our daughter who lives out of state wants the house in four years when she retires from her government job and moves back home. We will rent it until then.

I'm doing well on Atkins and I expect I will be getting lots of extra exercise when the house is officially ours tomorrow morning.

This morning I had an omelette with cheese, onion and mushrooms, a cup of coffee, decaf, and a stalk of celery which is something I nibble on throughout the day. I haven't decided on lunch yet. I guess I will go see what we have. Have a nice day everyone!

Hi everyone, it's been almost a week since I last posted

Thanksgiving is over, things are fairly back to normal except for me. I had some abdominal pain Sunday night and all day Monday, so Tuesday I went up to the Emerg (my doctor's office had no appts available) and was diagnosed after bloodwork, urinalysis, and CT scan, with Diverticulitis. So now I'm at home (no work for now) puttering, drinking clear fluids like broth, consommé, water of course, green tea, and eating diet Jell-o. I'm on 2 antibiotics, and a pain med (which I take at night only). I read about all the food everyone is enjoying and I'm so jealous!! Once I'm able to eat again, I'm hoping to go back to Induction for at least a week. It shouldn't take too long to get back to OWL Rung 4. What does everyone else eat for fibre? I was adding Benefibre to my coffee every morning but ran out, and kept forgetting to buy more Guess I'd better keep up that habit.
Anyway, this gives me more time to read the book since I signed up for the challenge. Hopefully this clears up quickly so I can get back on the treadmill

Hope you are feeling better and back on plan soon Fancy! I have been in bed most of the week with a cold/flu/whatever you want to call it. It started with sniffles, then sneezing, fever, ears are raw feeling and itchy, throad is raw and swollen. Other than that I feel great (HA!)

I made cabbage soup a few weeks ago and froze 4 servings -- that's what I've been eating with I eat anything over the past couple days. I have pork steak unthawed for dinner tonight....hopefully I'll feel up to eating some it .... I need something to help get my strength back.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be feeling better than today - I've been up about 3 hours and I'm going to have to go lay back down. Because of laying so much this week my lower back is stiff so when I am up I try to stay up as long as possible so it doesn't hurt as much. I can't remember sleeping this much for years...I normally don't get this sick!

I'll be back when I feel better...hope everyone is doing ok.

Thanks for thinking of me Carole, I am feeling much better today altho' my system still doesn't like regular food. We had some leftover mashed potatoes in the fridge so I tried some of them yesterday. I also made some "legal" cauliflower soup, but my daughter cautioned me in case it was too gassy. I'll try a bit today, maybe a half cup. I'm also going to try taking the dog out with my bike. I don't have the stamina to walk, but riding my bike at his speed should be ok. I can always come back home if my body tells me to.

You know, I really hate being sick. It's such beautiful weather right now, although really chilly. I want to get outside. I will, I'll just wait till about one, when it will be a little warmer, this is definitely soup weather!

We have friends coming to stay over, Sat. afternoon. Anne is on Weight Watchers so I will just make meals the way I normally do, but have skim milk on hand for her. She'll have to use butter though, I'm not buying margarine, low-fat or otherwise for her. The visit should be nice, even tho' I won't be eating the same foods. (I'm dying for a piece of cheese!!! and some celery with cream cheese!!)

Well, guess I'd better carry on, sick or not, there's still work to do. Get well soon Carole,

Welcome to the thread d33na! You'll find lots of support and great ideas for 50's and over, male or female And I see you're doing great! Isn't this way of eating wonderful? I'll be glad when I'm totally back on it.

Tonight I'm trying a mild white fish baked, some butternut squash, and a small baked potato, which isn't on OWL Rung 4 but will be good for my digestive system for now. I see the doctor on Wednesday and will ask him when I can start eating salads and stronger vegies again (like broccoli and green beans). I actually had eggs whipped with some broth cooked like an omelet this morning, lordy they were good!

There goes my beeper, supper's ready, have a great evening everyone
