Thanks, blueberrylady, I saw him, too. However I am just getting so used to this that I don't want to wander off at this point. Maybe when I reach OWL.
We have had some bright spring weather, too, and I agree that it really helps.
I have another week of induction and so far so good. At home it is not too hard, I just add a starch for my DH. For eating out I go online and pick what I can eat before I get to the restaurant.
Anybody have any other hints? The recipes here have been a great help to me.

Hi Ladies, am sure glad winter is thawing out! Blueberrylady, I haven't heard of him, but I too bought a book on low carb "Life without Bread, How a Low-Carbohydrate diet can Save Your Life", by Christian B Allan, PHD and Wolfgang Lutz, MD. It's really good but sometimes complicated reading because they go into chemical structuring, etc., but I bought it so I could see if this would help my husbands high blood pressure and he's also reading it. It confirms a way of life for health, rather than just a diet, which is what I wanted my husband to understand. Hello Wendy and Beachbaby! Welcome! As far apart as we all are, this website makes it feel like we're all right in the same neighborhood!
Just made lunch for DH and he wanted Emeril's Favorite Pastrami sandwhich! So I made him one, and for me, I just had mine in a bowl (pastrami with grilled onions) without the big roll! Yummy! But I actually used left over corned beef (from St. Paddy's day) sliced real thin. Oh well, back to Saturday chores, have a great day!

Hello there - we don't have to admit how much over 50 we are, right? I succeeded in losing 12 lbs in the first 2 weeks but got a bit off track with St. Patrick's Day. I am back on track now and am starting OWL but need to read up on that. I went to the MD last week and they told me I should be on a Diabetic Diet vs this - but I am still restricing carbs. I hears about this Metabolic Profile plan as well and I wondered if any of you have checked into that.

          Hey Kathygirl and Moocow,
St. Patricks Day can be a real glitch, can't it? I made it as usual but did not eat the potatos and carrots, just the beef and cabbage, measured before cooking since it cooks up so much. Cabbage used to be my least favorite part but now I like it better, no choice I guess.
Your reuben in a bowl sounds great. I will have to try that, too.
          Happy Sunday to you all,

Hi everyone! I'm glad to see some new faces.

I love the Corned Beef and Cabbage on St. Patties Day. It is soooo good. Thank goodness it's allowed on Atkins!

I wasn't thinking about trying Dr. Amen's diet, it's just that I liked some of his ideas about how we have to change our thinking before we can effectively change our weight. It makes sense that our ANTS, as he calls our automatic negative thoughts, are keeping us from seeing ourselves as thin so we never really accomplish getting thin. I have tried this positive thinking thing before but find it's hard to make myself believe that I'm thin when the mirror so drastically disagrees with me.

Hi everyone! I live in Ontario, Canada and have just joined up today. I will be starting the program officially tomorrow - and am hoping i see great results as this is something I have never tried. Tried everything else though, and have just finished yet another stint with Weight Watchers. This weight thing has been a struggle for me for over 18 years now... and quite frankly I am getting tired of fighting with it. All consuming, all the time. Oh well, tomorrow is yet another day!

                  Welcome Raina and Sabi,
Glad to meet some other beginners. I am just finishing two week induction so will be weighing and measuring tomorrow. I think this makes us stairsteps. Much luck to you both,

Wecome Raina , I hope you find this WOE (way of eating) enjoyable! I've been everything from vegetarian to totalarian...(as in eat everything, haha) but Atkins has always whittled away the inches and pounds, and then the best part is, that you can maintain your weight loss, if you apply the rules. There are so much healthy benefits too, in the low carb way of eating, that it outweighs (no pun intended) the competition..or any other "diet". You will eat healthy food, and lose weight. It's the best of both worlds. It is not a fad diet anymore...sceintific evidence keeps popping up in it's support. The books are great to read, and to have as back up at all times. Welcome and good luck! Have fun losing weight and being healthy!

Yup, today is day one! I am trying to keep busy so I don't think of food. My stomach is growling as I write this. Have done alot of reading and find the information on Atkins very insightful. I really think this will work for me... I just have to get used to it.

                          If you're hungry, eat.

                          That's the beauty of Atkins.

I really have to reprogram myself I guess. Years of counting calories and starving... but how's that working for me? It's not, that why I am trying Atkins.

                              Raina,

Read the book, follow the plan well, think of it as a way of eating for life, not a quick fix diet, and you will find there is no more fighting. After you get accustomed to the plan, the food choices, your water, exercise, tracking your net carbs (try fitday.com)---it will become so easy and natural, you will forget how you ate in the past and you will find yourself very happy with the results.

Yesterday I finished the 14 day induction and have to say this forum has been a huge help with all the questions that come along. I lost 10 pounds, which according to DANDR 2002, puts me in the middle of metabolic resistance.
Last night I made the wonderful cauliflower recipe from these boards with all the items in a stuffed baked potato, but I used only half the cheese called for, which seemed a better amount to me. It was out of this world and my DH loved it, too. I divided it into my size portions, ate one then and packed up the others individually.
I think my taste is really changing, too, because a neighbor brought over a great plate of baked treats last night which DH really enjoyed. However when I got up this morning, those things were not even tempting to me. I just wanted my usual protein with my tea.
Now I am going to be tiptoeing into OWL very carefully. But since I have over 50 pounds to lose still I wonder if I should stick to induction a while longer. Any advice out there?
                                Sorry this is so long,
